The Remington trigger is about the easiest to adjust but most issues might happen if you back off the sear adjustment too much. That’s been my experience. Many rifles through the 1990’s came lawyerized with 7 pound triggers and a load of creep. But the Remington trigger, even the older ones, are usually adequately adjusted for weight and creep.

I personally love the 700 triggers as a whole. They are about as good as most custom jobs in my opinion.

I've owned three Rem 700 Mountain Rifles and they were/are all tack drivers. Two were .280 caliber and one is .270 caliber.
Fun to shoot from the bench and very low recoil in .270 with 130 grain pills.
My rifle isn't fussy about factory ammo.

I agree 100% with your assesment of cleaning the bore. Just my opinion of course, but I'm a firm believer that a seasoned (fouled) bore shoots more accurately than a pristine bore. That has been the case for me at least and I've been shooting intelligently since the early 70's. I never scrubbed a bore. The most I do now is pass a bore snake through the bore 2 times after soaking the bore with just plain old Hoppes #9 and then a different snake lightly coated in RemOil. As I have said before, I have a sporterized (professionally done) Model 96 6.5x55 Swedish mauser with a 1912 receiver date that shoots < 1 MOA still. I sent you the picture of it couple days ago to your email. Hope you got it.

Your cleaning routine sounds right to me. These super cleaners might actually benefit a few rifles but in general they do way more harm than good for certain.
And yes Sir I got your pictures of both that fine looking woman and rifle. I answered your emails but I did it via text. Might not have been too smart on my part,
But a fantastic looking rifle and in the great old war horse 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser. I am a big fan of the 6.5 Sweed but am not a fan of the 6.5 Creedmore. For pure target shooting the Creedmore is fine, but when it comes to hunting it can’t match the 6.5x55.
For all practical purposes the 6.5x55 leaves nothing to
be desired. But if one wants even higher performance then get yourself a .264 Win Mag!!
Merry Christmas to you and your wife.

I love them Mountain Rifles I've got two of them in 270win and they will shoot. I reload with H-4831sc with 140gr. Nosler accubond that's my favorite load for the Mountain rifle. Love the video👍

Yes Sir, they are fine rifles indeed. Your bullet choice is a winner. Thank you for watching.

I've learned alot watching your videos. I now understand why I had accuracy problems in the past. No wonder that Ruger 77 didn't always shoot as good as I wanted. I always thought you had to clean all the copper out of your barrel. I always used copper solvents such as Sweets 7.62 and so on. Last few years I have used just Hoppes 9 to get the powder fouling out and that was about it. Seemed like alot of my bad groups are accuracy problems went to the way side. Even gunblue 490 recommends staying away from harsh cleaners. Thanks for the videos and advice.

The chase for accuracy is never ending. So many things influences it that are beyond our own control, but how we clean our rifles is in our control! We don’t need to be hurting ourselves.
Hornady has a podcast on TH-cam that discusses the elusive quest for perfect accuracy and why we will never attain it. Very interesting and super informative.

Just found your channel and have binge watched a bunch of it. Lots of theories on cleaning barrels. Benchrest shooters clean to bare metal every few rounds, class F all the way to bare metal after a match or when they see a drop in accuracy, practical match shooters when they see a drop in accuracy (as many as 6-800 rounds). Hunters may never clean it to bare metal. I think hunting rifle barrels benefit with seasoning as you say, some of the finer match barrels maybe not so much. My theory if it shoots good leave it alone, if it don’t then start trying everything you can think of. Keep the videos coming I’m enjoying them.

    • @dennispritchardoutdoors7882
      @dennispritchardoutdoors7882  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes Sir, there is no shortage of theories about cleaning and I suppose they all work for those that use them. But bench rest and virtually all target shooters are using custom barrels and these folks spare no expense. If one barrel doesn’t suit them it is off to the smith for another one. But the average hunter uses the rifles as is from the factory. His accuracy standards are a bit different to the confirmed target shooter. He also doesn’t shoot as much.
My personal goals is to achieve varmint rifle accuracy with hunting rifles. I learn each rifle and what it prefers both as to the loads and wether they want clean or fouled barrels.
Thank you for watching and for commenting.

@@dennispritchardoutdoors7882 I completely agree with you, sorry if it didn’t sound that way. I’ve got one Ruger , a newer 77 in 257 Roberts, that seems to like a very clean barrel and man is it picky on loads. It’s the only hunting rifle I’ve had that has been that way. I’ve got a 700 in 30/06 that can have enough copper in it is turning blue and will stay under an inch with just about any load you put in it, don’t clean it too much or you’re starting from scratch. Most are in between those two. I agree most hunting rifles don’t like a perfectly clean barrel.

Once I shoot them before season, I wait until after the season to clean them. I might oil the outside if I got caught in wet weather to stave off rust, but not the bore.
And that’s true on the copper fouling stuff like Sweets 7.62. I have a bottle that’s pushing 25 years old (smell the ammonia). It took a good ten rounds after you used it to get accuracy back.

An old hard and fast rule is if it ain't broke don't try to fix it. Using those cleaners in those rifles is about the same thing as washing a perfectly seasoned cast iron skillet will hot soapy water or even running it through a dishwasher. It destroys the seasoning. It kills the flavor if you will

@dennispritchardoutdoors7882 you don't need to deep clean a hunting rifle unless you've been using softer cast bullet hand loads . Hoppes is perfect for general cleaning. I use it then I run a couple of patches saturated with bore butter

Dennis off hand different subject regarding BLR 7mm 08 what size mounts did you use to attach the scope rings with a 1.5-5x20 (I think I got the size right) did you use the low mounts rings 11:32 11:34 or do I need medium to mount to the one piece mount? The beautiful high gloss scopes are a thing of the past for that size scope. Thank you kindly!
