    I'm not sure if this is universal but at least in Finland it is nowadays instructed to not solder coat mains wires attached to screw terminals. The reasoning is because solder can easily crack, making the connection loose. Instead a better practise is to crimp the wire ends or just twist the stranded wires together.

    • @robojax
      @robojax  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. For safety reasons it should be implemented. Different countries have different code for this practice and safety should be the top priority/

    I bought a SSR 40 A A and sent it back. I used it to control a 115vac load and the relay was allowing 51 vac through and the input was off. Same brand. I suggest if you bought any of these that you check voltages when it is supposed to be off. Apparently it was working with input on and happened to check load voltage off and found out then it was allowing voltage through which definitely I did not want!

    nice video, however I have a challenge, I am using SSR-40 DA to control air compressor., source DC switching is done by controller board DLC32 (Doesnt matter). The relay switches on as I can see the read light turn on however the load remains off, until I unplug the AC supply and turn it on again. It then switches on successfuly. Also once the source DC is switches off AC successfully switches off. I was wondering what could cause this since these relays have in built snubber circuits

      I dont think it is gonna work, AC has already 50Hz of frequency, which means the signal up and down like crazy in 1 second, and now you add PWM in it. Imagine how nightmare the wave form would look like

      you will need 3 Triac and complex control of phase to make it happen. possible but it needs some. becaucse very few people need, i wont' work on it. I work on projects that lots of people benefit from it.

    All good except for the SSR you're using, according to Underwriters Laboratory, is a FAKE. It suffers from under rated internal parts and marginal isolation properties. It can at most handle 16 amps and will fail a 2500 volt isolation test. Use with care.

      Yes, I'm aware of that too, my sugestion is to use the cheap one for low current load only. If you need SSR to switch something expensive, you better buy the expensive SSR too.

      I mentioned the maximum current and voltage. so check the datasheet of your SSR and your motor. it should work if you don't go above the limit.

    Please be careful - it looks like you have a counterfeit SSR there!
    Look at the font on the logo - it really says 'FQTEK'...!
    There are several variations on this all over the internet but they all contain non original parts. The thing is they may appear to work as expected, but they will not be safety tested and are unlikely to be able to match the rated power without overheating, They are more likely to fail ON which could be very unsafe.

    Be very careful with these SSR!!! I used a 25 A SSR relais of this type and brand for a 230 V 2000 W water heater. After a few weeks it completely burnt and I am happy my house was not set on fire.

    I hate to burst your bubble but that Fotek relay is a fake and probably can't handle 15A. Also the isolation is very poor, this an electrical hazard.

    • @robojax
      @robojax  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just presented my test results. Why fake? Tomorrow you come and start a new firm. NEC comes and says you are fake. This won't be true. Whoever is behind Fotek, they are legit as ST or TDK or NEC.

      I bought one of these to play about with. When connected to AC I get about 12 Volts AC to earth from the input side. Surly this can't be right? I think you are right about the isolation. I have never had a look at a proper one so have nothing to compare.

    Make sure you buy FOTEK, not FQTEK. 99.99% of this kind of SSR on the internet are FQTEK which is a copycat of FOTEK. FQTEK's capacity rating is way, way, way over actual capacity.
