    Maybe it's just me but I don't think the scenes in Saltburn are that extreme. It's fun watching people react to it though and this was probably one of my favourite reactions to the film. Y'all are endearing as reactors, and I'm definitely subscribing to see future reactions 🙂

      The scenes certainly felt shocking to me haha, but i think that's just because there's no way i'd have ever anticipated what Oliver was gonna bloody do next! Really appreciate the kind comments there as well, glad to have you here! 😊

      It’s not that they’re graphic… they aren’t. It’s just that they’re very human and realistic and they build tension with silence. Those key scenes usually cut all other sounds out and just sit there in the awkwardness so you’re left to feel as if you were there which makes it more impactful than any normal graphic of violent scene.

      I agree. However, it was the lunch and the Happy Birthday ??? that got me. The supposed gross scenes didn't bother me. I have been described as a kinky bitch, so YMMV.

      @@JackDanReact I thought it was odd too that Felix accepted the bottle from Oliver after he was done with him, but Felix was intoxicated and perhaps too eager to drink more while dealing with his disappointment with Oliver. There was real hurt in his eyes. I think a bit more to it than just his mother's voyeurism toward the unfortunate, though not returning the kind of feelings Oliver had.

      @JackDanReact  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +31

      Oh for me pausing to discuss is an absolute must! I can't be missing important details whilst talking and then getting all confused. It adds so much time on to the raw footage but totally worth it to not miss any of the story in my opinion! Really glad to hear you enjoyed the video! 😊

  • @eouveluz
    @eouveluz 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +31

    Something that I find really interesting and just few people I've talked to or seen reviews got it: [obviously spoilers ahead] the Cattons are not simply victims of Oliver. Oliver only managed to eat them up from inside because they live off eating other people up to. INCLUDING Felix. If Felix wasn't already owner of everything anyone could possibly want, he probably would be smarter and just as dangerous as Oliver, because he was a collector. He and his family collected poor people to entertain themselves. AND that's what Farleigh was for them, and that's why Farleigh could see right through Oliver and saw him as a thread. At the end of the day the Cattons WERE racist even with Farleigh there and WERE classist even welcoming Oliver.
    So, nobody's good in this movie. AND this is why I don't like the plot twist (which isn't that surprising after a while) at the end. By making Oliver a full on killer makes the cruelty of the Cattons don't seem so bad after all.

    • @kimberlyjeanne9456
      @kimberlyjeanne9456 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      But I liked it bc as far as we know he wasn't a killer until he met Felix and his family. If he hadn't met Felix and then felt betrayed by him would he have ever killed anyone? Don't they say that there are plenty of psychopaths that don't kill people but sometimes there can be a trigger? It's thought provoking imo

    • @lbougie
      @lbougie 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      It’s correct that the Cattons (Elspeth, James, Venetia, and Felix) are racists to Farleigh, Liam, and Joshua. They are classists to the poor including Pamela.
      We found other things the Cattons did. They gossip and lie all the time, but Oliver is more pathological. It can be worse.
      I believe that some incidents they talked about to Oliver is as misunderstanding as it could be. The “sucking off the teachers” incident wasn’t specifically and physically detailed at all, that’s what I found.
      What other fans or viewers found about them is pretty complicated but also impressively interesting. They’re on the right track.
      They can be criminals, which is why they never call the emergencies, rescuers, or the police.
      Felix and Venetia are already dangerous to the boys and flirtatious to the girls. They can be dangerous to each other and the incest was placed.
      Felix loved to eat the girls, Venetia ate the boys, Elspeth ate the beauty, and James ate the heartbreak.
      You said that the Cattons aren’t the victims but rather the suspects that collect the poor people and I do hear it.
      The poor people have the shiny things, the Cattons consumed those and they finally have the shiny things to be filthy rich.
      Venetia said that Oliver was a moth to fire who drawn the shiny things, even the Cattons are the shiny things themselves.
      One last shiny thing that was never taken away was Farleigh, his will of owning the place is gone but he still has faith in him to fight back, heal, think, thrive, redeem, and aware.
      If the Drayton House contains the demon cult, then the secret might be unlocked, knowing that the Cattons continue to collect the shiny things as a blood sacrifice for fun and splendor.
      On the other hand, Oliver brought more demonic activity to control the Drayton House if he got everything he needed and wanted.
      If nobody is good in this movie, it’ll be way too hopeless. There was one hope we can and always depend on, even it will be a simple change for the future to both fact and fiction, and that is Farleigh Start.

