What pump and bracket did you use for the dry sump setup? Thanks
Hey! I was curious if I could contact you for a couple of questions about my ramrod on my A833. If you happen to have an Instagram or contact me, please let me know if you can/willing to! Thank you!
Hello, is there a way to learn about driveshaft rebuild
Even had the AC on in the Freightliner this afternoon.
@17:17-27 how do I pull off the pressed on steel gear without ruining it, Thanks for info if sharing
Hey Shawn, I’ve never broke down and bought a special tools for the direct and forward clutch. Get the pistons in. I worked at the dealership for 40 years. I should’ve picked one up along the way, but I didn’t the way I’ve been doing it I put a little lube on the seal and wrap, black tape and put a cone in the center. Then I sticking the freezer for a couple hours. They just drop in, warm up no problems. What is your thoughts on this?
@@edhunt3682 There isn’t a wrong way if it works.
Great Video, funny, informative ,engaging Needed a good one today! you are becoming the shop Schwa me!!
Also, thank you for these videos.
I use .003 shim stock sheet completly around piston. Place shim stock sheet in bore of drum first, then slide in piston.
Thank you sir
Your voice cought my ear years ago, haven't missed a video.....
It's looking good , surely going to be a screamer , and most of the stuff I have is used as far as engine parts , the heads I picked up for my small block Chevy back in 2020 are world products sportsman 2's and they are a 1994 casting but I did buy new aro screw in studs and new roller rockers and a new stud girdle, still have parts to get but other things have been a priority the last few years and haven't been able to finish it yet
Can I ship you my th400 to be upgraded?
Shawn how do you tell the year model if a LS engine with not knowing the VIN of the car it came out of. There is some numbers stamped into the left rear head (which I heard was part of the org VIN) but I don't know for sure. The engine is an all aluminum 6.2l LS3. I do know it is a gen 4 and 58t reluctor wheel buts that all. Id like to know the year model if possible.
hi , just disregard other peoples criticism , your above them .
Hey Shawn, how are you going to lift that engine with THAT manifold on? Just curious. Also- would the shorter version be better for that application? (Shorter runners) or it probably doesn’t matter as much since you’re boosting?
When you do the 2 checkballs one in center one in bathtub. Is that on any of them ? In video you were talking about dual feed modification which mine doesnt have . Wanted to make sure it is two check balls regardless . Thank you
Do you have linkage or know someone that sells them.
I scored a pair of ON3 80mm turbos BOGO essentially!! It was a sweet fb deal that nobody was interested in for some reason!!🤔🤔
I’m pretty sure “crap” is not considered to be a swear word, even to the littler humans!! 😂😂
That is going to be a beast. Are you going to show the install, all the way to the track?
@@davidreed6070 Yes
@mountainsgarage everyone will be interested in that.
hi from Nova Scotia.i love the thrill of the hunt too, never gets old.we've been to New England Dragway a 100 times but not for a swap meet, might just have to pencil that in?love your video's.take care.
I thought that w/ a manual v.b. when you go thru the traps you leave it in 3rd. Did I inderstand this wrong?
@@larrythompson7802 That is correct.
Thank you. Besides your current videos, I go back and watch the older videos like this.
@ Great, thanks for watching!
You're a very interesting person. You know your stuff. I would love to see some wrench turning in your videos. You explain things so my simple mind can understand and I believe wrench turning would make your channel vastly grow. I love the engineering of the auto tranny and I try to learn as much as I can. Very fascinating stuff. Some say the auto Trans is one of engineering^s greatest feats. I agree
@mountainsgarage so in this video you actually welded in the smaller piece of the adapter you cut didn’t you? Will that work in replace of finding the larger spacer you had on the table? Also, do you know how far forward a th400 converter normally pushes a flexplate in if spaced correctly? For say 800hp… thanks!
Great finds! Can't believe or accept the stupid prices on new parts. Have a great week.
I always like going to the swap meets, I never seem to have much money when I go but always can find some deals and some not so much of a deal . Lol
Hi Shawn how is the 56 Chevy wagon any updates coming my favorite car .
@@1963bondo It is in storage, but in my mind I work on it everyday!
Nice engine behind you!
Shawn, the Thrill of the bargain never goes away 👍
Haven’t pulled the pan or anything yet, but I have a 2wd th400. Car drove fine one day, started it up the next to move it around my driveway and it wouldn’t move at all. Fluid level was good, could it be possible the filter somehow came off? It’s a stock th400 with a fairly stock 454
@@hambuga69 Seems like something simple might have happened?
I like your channel a lot. Can you knock out more videos for us?
@@williamjones1059 Thanks! I am working on it!
Good Day, Do you have your friend John from Missouri contact info.
Has anyone had real good luck with any of these aftermarket efi. Systems? It seems like every video ive watched where one of these systems was installed it was a nightmare start to finish and just didn't perform as it should no amount of tuning and adjusting made it work properly so maybe im just not catching the right person so im asking here..
@@glennmanchester5696 No question the outcome has a lot to do with the quality of the install. Then to deal with a large window of adjustability and the knowledge required to work through it.
