    First time I have seen your videos, and thank you from a big person for this video. However, it is frustrating that they made a ride based on one of the biggest charcters of all time, that does not accomodate big people LOL

      And Disney made Flight of Passage, a ride based on a film where the main character has no lower body mobility -- and the ride has difficulty accommodating people with compromised lower body mobility. I find that very frustrating as well. They have dozens upon dozens of designers and engineers and people who focus on capturing the feel of these films and they make major misses that impact thousands and thousands of guests. Maybe someday they will hire me as a theme park consultant and I can advise them on things they can do to make their rides and attractions more accessible to people of a range of sizes and physical abilities.

    Thank you for this video. Because of it, I insisted we try the tester seats. I am 5'4" and roughly 230. I was able to fit on Hagrids (sidecar). My husband is 6 ft, and over 250. He said the Hagrid ride was a little tight but he got the green light too.
    We both got pulled out right before we got on so they could see the green light on tester seat, although we had already tried and gotten the green light outside.
    My husband said if he were any taller or even 5 pounds heavier, he would not have been able to ride.
    I was grateful I made us try it in advance, because that would have been humiliating to get that far and not get to go.

      You are welcome, Erica. When I was about 3 hours into waiting in line and I was in an area that was particularly hot -- I looked around and noticed that he queue was actually kind of quiet -- no screaming kids, no irritated parents -- mostly smiles and laughter all around. I realized something was missing -- cell phones! All the families were talking, joking, playing games, trying to spot Easter Eggs in the design details, and talking about their favorite moments from the Harry Potter books and films. It was so cool to see everyone interacting and enjoying their time together. Sure, we love the rides but what really go for is the opportunity to bond with family and friends.

    Thank you so much for this important information for Plus Size persons! I am a pretty big guy and I have struggled with my weight ever since I hit 40. I am not aware of any other channels that address this issue. Also, I appreciate your honesty and your willingness to share your own dimensions. That takes fortitude and courage. Best Regards!

    • @PammiePlusParks
      @PammiePlusParks  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you, Matthew. When I first started making videos I noticed even when people were giving plus size info -- they would never share their own info so I had no idea if I would fit -- so I made up my mind to share my info even if I was nervous about it. At first there were a number of people who tried to belittle me but many, many more people were supportive. I grew more confident about sharing my info -- and I guess it showed in my face because people stopped making nasty comments. I learned a valuable lesson -- that employees in theme parks are happy to help you if you ask them for assistance and most people leave you alone if you don't make a fuss about your size -- we don't need to apologize for our bodies and there's a lot more nice people than mean people in the world. Thank you so much for watching and for your lovely note.

    Fantastic video Pammie! Was hoping to see you Thursday but I think we were a little ahead of you! You are so right about the in-line conversations. I went with my best friend, and we had no trouble talking to each other on Thursday. But we went again on Friday and there was a family of four behind us, and we all became fast friends! I was at the park today and tried but didn't make it. I'm 5'5 275 and us size 20w. I was with my family and they tried to help me and so did the attendant. I tried both sides of the car. The width was ok but I couldn't pull the bar down far enough. On the plus side I did fit on the mummy. At first I was afraid to try the test seats but then felt more confident as the day went on, thanks to you! I was actually thinking if you as I was testing!

    • @PammiePlusParks
      @PammiePlusParks  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is really important to try the test seats. You are an inch taller than me and 50 pounds lighter than me but still were not able to fit. I was just a bit over an inch from fitting -- if I had a push down on the restraint I might have been able to ride. It all comes down to how you carry your weight. You don't know how until you try it.

    Wow...this video makes me feel as thought I am watching a pre-boarding security for an airline, I have never seen such an informative example of an experienced person dealing out the hard facts of what is what. I used to live in FLA, (Spring Hill, actually, right next to good ol St.Petersburg, quite near enough to Disneyworld and all the other parks in the early 80's on) and it never occurred to me that rides have had to become more inclusive, which is great, as I used to have to walk with braces, (old school leather and metal bolted into boots) and cane, and even then, I would wear pants to hide them. Never used the 'short line' for disabled, as I was a kid that wanted anything but people seeing at that awkward age of 12 on. Amazing that your vid covers everything to ensure that people are well more informed than just what it posted on the website.
    Good on you, I say...I doubt I shall ever be back in FLA or CA for this to be something I will see soon, so...I guess I will just have to settle for cruising on my on eartbound bike (my Vroom Broom...;) ) until then. I am in remission from the juvenile RA that kept me and my bones in braces for years on and off, and --knowingly acknowledging the lack of internet back then--it makes me happy to see people pushing themselves to *sigh* have to experience the ride for the rest of us.
    (Nice editing board, btw...) Cheers, I'm quite sure you provide more confidence for riders that may feel anxious about boarding a ride like this.
    (A roaming people mover? Yeah? Just like Haunted Mansion??? Wow...that IS interesting, makes me also wonder how and why.)