    • @lbougie
      @lbougie 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      One more thing, Oliver wasn’t eating the rich. He killed the Cattons for human sacrifices, and then collected all the souls to him, therefore becoming them by owning a new love of one’s self.

  • @chelscara
    @chelscara 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

    14:49 yup. Felix is a sweet guy…he’s also a terribly cocky douche who acts like he can get whatever he wants because between his looks and his money, he can in fact get whatever, and whomever, he wants. Such well fleshed out characters, honestly, they all feel like they have a real past. Well, the family at least 😂😂

  • @LeslieField-k1u
    @LeslieField-k1u 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    43:35 You were perhaps the only reaction vid I've seen so far that noticed and sympathized with the mum there. And how he pulls away from her. Really ungrateful, will never be satisfied no matter what he gets, and it's clear it troubles Felix too. It's a foreshadowing of how he can turn on others even if they think they were being kind to him.
    Great vid.

  • @PowerDiva
    @PowerDiva 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

    What I love about this film is that in the beginning we focused on Michael (maths boy) and his erratic behavior, then the bright shiny object of Felix when he came into the picture and how completely out of touch and bizarre the rest of the family is... the idea that Oliver is the crazy one isn't even a thought. He's kind of positioned as the normal one... so much so that the first few hints we get otherwise don't always register. It's not until the bathtub scene where most people are like whoa wait a minute... maybe Oliver isn't who we thought.

    • @SaidByTy
      @SaidByTy 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I knew Oliver wasn’t exactly normal pretty early on when he was watching Felix hook up with that girl

      @PowerDiva 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SaidByTyyou must be a genius.
      Of course, that's the first real clue that we get. What I said was the movie is designed to misdirect us so that we gloss over moments like that until they hit us real hard with that bathtub scene. Some people aren't susceptible to it and still pick things up early - but a lot of people don't.

      I don’t know if you have seen things, it’s nearly visible.

    • @lbougie
      @lbougie 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      @bambodart7760
      Puzzle pieced
      A signet ring has the sun symbol that represents Male which is James and Felix, and a moon symbol that represents Female which is Elspeth and Venetia. Now an arrow pierced hand symbol represents deep emotional pain, suffering, or a feeling of being struck by a powerful force, it is a symbol of God’s Judgement with high power. Here’s the reason. The Cattons are the natural predators who caused boredom and could be insufferable pain (secretly) to the people they brought and tossed away for their own different purposes. Farleigh is the only one who wore a signet ring as a family crest as he visits there before he witnesses and realizes that his family, the Catton family, is sinister and disloyal to him and the others. More than once, the movie proved him right and not only until Oliver came and witnessed the family. Farleigh finally keeps Oliver off from his family and his home as he protected those since he found Oliver guilty.
      Now, there’s a closing of a birthday aftermath. He’s ousted permanently but this is what Oliver favored Farleigh to be excused twice and he doesn’t want to be excused, he needs his money back for his mom, he needs his answers about his family’s dark secrets, he needs more time to stay at Saltburn for healing process, he needs his wish to bring everything back to normal. He’s sick and tired of being silent, being falsely accused of, pretending to be happy while hiding his pain from others, and being a bully he doesn’t want to be. He’s been through obstacle courses that were due to drugs, alcohol, financial disadvantages or deprivations, and psychological traumas from the people and other things. He’s a real good human being who broke his silence and learned from his mistakes. He is truthful and smart. Being excused is when you’re freed, forgiven, and removed from blame and he doesn’t want Farleigh to love the Cattons back again, it’s like embracing the demons in the past. Oliver sacrificed himself to free Farleigh for safety in a heartbreaking way with his last lie and frame up before getting what he wanted for his greater good and revenged against the Cattons at the same time, therefore Oliver embracing his bigger evil. That does mean Oliver and Farleigh would see each other for the last time until 2022, but their love and friendship didn’t end. Oliver wanted to help Farleigh from having his hard times and this is what he deserved, gratitude. Oliver wished Farleigh to trust him and forgive his sad truths and so many guilts. Farleigh doesn’t want to live in horrible pain from the past and present for his new START of a future anymore by the Grace of God, he accepts the right thing to move over, overcome his fears in his American home, and recover his health. He threw his signet ring to the pond as a means to be removed from the cursed family picture forever after his cousin Felix’s untimely death which Oliver killed. That’s my guess and my proof on 100%.
      Sorry for the long description and I know that you’re hoping for answers to the Blu Rays & DVDs.

