    if you're not interested in music, sample packs, but you think my videos are worth buying me a coffee, I'd love to have it :) www.buymeacoff...
    if you have a passion for sample-based beatmaking, plus a decent smartphone or a tablet, radiooooo and koala sampler are two apps that you should get A$AP.
    radiooooo.com is basically a musical time machine that allows you to pick a decade and country, and voilà! you get a pretty endless stream of songs from that time and place.
    koala sampler is basically all you ever wanted from and sp404, but in form of a mobile app that you can use wherever you go.
    koala has an "import video" function that allows you to upload your screen grabs as audio, and that is just the coolest thing ever. you can sample EVERYTHING at ALL TIMES.
    so in this video, I grab a few gems from radiooooo.com and make a (pretty awful) beat with them on koala sampler.

    I think it's fascinating to see how you and any other beat makers (other than myself) do their beats from the ground up , not boring , at all;
    There are surprisingly not many tutes out there that show how producers , beat makers, loop makers and all recording artists that SHOW every little detail, it's really helpful (especially for a brand new individual tryna learn) to see all methods and techniques and even tho I'm not "brand" new , per se, I still learn a lot all the time ,
    Nice video Umami, subbed & liked man

      hey, this means a lot to me. thank you for the kind comment! there aren't many tuts cos most people might wanna just stream the whole process live or put it behind a paywall, editing all that footage ain't no joke ahaha but there are a few who do!
      I'm not in the most ideal situation in terms of studio rn (as you can see from most of my videos). hopefully I'll move to our new house in 2023 and I'll be able to do more in depth stuff!

      aw man. big question. it's mostly a question of feeling it, I've been doing it for almost 20 years now. in terms of arrangement of the full song, that's a simpler question: I like to create the "fullest" pattern I possibly can and then it's a game of subtraction from there, like you strip down for the intro and you leave it full for the chorus. hope that makes sense!

    Bro can anyone tell me how the keyboard works on koala to playv samples? You can select the scale but not the key? Makes it useless lol idk

    • @BIGUMAMI
      @BIGUMAMI  ปีที่แล้ว

      the reason why it won't let you select the key is because, well, Koala doesn't now the note of your sample. if the sample you load is an E, and Koala defaulted the "keyboard" to C, it would be inaccurate to call the "C" note a "C". does it make sense?
      anyway, say that your note actually IS a C, if you want an E minor scale, just go in the sample page and transpose your sample +4 and you've got it!

    • @allieboy181
      @allieboy181 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BIGUMAMI wow the first person to actually tell me how it works! But the only thing I do not understand is the last part. So if my bass note is actually a "C" and I want to play in the E minor scale, and I tune the "C" to an "E" isn't that the same as putting the E on a C? And it wouldn't actually be a C?

    • @BIGUMAMI
      @BIGUMAMI  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@allieboy181 mmmm... I don't fully understand what you're saying.
      it all depends on the sample you load into the pad. for example, if you have a sample of a bass playing a C note, then all the scales that will show up in the keyboard will be in the key of C. for example, major scale would be CDEFGAB.
      if you wanna play that same sample in the E Major scale, you would go to the sample page, ctap on the pad where you loaded the sample, and edit the pitch to go +4 semitones.
      when you tap on the "keyboard" in the perform page, and select Major Scale, now your scale will be E F# G# A B C# D#.
      this ALL depends on the initial note of the sample that YOU decided to load. that's why koala doesn't give you an indication of what "note" you're playing. it can't possibly know, because it doesn't know the original pitch of your sample!
      hope that makes it a bit clearer!

    • @allieboy181
      @allieboy181 ปีที่แล้ว

    @16:51 Not out of tune! Perfectly in tune but you're just playing the wrong notes. You played a few notes of the scale, but never found the root. Plus, if you only record/resample one note with the delay fx, only the timing of the original note's delay will be in time. Resample the whole riff. Would also recommend cutting that air from the start of those hats. Yeah, Swing only works on every other beat beyond straight 8s. I know people like to have non accurate hat cuts so they drag but after decades of doing this since the 80s I'd recommended chopping perfectly to the start of the waveform and then dragging all the MIDI to the right slightly. In the piano roll... which you don't have!

    • @BIGUMAMI
      @BIGUMAMI  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, you're correct about the delay - it's on purpose. I like having weird timing variations when pitching samples down and up - it creates weird swings and grooves.
      and also yes, it is much easier to add swing on 8ths directly from the piano roll, which is something I do in every DAW I use, but in this particular case I forgot to buy the Samurai extension on Koala lol... so yeah no piano roll!