      @PammiePlusParks  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! A lot of work and research goes into these videos. For this ride alone I waited in line for 5 hours. That doesn't count all the research done in advance. I work to build good relationships with folks who work in the theme parks who, when they are cleared to do so, are often able to give me additional information that you don't see in brochures or online for the rides. They also confirm all the guidelines for the rides as well. As the channel grows I am learning that more than just plus size people and those with mobility, accessibility, congnitive and sensory concerns are finding the information useful. I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to learn that people find the information helpful, useful and enjoyable to watch. This is truly a passion project and I hope many people will find that they are able to enjoy rides that they once thought were impossible. As corny as it may seem, the idea that in my own small way I might be able to help people make memories with their friends and family that last a lifetime is what I hope for with each video I make. Thank you so much for your feedback. It means a lot to me when people see the care and concern I put into the videos.

    So, regarding the prosthetics rule, I was talking to a maintenance engineer last summer at universal who was telling my friend and I that while they were draining the lake beneath the duelling dragons, they actually found a prosthetic leg that someone lost on that ride a few years ago 😅
    Also much appreciate the minimal line footage! I’ve been trying to avoid a lot of the line and ride pictures that have been all over facebook and it’s hard!

    • @PammiePlusParks
      @PammiePlusParks  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's fascinating, Claire. Thank you for sharing.
      I know there is tons and tons of footage of the queue and Easter Eggs in the design -- I didn't want to cover what has already been done and I also wanted to save some things for you to discover as you experience the ride for yourself. I noticed tons of practical information was not covered by all the magazines, bloggers and vloggers who were invited to the media event and I wanted to bridge that gap in information and share things people need to know to calm any fears or anxiety they may have about being in such a long line for a ride. This channel and the video are absolutely a passion project fo rme and the work comes from the heart -- I am so glad it shows and is appreciated. 💚

      @PammiePlusParks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re welcome 😊 Universal parks play copyrighted music super loud in and around all the rides and attractions and dining areas. I will add another track of beats or music under the ambient audio to mask the music and avoid copyright infringement.
      Thanks to Patreon contributions I was able to purchase a directional mic, lav mic and support rig which has been allowing me to capture my voice more directly and puts the ambient music further in the background and less recognizeable.
      I think most folks would be surprised how much effort goes into producing decent video and audio using consumer grade equipment. It really helps to have more professional options. I am very grateful to everyone who supports the channel and allows me to create better quality videos.

    I’ve never been a coaster person, but on this Orlando trip I was building up my confidence to get on this ride. I started with the smaller stuff at the Disney parks and got bigger, building up to Hagrids. I’ve always been plus size, but I’ve also always been an athlete. For this trip I was about 5’9, 315 lbs, and I carry most of my weight in my thighs and butt, and I have a moderate sized belly. I waited over an hour with my party, and was pulled aside to use the bike tester seat and told I couldn’t ride. My mom wasn’t allowed to push down on the restraint, either. My older brother is a college football player, weights about 230 and is 6’3, and barely fit on the bike. We were also attending the park roughly a month after he had foot surgery, and he was in a hard cast. He said his foot hurt the entire time to the extent that he couldn’t even enjoy the ride because of the pain. This is the only ride, other than Flight of Passage at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, that we couldn’t ride. The position of his cast wouldn’t allow his foot to slide into the restraint, and my calves wouldn’t fit. So, do with this what you will, lol. My goal is to lose enough weight to be able to ride Hagrid’s when we go back in a year, and he’s also excited to ride it again with a non-casted foot haha. Universal, BE MORE INCLUSIVE!

    Great video thank you very much - it put my mind at ease especially considering Universal themselves stated a waist of 40" or above may have trouble getting on, obviously nonsense. It does seem a bit ridiculous that Hagrid himself couldn't ride his own motorbike and side car hahaha!!! Universal at it again it would seem!

    • @aimeemarie5462
      @aimeemarie5462 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought that was wild bc I'm a size 10 US and my waist is 40inches. That seems a bit small for a ride requirement. Good to know it isnt really true.

    • @PammiePlusParks
      @PammiePlusParks  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's always a good idea to try the tester seat just to be sure. A tall person who is 48" may be OK but someone shorter with weight distributed differently may have issues. But yes -- based on reports I've been hearing -- most people 300 lbs or under are able to fit on the motorbike without needing a push.