    46:13 Another interpretation of the gold wings is that he's Icarus, who died after falling from a great height (and connected to the myth of the minotaur). When you see the bird's eye of him lying dead, the statue's shadow is reaching out for him and there is a brief flash of sunlight off the wings, a "short lived glory". Flew too close to the sun!

    59:05 for scenes like the nude dance and grave, they actually had a minimal crew present so the actor would be less self conscious and sometimes an "intimacy coordinator" involved even tho it isn't a scene between two people.

    "And I will see you back at Oxford" I think sent a chill through Oliver and might have been a factor in his decision to kill. He didn't like the idea of the most popular guy on campus being against him for his remaining years and perhaps giving tacit permission to his friends to harass (rather than do it himself). On top of which it would have been a stab through the heart every time he saw this (very visible) person on campus since I do think in his own twisted serial killer way, he was in love.

      As I watched the trailer a couple months before the movie was released, I kinda saw right through Oliver in my head because he looked menacing. As you know I thought it’s gonna be a horror movie but unfortunately it isn’t, sometimes. Yes, we finally had seen right through him and nobody had seen it coming from him.

    Did anyone else assume that Felix wasn't just some random victim....He was obsessed with the lifestyle "Saltburn" so it makes you wonder if he already studied this family history and placed himself in the same university and had been planning this long before we picked up on the story.
    .

    • @ZakhadWOW
      @ZakhadWOW 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      dont be a jackass.. One does not "place" oneself in Oxford, considering the background he came from. It was clearly stated he was there on a scholarship.. One does NOT manipulate those without major power/influence, which his family didnt have. He could easily have met some other magnetic personality and gone down a path with them.
      The big issue is how easily the Cattons made it to violently hate them.. I mean Felix was the only one that he apparently had any feelings for.. the other 3 were all clearly objectionable and irredeemable, and therefore to be eliminated.

    • @theConquerersMama
      @theConquerersMama 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @ZakhadWOW do we even know he was on a scholarship?
      Remember the scene in the pub where he had money in his wallet and played poor?
      I think he went to Oxford with every intention of doing better, raising himself above his middle-class parents.
      I don't think he went with just Felix in mind but was planning on climbing high through connections one way or another.
      That, he had looked at tabloids and such (SInce this is pre social media) as to how the other half lived and envied it. Began to covet the lifestyle as well as the specificity of Felix.
      When I went to college in the 80s, I had people who approached me saying they knew of me or my family because of bits in the news (we are not like Felix's family). I saw it happen with classmates as well. I went up to people and did the whole - here's the way we have a tangential connection ( our parents knew each other, I was in the same division sports but a few years behind, had been to their house, restaurant, gallery etc, saw their show or speech or whatever) the professor event brings up his tangential relationship to the famy when he first meets the cousin.
      I think Oliver made himself into an interesting modern Dickensian character instead of a middle class social climber to have a better story, whether Felix fell for it or some other way to rise up to where he wanted to be. Anywhere but becoming his suburban dad.
      The story of the guy who fooled Oprah with his book about his depraved drug addiction comes to mind. He fooled her and the publishers and everyone into having this wonderful story they could all dine on and treat like a pet. To feel better about rescuing. Only to be a medium talented writer from a solid middle-class home who had never been homeless or been in rehab.
      Oprah had her whole book club support him. He got book deals, movie deals (that fell through), and became a best-selling author.
      People reinvent themselves as long cons all the time. Even if the target is not specific.
      I think Oliver Quick ( very Dickens/Robert Louis Stevenson name) fell in love with the Cattons' life first and Felix second.
      I think he'd gone to museums and such growing up and longed for a life that he read about.

    Oliver is a sociopath. Sociopaths don't have the same emotions as "normal" folks. Slurping the bath water was a form of reverence. Same as the episode at the grave site. While these scenes make "healthy" people gag, a man like Oliver was at the alter of a god (Felix.) It was pure worship. Worship is never healthy. I loved this movie.
