The 700 wood ADL and BDL used to be the dream guns of the 70’s and 80’s. Nice to see they’re back. The new 870 is super nice too

I bought a 700 BDL in 7 mm mag around 1984/5. Still my go to gun 40 years later. I love it. Bolt is smooth as butter and she is a nail driver. Here’s the best part, got it for $400 and it came with a 3x9 redfield scope. A guy had bought it and ran a box of shells through it and didn’t like it. His loss, my gain!

I got a 700bdl made in December 1971 in 308 and the wood is way nicer on old ones the new ones looks ok but nothing like the older ones they look like the wood was dipped in lacker super glossy plus they had real bluing not that matt black look but its way nicer then all the plastic stocked guns

As an avid hunter and firearms enthusiast, I am thrilled to see Remington return with the new Model 700 CDL in .243 Winchester. The Remington Model 700 has a long-standing reputation for accuracy, reliability, and quality, and its reintroduction is a cause for celebration among the shooting community. The .243 Winchester is a versatile and popular cartridge known for its flat trajectory and manageable recoil, making it an excellent choice for hunting a wide variety of game. I am eager to get my hands on the new Model 700 CDL and experience the legendary performance that Remington is known for. Welcome back, Remington!

I inherited my dad’s 1975 Model 700 Mountain Rifle in .270. First year Remington made it. Very thin profile barrel pencil like. It was a very accurate rifle but with my hand loads it’s absolutely unbelievable with 140g SST’s. The old man slayed countless whitetail in the Pennsylvania mountains with it. It’s priceless

  • @vinnyg-44

I have owned a number of Remington rifles and currently still hunt with a model 700 Classic since and from 1988. They used button rifling back then and are very acurate. Now they use R5 which is good for "some" calibers, I have never owned a rifle with R5 rifling. There were issues with model 700 triggers - if cleaning and oil solutions caked up and harded in the trigger it would then lock up and one time I experienced the bolt (at the range) fired just by closing it, I used WD-40 to clean out the gunk and get the action back in working condition but then replaced it with a Timney Trigger which is excellent and never gave me trouble to this day so if they are outfitted now with Timney triggers you can bank on a great trigger action. Good move Remington. Remington had a law suit in 2014 in relation to (their) the old triggers. I would not hesitate to purchase a new model 700 today though they average a grand in price and my first one in 1988 was $389.00 My reconmendation hands down first for all model 700's is to install Talley rings, the rings are integral with the base and will sit perfectly inline on the reciever! they are IMHO the best. I would'nt skimp on optics. I'm sorry but I hunt the tic infested woods of the North East and never concidered a 243 winchester for my collection for big game, not saying it's a bad cartridge. If I had one and hunted [long range] open field I would probably do atleast a 2-7x / 2-8x or 3-9x if not perhaps a Leupold 3.5/10x40 but it's pricey. I favor Burris signature HD scopes nowadays they are just as good IMHO and much less $. Good sucess with your rig !

you made a great choice! when Remington purchased marlin all the haters bad mouth the the rem/marlin, but Remington at the end was turning out some nice lever guns. The haters kept the value of the rifles dirt cheap, I bought a truck load of them. Then Ruger came out with the first of the marlins, few bucks short of $1000. Haters cried again! I have a few old rem BDL 's and the first Remington mountain rifle in 280 rem. Stock factory gun shoots 3 shot group inside a dime. Lets just pray to they do good on the rifle barrels, or Bergara rifle company will eat they lunch.

Pretty impressive. I bought one of those in about 1995 or so. Yeah I’m old. It was the best shooting gun I had until recent years. It was almost identical to the looks of that one. I’m hoping rem arms stops trying to compete with Savage for the cheapest thing on the market and will return to the quality of the past. I’d be happy to pay for quality from them and hopefully they can take back what Bergara and Tikka has taken over in that part of the market. You should really look at the Barnes 95 grain lrx that takes the faster twist rates. I bet it would serve you well. When you figure out how that thing groups I will be interested in watching. 2A💪

Great rifles. I never owned one. I am a Winchester or Ruger bolt action guy. But the Remington 700 is certainly a fine, classic rifle. I hope the "new" Remington does a great job with these.
Recoil pad looks a bit much for a .243 WCF. I imagine they are using the same pad for all chamberings. On the other hand, you could remove it and replace it with a thin rubber buttplate for a smaller person. The .243 doesn't generate enough recoil to need a "recoil" pad.

Beautiful rifle... I'm glad to see Remington is finally getting their heads out of their hind sides again and making quality rifles and ammo... I have tried to be a fan of the 243 but I cant bring myself to like it... I give it credit for being tested and loved by many but I personally rank it right there with the 6.5 creed and the 308 win as overrated... Cant deny the fact that the 243 has filled freezers with meat and walls with trophy mounts for decades but the 7mm-08 fills that low recoil, short action hunting rifle niche for me... great video though as always! keep em coming!!!