    Thank you for your very informative, sensitive and discreet comments, you were extremely reassuring and as a short plus size lady I really do appreciate the effort you have put in to discover exactly who this ride is safe and accessible for. I came upon your channel by chance but am now a subscriber. We as a family probably won’t have the opportunity to visit Orlando and all of the theme parks for a couple of years now following our first visit last year, however I feel reassured I can now watch your channel to gain answers to my questions regarding the various rides I worry about fitting onto comfortably. Thanks Pammie

    Thank you for all this great information. Found your channel based off recommendations in the UOAP FB group. As someone who is tall (5'11"), is about a size 24/26, has mobility issues, limited knee/leg flexibility, and uses an ECV, I was/am pretty hesitant about riding anything in Wizarding World (currently can only ride the train and Hippogriff coster). This video gave me a lot of information I was searching for to prepare for my visit in the fall.

    Hi Pammie. Great Video and valuable information. I’m a big guy and we’ve been to both Disneyland and Disney World and I was able to ride literally everything. We want to visit Universal and it seems they try to accommodate bigger people. I will look at your other videos. Disney does a fabulous job to accommodate everyone whereas Six Flags doesn’t and likely that’s because of the intense nature of the rides. Thank you for your channel. I subscribed and again thank you for your channel.

      I know that when we travel with a group, we don't always have the luxury of planning the entire itinerary around ourselves -- although Disney has many more rides and attractions better suited to large/tall/differently abled people, Universal can still be a really fun day. Make use of the test seats out in front of the rides to see if the restraints will be comfortable for you. If the ride is a no go for you -- accompany your party into the queue.
      Universal has wonderfully themed queues that are a lot of fun and many, like Gringotts, are packed with fabulous details. You can enjoy the queue, spend time with your travel group, then opt out of the ride just before the last leg of the queue where they line you up for seating. Most thrill rides have a special rider switch/family waiting area -- many of them are indoors with air conditioning and a TV. You can chill out and wait for your party to exit the ride.
      There are several rides in both Universal parks that work for plus size people. Jimmy Fallon has seatbelt extenders, Minions has a stationary bench (so no restrictive lap bar), ET standard seats are fantastic but they also have a couple of vehicles with bench seats. My favorite ride is Men In Black -- it's a literal blast! Plus there are shows, live outdoor entertainment, and safely distanced character experiences. Also, the food at Universal is a lot better than Disney, in my opinion.
      Go into Universal knowing that some of the thrill rides will be difficult to fit or not doable but focus on all the fun things in the park and enjoying the people you are with -- you will make lots of great memories.

    OMG Pammie! Thank you so much for these amazing tips! I am 5 feet tall and 215 lbs, so I typically "just barely fit" into many rides myself, so it is just extremely helpful that you are doing these access videos. Providing your experiences as well as your size is so helpful to me, and I know not everyone is willing to do that. I LOVE amusement parks, but I always feel self-conscious about trying to fit on rides. It was so easy when I was a teen and weighed 110 pounds, but thankfully, many people understand that the struggle is real. My husband (5 feet 8 inches and 145 lbs) and my adult children (5 ft 3 inches and 110 lbs and 5 ft 2 inches and 95 lbs) and I are going to Universal in 3 weeks and this info is so helpful to me. I really appreciate what you said about family in the queue. My friend and I were just talking about this. When we were there we decided not to bring our phones and spent the whole hour (I think? Again no phones) we waited talking and taking in the sights. We were slightly disappointed in the pair in front of us. It was a man and a child, assuming father and son but could be other relation...but the adult was on his phone the whole time while his 11 year old(?) Was left to entertain himself. My friend and I both discussed how that was a missed opportunity for bonding or making an exceptional memory.

      Robbie Coltrane -- the actor who plays Hagrid is a big and tall man -- I am not sure he would be able to fit on the ride and I wonder if that had something to do with why he was not there to launch the ride. However, Warwick Davis was in attendance for the grand opening of the ride and I believe he is not tall enough to go on the ride. It's a shame. I wish there were accommodations for larger, taller and shorter people for all theme park rides.

    I am surprised that this ride was made so un-accommodating for so many people. I have watched the POV video. This is a really cool coaster. Maybe someday the ywill add a couple of normal nondescript cars to the end that would work easily for more riders.

    • @PammiePlusParks
      @PammiePlusParks  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I totally agree that this ride could be even more accommodating, I do see this as a step in the right direction for Universal. When they opened Forbidden Journey and Escape from Gringotts, they had so many complaints about fit that they finally created some more accommodating seats for tall and plus size people -- but even those seats still don't allow everyone to ride. At least with this ride they opened it with all the standards seats being very close to as accommodating as the modified seats on the other Harry Potter thrill rides. I do hope that they will eventually create some seating that is even more accessible to people with mobility concerns, very tall folks. plus size people and people of short stature. One of the stars of the Harry Potter series, esteemed actor Warwick Davis, is 42" tall -- six inches shy of being able to go on this ride -- and he attended the opening of the ride. How disappointing that he cannot enjoy it!
