Judges 19-21 // Experiencing God 365 Days Through the Bible - Day 96

There are no winners in a civil war
We will see that today in Judges 19-21
But first welcome to Experiencing God 365 Days Through the Bible - Day 96
Today we finish up the book of Judges.
We see civil war happen today as a result of lawlessness.
In chapter 19 we see a story about a Levite man and his concubine. For some reason she gets irritated with him and goes home .. I wonder why .. anyway he goes after her. He stays with his father in law for 5 days then they journey back. On their way back they stop in a town in Benjamin’s land and the towns men want to rape the Levite man. He basically sacrifices his concubine and they rape, beat and murder her. The Levite man takes her home, dismembers her and sends out pieces of her body to each tribe.
Members of the tribes meet together to decide what to do about this. They decide to go to war with Benjamin .. they go and inset that the men who did the wrong are handed over .. but they aren’t .. so there is a war.
We see something very important with this war.
3 times the Israelites pray to the Lord for how to attack Benjamin.
20:18 he says Juda is to go first.
But 22,000 Israelites are killed
20:23 the Lord says go out again and fight them
They loose 18,000 Israelites
Then they fasted and prayed .. there is power in fasting ..
20:28 I will hand them over to you.
And He does ..
600 men remained of the tribe of Benjamin - and the other tribes realize there is an issue because there are no longer wives these 600 men.
So the tribes meet together again and devise a completely evil plan .. they realize that no men from a certain town joined them to fight Benjamin .. so those men were killed and 400 virgins taken to the tribe of Benjamin.
But that still isn’t enough so they devise a plan for the tribe of Benjamin to basically kidnap women from their annual festival in Shiloh.
Total Anarchy. Vs 25 of chapter 21 says In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.
And you can tell.
What stood out to you today?
Prayer and fasting produce breakthrough.