Gloss would hold up better in bad weather. On the stock and barrel.
I have a VLS heavy barrel, and It is nothing compared to the old BDL varmint special that I had years back. The rough finish on barrel seems to hold more moisture, the barrel is 26 inches long, and the stock is pretty, but it doesn't have the richness of the old classic walnut stock.
Your rifle looks like the old bdl. Beautiful rifles!

I saw a guy at the range the other day with a brand new CDL in 30-06, it was his first rifle I believe. Beautiful rifle. I have one of the "new" R700's as well, SPS tactical with the threaded barrel. Couldn't say a bad word about it. I've put 5 different kinds of factory ammo through it without a hiccup. Ringing steel with all of them out to 600y all day. Barrel is a peach. Unless you have to have that m16 extractor or want the bergara target stock I would say the remington is finally the better money buy which is shocking even to me saying it.
Edit: forgot to say that by comparison I didn't notice much difference between the guy's CDL and my SPS except obviously his had the gorgeous stock and the jeweling on his bolt was much nicer visually. Would love to take both bolts side by side and compare the lugs and cocking ramps and such. wouldn't be surprised if they were a little better finished but that's just a hunch

2 weeks ago I bought a 700 long range 7mm prc, for 10 days now I have been waiting for a shipping label from Remarms - it would not extract new hornady cases without tapping the bolt open with a mallet, borescope inspection shows raised burrs in the chamber, the wait for the shipping label for repair is ridiculous as is the damaged chamber-it was obviously never test fired or properly inspected before it left the ilion plant.

I got a Mountain LSS 3006, Laminated stock in 2003.
Correct me if I am wrong, but the rifle nowadays seemed to has thicker recoil pad.
Its almost double the thickness than my 3006.

Goofey recoil pad. I’ve heard they fixed the problem of it going boom when the safety is disengaged. Good for them on the faster twist rate. 90 gr. Accubond is wonderful. Ahh, looks like a whole new trigger system.

700 is a nice looking classic American rifle for sure! I really do hope they are back to quality under the new RemArms company. Personally for hunting I'd most likely put a Meopta Optika5 (2-10X42)on mine simply because they are a better value than a comparable Leupold VX3. Owning and hunting with both brands (Optika5/VX3) I'd choose the Meopta every time. On the other hand if looks are important you just can't beat that gold ring. For rings I'd probably think about a Tally lightweight setup. I like rails but they are not much fun with short action top loading magazines.

@@texpatriot8462 I have 2 Meoptas and 4 Leupold scopes. I completely agree those Meopta scopes are overbuilt for sure. On the glass I'd say the Meopta's I own are much clearer glass edge to edge than my VX2 scopes and equal to the VX3 I own. I guess it's just me but I can't tell the difference (set on 6X) at 30 min past sunset in my Optica5's and my VX3i's. I don't have any of the newest VX3HD scopes to compare. In any case since I can see well before and past legal shooting light with both and the Leupold continues to be $150 more than the comparable Meopta I'm going to stick with my original comment that the Meopta is the better value. Happy Hunting my friend!

@@darrellelliott4052 My favorite scope is my VXi 3.5-10 because it is so light and clear. Basic greatness. Because I had eye issues, I needed a few scopes with more magnification. I went with Meoptas and am very happy with all of them. My favorite is the Meopta Optika6 2.5-15x44 SFP. Now, I buy Leupold when I need to save weight and Meopta when I don't care about weight.

    That’s a beautiful rifle !
So it appears that Ruger is technically the manufacturer now is that correct? They bought out Marlin and Remington ? They’re making some very fine lever action rifles as well !
    I love that 1 in 8” twist , that’s a game changer right there !
I had a Remington model 7 Predator in .243 Winchester, 22” fluted barrel that had a 1 in 9.125” twist ( 9 & 1/8” ) and it was a tack driver with anything from Hornady 75 grain V-max to 100 grain American Whitetail BTSP . Anyhow I love that twist rate .
I’ve been eye balling a Winchester model 70 Featherweight in .243 but after seeing this rifle , I may have to reconsider.
Two things I really like better about this BDL here ( did you say BDL ? Title says CDL ) is the 1 in 8” twist and the safety . I’ve never been a fan of the 3 position wing safety on the Winchester model 70’s , they’re more difficult to manipulate in a hunting environment when trying to disengage it to the firing position.

I own Remington rifles from the time they made the stocks with the bowling pin RK finish. It was glossy with the blued metal. The best quality was during those years. The newer Remington rifles do not use the hot blued finish. If you buy a new blued Smith and Wesson revolver. Don’t use Flitz metal polish. I know Remington was having serious quality control issues. Depending on which make and models. If you are shopping for a good rifle or shotgun. The BDL Deluxe models from Remington are excellent!

I noticed that they don't have any of the brass nails to "fix" bad stocks. That was a pet peeve of mine. For what a 700 used to cost, brass nails were totally unacceptable.
