Ok silly question: is it absolutely necessary to make the fense alternating every over tile ? Won't it simply work with a 1 wide corridor full of traps ?
Not a silly question, but if you do a 1-wide there is a higher chance your colonists will step on the trap and injure themselves. The 2-wide with fence/sandbag allows your colonists to walk around the traps without triggering them.

The tree thing is bonkers! I do that for ambrosia and it never occurred to do it for trees. I usually grow some on my base, but you have to research that. This is a great option for pre-research or on cold biomes where you can get so busy and forget to harvest trees before they die to the cold.

Pro tip if the soil isn't fertile potatoes are best
Corn is mathematically far better than potatoes in 100% fertility or greater as long as you can support the growing time. Potatoes are primarily for low fertility soil.

You would want to take a Careful Shooter over a Trigger-happy one for defensive purposes, unless you're planning to have a group of Trigger-happies behind cover demolishing someone elses' cover while attacking, since it's the only thing they're better than Careful Shooters at.
In theory, you could plant trees (25% cover) for attacking enemy pawns to take cover at while assaulting your positions only to have your defending Trigger-happy pawns behind solid cover (walls, 50% cover) hose down and demolishing the inferior trees with faster automatic bursts to catch the attackers off guard and have them picked off using Careful Shooter pawns. You could even damage the trees yourself so that they're destroyed by your fire faster and thus enemy pawns that take cover behind them are left without any cover faster, meaning you have more chances to shoot them while they're moving in the open. Make sure to layer the fake cover trees as well so that enemy pawns don't run to something solid like a wall and don't storm your positions head-on prematurely.
Trigger-Happy is generally considered stronger because you have ways to increase accuracy the accuracy of a Trigger Happy but you don't have a way to decrease aiming time with Careful Shooter pawn. Trigger Happy is pretty much better all around.

How do you stop your colonists stepping on traps?
They won't step on the traps if you have the tunnel that is 2-wide like this with the traps on one side and either fences or sandbags that can allow your colonists to walk around them.

I have one extremely violent pawn with shooting and melee 17, a pawn that is an almost flawless worker, but is made out of paper, and another deathless fella.

Use doors not fences to avoid accidentally setting off your own traps
Fences, barricades and sandbags will all keep your pawns from walking over the trap.

This works, but making the other areas allows you to control your pawns and keep them from wandering across the map like dummies for stuff you don't want them doing.

@@TheWorldOfKilladrix Cheating is cheating. This is like arguing "I only used the duplication glitch to get infinite money, if you didnt want you to do it, it wouldn't be in the game." And yes, exploiting the AI is a form of cheating. Thats why MMOs ban people for exploiting all the time. Its also a crutch that makes your shit at the game and cry that you HAVE to exploit the AI or theres no way to survive late game raids. Dont cheese, get good. and you wont have to relay on ugly ass trap mazes and kill boxes to play the game.

I'm going to be honest, it's a little weird that you're cruising the internet gatekeeping how people play a single player game and telling them they're having fun wrong, but you do you, my friend 👍
Planning is usually a great idea, but there are times when it will do more harm than good. When building a killbox, you can never predict that there will be enemies who don't care about the open path and instead charge straight at your walls. That's why I switched to bunkers with embrasures and turrets. It's the only way to fend off the zombie hordes that appeared in the new "Anomalies" DLC. In my last five games, I set Randy to 500% difficulty and survived with different starting setups. Each time, I faced waves of these undead attacking my base. The turrets were destroyed almost instantly unless they were inside bunkers. I place six or seven turrets per bunker at a time. These undead simply ignore killboxes and smash through the walls. That's how I lost three colonies-two tribal ones and one "crash-landing" start. Then I remembered the words of the Lieutenant Colonel who taught us the theory of engineering structures, and I started to properly position the bunkers. Planning often had to be done right in the middle of construction, since a large part of the structures would frequently get destroyed, and there often weren’t enough materials to rebuild in time. So I had to make do and rebuild what I had.
Yeah, I mean this video was made for new players struggling to survive their first year, not experienced 500% threat players with embrasure mods 😂
