As a beginner, I can't thank you enough for your info. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to make the Stroke larger and change the color! Such a stupid thing and nothing was intuitive about it. Can't tell you how many tutorials I watched and no one commented on it! Thanks again, I'm subbing!

It took me 15 minutes to find the option to show those bezier handles. For anyone else wondering: press F2 to enter the Edit paths by nodes menu, there is an option to show those handles on the task bar at the far right.
Great series of videos btw. :)

Oh my I am so impressed. Once again your tutorials are fantastic. Working at a good pace, I can follow each step you take to achieve the lesson end. I have been digitizing for machine embroidery for several years using the Embrilliance Program. It has the Bezier Tool, but I have never been able to figure out how to use this tool. Now after watching this tutorial, I will never go back to using the draw with points function - but will use the Bezier Tool. I am so very grateful if for nothing else (which is not at all true) but for the knowledge you have given me in this respect. I have worked through each of your lessons and will continue with you right to the end. Nice short videos, easy to understand and take in and work with. Many, many thanks once again.😊

Hey very good videos, but if you want to move the the bezier handles independently, like when you want to make a 90-degree angle, select the handles and press Shift-C to move them independent of one another. Shift-S brings them back to joined/smooth handles, and lastly Shift-Y if you want the handles to be equidistant from each other when you move them. I used these commands all the time in Illustrator. Thanks for the great work!

It's worth the time to explain a bit more about the handles: Why are they always 180 degrees to each other, and why it's mostly beneficial to have them at the same length, too. It has to do with continuity. The first condition will result in first-order continuity, the second one will be a second-order continuity

Great Tutorials. I'm creating a logo for my window cleaning startup, and want to somehow join bezier lines (that complete an enclosed space) so that I can use it as the boundaries of a separate fill color. Basically, I have mimicked the look of a curved squeegee stroke on a window. There are four separate bezier lines--two straight and two curved. I've tried to do a union (covered in another of your tutorials), I've tried to group them, and a few things I don't remember. So far, nothing has allowed me to use a fill color. The result is similar to what you showed here at timestamp 6:37. Do you cover this in another lesson?

Thanks for the tutorial. I am having a problem with my bezier tool. When I try to draw just a line and hit enter or double click to stop the line draw, it automatically tries to turn my lines into a filled shape. Which I don't want. I can't seem to draw any lines, curved or otherwise. Any help would be appreciated.

    1) After you have created handles, how do you get rid of them? You can move one handle at a time back to it's point of origin, but is there something faster? (like the delete key)
    2) Some handles are connected to each other and some are not. Is there any way to connect them (I know you can hold shift, but more like a connect them for good thing)
    3) can you scale them both at the same rate. So extend them out to a certain point, but both at the same time so that they move the same distance and you don't have to eyeball it

Thank you TJ for these wonderful videos!!! They are so helpful to a beginner like myself!!! I have been playing around today trying to make a nautical compass rose. I used the star tool to make a 4 point star then used the Bezier tool to draw the straight lines through the points and middle of the star. I am having trouble filling in one side of each point black and the other side white though. Should I have made the star a different way in order to use the paint bucket to fill in each side? I hope you can help, thank you again!!!!

    • @TJFREE
      @TJFREE  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks Desiree. Sometimes its better to draw several individual objects (triangles?) using the bezier tool and them place them over or under the existing star. This way they can be colored separately without affecting the stars color.

Thanks so much for the video! My question though is how can I break the curved path that gets auto generated after I just drew a curve?
So this is what I'm doing Drawing 3 nodes with a problem between 2nd and 3rd node:
    1. Bezier tool selected
    2. Click on page to draw a node (Node 1)
    3. Click another point (Node 2) and drag to draw a curved line connected the first two nodes.
    4. [PROBLEM AREA] I want the THIRD node to have a straight path from the second node.
Inkscape automatically makes the line between 2nd and 3rd nodes curvy, I don't want the line between 2nd and 3rd node to be curvy, I want it to be straight. I understand I can just press ENTER and then continue where I left off by drawing a straight line, but I want it to be a seamless, continuous path. Essentially, I want an abrupt break and to revert back to a straight line path instead of a continuation of a curve.
    Thank you!

Thank you very much for your illustrative videos. I've drawn a closed Bezier curve and I wanted to fill it with colour. But after having drawn it, I've noticed that I've done it using the shape "Ellipse". So when I change the colour of the filling, it is the colour of the inner part of the ellipse what is changed. When we use Bezier tool and close the loop (any shape) some black really big structure comes up and inkscape starts to hang. Am I doing something wrong?

TJ great video but how do I get a gradient of colors at the bottom of the screen? Mine is limited and I can change it or slide the scale.
    what's the trick?

Good question. There is a little triangle to the right of the bar, left click it to bring up more color palette options. The one I am using is called 'Inkscape Default'.
