  • Inkscape is professional, free, open source Vector Graphics software.
    Notes from this tutorial:
    To change the thickness of a stroke, click on Object in the menu bar and select fill a stroke to bring the fill and stroke options. You can also right-click the object and select the option there.
    The Fill and Stroke Options have three tabs:
    The Fill Tab allows us to change the color of the object body using the RGB, HSL, CMYK, Wheel, or CMS options.
    In the Fill tab, next to the X there are also available options to apply linear, radial, and mesh gradient, as well as pattern and swatch.
    When the Pattern option is selected you can choose from many Pattern fills, or apply Blur, and Opacity effects
    The Stroke Paint Tab allows us to change the color of the Stroke with the same Flat color options (RGB, Wheel..).
    Use the Stroke Style to change the Width and other characteristics of the stroke.
    Special thanks to @rvalle13 for providing these notes!
    You can download it today, on Windows/Linux/Mac at:

    Thank you so much for the videos. I'm a retired engineer who built a laser engraver. I have been struggling to learn Inkscape and Photoshop to create images for my laser. They seemed so counter-intuitive to me after many years of using CAD softwares. The only thing more frustrating than trying to use the software was trying to follow TH-cam videos with someone talking 300 mph and making no sense. You are extremely clear, concise, and logical. Perfect videos. Again, THANK YOU!

P.S. you are so right about how versatile the shapes are, there is almost no need for any freehand stuff. I made great little stick figure people out of pinched faded grey-filled beige-lined circles! I am making a plan for a tank and I am using a lot of objects to create it. After duplicating a series of rectangles I noticed that some of the strokes were quite thin. Using this tutorial I was able to select the various objects and thicken or thin the stroke as needed. I used the box to type in the size of the stroke, hit enter and it was the size I wanted. I have also used the guides from the Guides tutorial to correct all of the angles on the drawing I thought were correct. Thanks for sharing all of these tutorials.

    This series has "explain like I'm 5" energy and I'm living for it. I was trying to use Krita for vector art and I'm not familiar with either the program or the style, and I kept getting frustrated with the huge number of tools and settings that I don't need or know how to use. The fact that you can just go to the top in Inkscape and change the size by millimeters leads me to believe this program and I are going to get along.

    • @NoiseDay
      @NoiseDay 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fact that you can type in the hex code for colors- I might actually cry.
      If anybody deals with color a lot and wants a universal eyedrop tool you can use across multiple software, Instant Eyedropper is a free program I've been using for years where you click the icon and then click onto whatever color you want with pixel-perfect precision and it copies the hex code. So before even finishing this comment, I'll use it to grab the "reply" button color: #065FD4 Just two clicks and a ctrl+v and it's there. In Paint, I'd have to paste the code into google and copy the RGB values from there into the color editing tool to get the colors I wanted. With Inkscape, I can just paste the code directly in the RGB color editor.

    This is the best and most clear tutorial. I hope you have done a lot of others. I notice that it's often hard to select objects, to move them to make the retangles smaller, and almost impossible to skew the square, or to select colors. Selecting the strokes just can't be done after doing it a time or two. It takes many many frustrating tries to do simple movements like trying to manually make a square smaller by moving the corner. Is that just the way it is, always hard to grab or change a shape, or is there some trick to it? Is it that it I'm just new at it, or is it generally not precise and requires a whole lot of patience?

    Talking about colors. If i wanted to upload a design to a t shirt sight , should I do it in cmyk? Or would RGB do fine . i would want the colors on my screen to match a printed t shirt. Thanks in advance.

  • @judkiewiczj
    @judkiewiczj 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    RGB (red, green, blue) are colors to print on black paper or monitor screen. Full saturation of those will create white screen.
    CMYK (cyan magenta yellow black) are colors used to print on white paper.
    Cyan magenta and yellow in full saturation will give black color on white paper, but this is a lot of ink waste, so to avoid it black color is use instead.

    How do you set an object back to its default everything? For example, after playing with all the options you talked about here, now every new object I create has all those new properties. I want to reset an object back to its default value without "undoing" all the properties one by one. Is this possible?

We went over how it will bring back whatever settings you used last but is there a quick way to return it to the default setting? If I want to draw a green pacman without a line and then a red square with a large line and deformed in all directions and a purple star that has a pattern in it I don't want to have to undo all of those settings to just draw a simple circle, rectangle and star. You may have showed this but if you did I'm sorry I missed it.

    Thanks for taking the time to do this. I'm trying to draw a Pressure Gauge dial with fine lines and text in a round border. However, when I create the initial circle for the border, I can set the radius and the stroke thickness, but when I set the fill to White or None, I get a line from the centre to the RH side. The line is at the Stroke radius. I don't want that, how can I get rid of it?

    Thanks! Hey how can I print white?? When I use white is takes it as background (transparent) and at the printer it does not print anything (void).

    I still have a problem: when I fill something, and my stroke and fill are both the same colour, there is still some white left between the outline and the fill. WhAt CaN i Do?

    How about drawing lines and circles, can it do these things in vector style? Sort of really really basic but helpful.