Is John on TH-cam?
Who's John?? Lol
@@glennmanchester5696what you have?
Megasquirt is an American made product and far superior to anything Holley makes. It's nice being to tune from your phone, data log and have a dash all built into one.
So it really works and your happy with it ? Was it right out of the box on point or was It a pain In the ass till you got it dialed in ?? Also If the battery dies for example does it loose all the info it supposedly learns as you drive ? And have to learn all over again??
@glennmanchester5696 I had that issue with Holley a few times. Had a Terminator x dialed. Car sat for three days. Cranked it, battery dropped below 8 volts, wiped the ECU. Had to re upload the tune. My Megasquirt had never done that to me. Over 30k.miles between my 3 vehicles running it. Blown alcohol monster truck runs on ms3 gold lite. Love having blue tooth gauges on my steering wheel.
Every friend of mine that got the efi and one buddy with a cammed 383 that literally got every single option including the terminator dual black distributor and intake we could NOT get it to run right after MONTHS of tuning it many o2 sensors or get it to handle WOT AND run good. He gave up and did a hp950 and is so happy now. The only one I saw work good was a 200hp 350 stock engine.
For all the bullshit is it worth using even on a stock motor ?? What's the real difference between it and a carb not any performance im sure just cold starts and not having to tune the carb if say I drove from here to Denver? ?? That's the only real difference right it seems as though for the money it's not the do all end all solution to carbs or the having to tune them I think ???what's your take on it ?
@glennmanchester5696 if i lived in the mountains and a climate that swings a lot I could see efi as a good option over a carb. But I live in Texas. It's flat weather is hot pretty much 9 out of 12 months and those 3 aren't a big enough swing usually to make me re jet the car I don't even have a choke.
Even harder when Holley continues to raise their prices and move more manufacturing away from us Americans
Idk any part of Holley EFI that is made here. Everyone really needs to blame Bill Clinton. NAFTA killed USA manufacturering, but people still vote, blue! LOL
@@funfun8095yet they can charge $1,000 plus for slave labor and not pass the savings on to us right?
@timweb1510 Yep, I agree. Will just make people go to other companies. But....having 8 year olds make stuff in China and India, is ok in their culture. I myself don't agree with it, at all. It's just what it is. We have NAFTA and Clinton to thank for most of this issue.

Mountain ! Thats not true about the holes, this is, those trays were made for 302s, 350s, etc which are ..200 thousandths smaller, you forgot the 400 has .200 thou. Bigger main bores therefore, the bolts are set farther apart ! Thats why it did not fit . Dont feel bad, alot of people dont know the many differances the 400 has.Hope this helps.
Nice Z.28 or Corvette windage tray !
To Nicholas, No , its a 400 block with a 350 stroke crank, the telltale sign is the.509 cast in the side of the block and also on the bell housing part of the block, the only numbers i know for the 400 are 509, 511 and 817, these are the last 3 digits of the casting numbers. If you use the factory crank, you will need spacer bearings, because the 400 saddle in the block, is .200 thousands bigger. Hope this helps .
I've wanted to put up a beam and trolley. Can't figure out where to place it. I know when it goes up I'll lean back and say " don't know how I lived without this". tHanks for the video
That is a useful tip about the door size in the future. I have four 10' doors...Only one works...the others have busted springs or are made out of old battleship parts. I should swap in a smaller door but I worry about the look from the street. ( I'm in town )
My neighbor's cat used to slip into my garage and I didn't know it was there and after I shut everything up and went in the house later I would hear something get knocked over or something and I would open the door and look in and the cat would meow at me and I'd open the garage door and he would leave , and I would find that cat either sleeping on my back porch or occasionally on my front porch , it seemed like he wanted our cat . Lol or he just liked us better 😂
s far as my bench tops being storage areas I am the worst! I hate myself for it but its a habit! When I was at a large fleet (world wide courier co) we actually would design cabinets etc. with no vertical surfaces! Everything was sloped! We had a really cool tool box on wheels with a sloped covering that we used specifically for PMI When you open it there were all the tools you need ed for doing PMs ( at 150hrs x60 units in my branch we did a lot) We also spaced the slant fornt tool box s (like The Montezuma brand) Its a battle to keep the shop clean and functional but its fun to look for ideas I have made a few specialty work box that look like the NHRA top fuel pit boxes If you work on the same task it makes sense Lets do more in the future , Good work Thought provoking as usual!
Great info
Flat surfaces in a workshop are dangerous... They should sell a dome product or something that you put on all flat surfaces... ....actually, I would just start using the floor at that point. Scratch that idea. tHanks for the video!
I stumbled into some rules I gave myself. I won't allow tools and materials to be stored together. Then I took it another step, and everything has to have a place. I really enjoy cleaning but that doesn't make it any easier. I often think there is more setting up and cleaning than there is in the actual job I'm trying to do. But clean..is better for the camera.
Clean up?.....Clean ups are for sissies. ( Hold on...I need to put a band aid on a paper cut .....then we can go back to talking about tools and cars )
