    Our locomotive savior has again saved another. Thanks SMT. Hope you get the Canadiana working soon. Would be nice to see two of them working together pulling a train.

    Great video!
    I got a Spirit of 76 F9 for free from a lot of engines. I got so fed up with the Tyco system that I scrapped the mechanics, got an old Athern blue box F7 chassis and made it work. Runs like, well and Athern now.

      well Bluebox to me is GOD. Cheap, good running, well detailed, what more could i ask for. Go to any train show or local model train store and you'll find cheap Athearn Bluebox Locomotives, i've got 2 stored in NC an f Unit and an SD-40 that are both Pennsylvania and there may be more than that stored in boxes in my grandparent's attic that i havent seen, but i now make it my goal every show i go to now to buy and save a cheap Athearn Bluebox Locomotive from the parts box.

    Another great video! Although if you want to know my thoughts on Tyco motors....they're unreliable. If I were you, I'd save up money and get some Northwest Short Lines "Stanton Drives" for these and at least replace the power truck with one. They're not cheap (I think like $50-$70 depending on where you look), but I've heard many good things about them. They're also DCC ready, if I may add, so you can DCC these engines. Definitely worth looking into. It might also be neat to see you try finding a nicer locomotive that matches this (maybe an Athearn, or Atlas model) and painting it to match. You seem to be pretty good with soldering too! Great job restoring the Spirit of '76 to operating condition, and I wish you luck on the Canadiana!

    Ben told you that go to a locksmith and get some of the cylinder lock Springs and they'll work or you can use an old Bachman pancake motor brushes in Spring. Out of the pancake Motors usually have split gears in them anyways

    🇺🇸 1 - - 🇨🇦 0 this bout Harrison. After seeing all of that glue, I thought you might have just taken what you needed from the '76 to repair the Canadiana. Next time you see some scrap locos (not worth fixing) for cheap, get them for the locomotive boneyard. Never know what you can pilfer from one to fix another, even if it's just aesthetic like a missing horn or railing. FUN VIDEO 👍👍👍

    I have a Spirit of 76 Tyco Alco with Power Torque (I think). I too, got it off of Ebay and took it apart and oiled the axles and cleaned the wheels, sort of. Not like you do. Just with alcohol. Anyway, it runs but not as good as it should. At first it would only pull its caboose. I replaced the traction bands on the front and it pulls a lot better. It can now pull 5 cars. After a few times around the track (10 minutes or so) it seems to slow down like the engine is worn. Is there something more I should do?

    • @SMTMainline
      @SMTMainline  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it starts with high speed and then slows down that's likely the sign of a tired motor. Replacements are super easy find though.

    Yo! Do you have an email I can reach you at!? I have a Walthers TrainLine CP Rail Systems, GP9M that I bought by mistake, ive watched all your videos! And wanted to know if I could send it to you somehow. Nothing's wrong with it! And I think you'd take great care of it!
