  • Inkscape is professional, free, open source Vector Graphics software.
    Notes from this tutorial:
⦁ To have objects together, select one of the objects first, then hold down the shift key on your keyboard and select another object.
⦁ You can have as many objects selected as you want using the same procedure. You can then move them, change their colors, size, etc. at once.
⦁ If you click on the Esc key or on any part of the page the objects will be deselected
⦁ To keep the selected objects together, click Object in the menu bar and choose group. The objects will remain together even if you click on an empty space on the page.
⦁ You can also group objects by holding the Ctrl + G in your keyboard.
⦁ To ungroup the objects, select ungroup in the menu bar.
⦁ You can duplicate an object or a group by selecting it and holding Ctrl + D in your keyboard.
Special thanks to @rvalle13 for providing these notes!
You can download it today, on Windows/Linux/Mac at:

Thank you so much for these tutorials! They are awesome. For those of us with Macs, instead of Ctrl , use Command. (Command+C instead of Ctrl+C to copy, for example) Instead of alt key, use option key (for example, to select an item that is beneath another item)

Thank you! I was already in a bit of shock to see that Alt + drag wouldn't work, and that "Ctrl + D" was supposed to be used instead, and then I thought I was losing my mind when that wouldn't work either.

For grouping, it's not the "ESC" that re-groups them, you have to double-click outside to get out of single-entity-edit mode and go back to them as being a group.

I'm using 0.92.2 on a MacBook and clicking Esc doesn't exit group editing to get the group selection back. However, Ctrl+Backspace(Delete on Mac) or clicking an object outside the group does. It might be because Inkscape is running inside of XQuartz but I'm not sure. While researching this I also learned that Ctrl+Enter is an alternate to double clicking to enter the group.

I love your tutorials and am working on my computer as I watch them to see if I can do what you are teaching. In lesson 4, where you grouped the snowman and then show how to tab to see the shapes drawn and their order, my Inkscape is not showing all the shapes on my screen. I have a square and oval and it will tab thru them but it dies not include the snowman. This is the same as when I hid the oval under the snowman and tabbed to the oval with alt, I was not able to bring the oval to the top of the grouped snowman. There is something going on with the grouped snowman that is preventing these other functions working. Can you help explain what it might be?

    A couple questions...
    1) when you are scaling the object bigger and smaller is it changing the dimensions that it is, or just the viewable size?
2)when you are scaling things up and down in size is there s setting available that keeps the stroke width the same instead of having it scale with the object?

  • @rwh777
    @rwh777 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I love these tutorials. Just wondering. You've mentioned that Inkscape remembers the properties of the object you last drew which is really useful in most cases. But, is there a way to switch to a default rendering, rather than having to undo all the characteristics you previously used? E.g color, opacity, stroke width and so on?
