Judges 16-18 // Experiencing God 365 Days Through the Bible - Day 95

Not everyone who says they love you, loves you.
We will see that today in Judges 16-18
But first welcome to Experiencing God 365 Days Through the Bible - Day 95
Today we see more wicked and lustful decisions by Samson.
Chapter 16 starts out with Samson visiting a prostitute. His eyes and lustfulness continue to leave him in less desirable situations. 1st he wanted the woman from Timnah for his wife, who was a Philistine, now he’s with a prostitute and later the beauty of Delilah causes him an issue.
But when He was in Gaza with the prostitute, the men gathered together to kill him … instead Samson goes out at midnight and lifts the entire city gate on his shoulders and relocates it
In Chapter 16 Samson falls in love with Delilah. She’s propositioned by the rulers of the Philistines to find out what makes Samson so strong. They offer 1,100 pieces of silver each for her to find the answer.
So she asks. And 3 times he lies to her. And 3 times she does what he tells her and he is able to overpower the men when they come to get him.
16:16 She tormented him with her nagging day after day until he was sick to death of it.
Now listen, Samson didn’t learn his lesson. Honestly he is not very smart. He told his first wife the answer to the riddle. Now after 3 times of lying to Delilah and having her do to him what he said would take his power, and the men show up to get him, he tells her his secret.
Why?! I think this shows that even though you can be anointed you can be foolish.
Anyway, He tells her the secret is in his hair. Remember he took the vow of the Nazarite .. to never cut his hair .. well she cuts it .. the men come to get him .. he tries to escape but they gouge his eyes out …
While he was a captive, his hair began to grow back out.
The Philistine rulers had a great festival where they were worshiping their gods and praising their gods for victory over Samson. They brought Samson out, he stood between two pillars supporting the roof, a servant placed his hands on the pillars and Samson prayed to the Lord that he would give him the power to take out the Philistines and himself … so he pushed the pillars down and over 3,000 people died that day.
What stood out to you today?
The thing that lead to destruction, Samsons eyes, due to lustfulness .. was the thing he had stolen from him.
Now listen .. Chapter 17 and 18 where a hard tie in for me with Samsons story.
But it shifts gears and turns to Micah who is an Ephrimite who steals from his mom and hears her curse the person who stole from her, so he gives it back and she takes some of the money and has an imaged carved and an idol cast.
17:5 says Micah set up a shrine for the idol, and he made a sacred ephod and some household idols. Then he installed one of his sons as his personal priest.
These people are way off and wacky. Anyway a Levite priest comes traveling through and Micah thinks it a good idea to make him priest over the home .. which he’s out of order by not being where hes supposed to be.
Then the Tribe of Dan shows up. They are looking for land outside of they are supposed to be and they proposition the Levite to some and be their priest over their people .. so he goes and he takes the shrine and the ephod and all of the pagan things with them.
There is so much wrong with what’s going on here.
The tribe of Dan asked a Levite who was out of order if it was God’s will for them to go and take land ..
What stood out to you today?
That’s what stood out to me today - be careful who you ask for advice. You ask people who are living outside of the will of God for advice, you’ll probably get advice that’s outside of the will of God.
