Ma'am, I hardly ever comment on things, but I *needed* to let you know that I appreciate every single second you put into your videos! I LOVE to watch you cook! Tonight, for the first time making anything using your recipes, I tried this one. Let me tell you... It was AMAZING!!! I used caldo de tomate in place of fresh tomatoes but that was my only deviation. I have never made ANYTHING in my kitchen this good before! I was fourteen when my mother passed away, and I was the baby so I didn't help her cook- only clean up afterward. I didn't get any recipes handed down to me, and when I watch you cook I feel like the way you do it is the same way my mother used to cook. I'm glad I found you here, because you've gained another faithful follower and I simply cant wait to try more and more of your recipes! Thank you SO, SO much!! *edit: we paired the carne guisada with my Mexican rice and our tastebuds went crazy!
My grandma cooked like this too and I loved her food. We didn’t have much but she somehow managed to keep us all fed and this reminds me of her so much.
@@shrtybeebe Caldo de Tomate. It is a tomato bullion, usually found on the Mexican/Ethnic aisle of your grocery store, next to the Caldo de Pollo and other bullions. It is basically dried tomato and chicken stock. Hope this helps. *Edit* I sometimes just use a can of RoTel tomatoes and green chiles.
Made this tonight! My hubby loved it, only difference was I used one can original Rotel (next time I’ll use spicy) and caldo de res. Came out perfecto! Gracias! 🥰
I made this!!! It’s so good!! Thank you. I started and didn’t have flower so I improvised and used a cornstarch slurry at the end instead. Came out really good. Also added bell peppers. I’m sure it’s better with the flower version but it’s amazing nonetheless
I like how you explain the stages of cooking the meat before you do it. I like to know the "whys" of things, or the goal, before I watch the process. I love your style...right to the process, spiced according to taste with your recipe as a guideline, no wasted ingredients, using what you have in your fridge, and of course your voice and how you explain EVERYTHING.
The local carniceria here has inexpensive picado (chopped) beef and it works great if you simmer it long enough. My guisado came out great, very rich and flavorful. Next time, I'm fire-roasting some poblano and other incredible chiles available in California and kicking it off the chart. I used no tomatoes. Started sweating onions in oil then the several ground chile powders and then carne picado. Got all cooked and friendly, all over a medium heat, then added about 1/2 small can of tomato paste. Just let these ingredients meld over some time. When that time hits, all kinda drying out (and never drained any oil or water released) get those dabs of butter in, an equal sprinkling of flour over it all, and a smile! Cook out that flour.... Whole small can of beef broth, bring to roil, set to simmer uncovered....stir, taste, repeat. It was my idea of what local California vegetables and cuts of meat bring a different style that is unique. I let it barely simmer while making a batch of lime/cilantro rice. Kinda bold and then second-guessed myself and realized no going back. I like the Knorr caldo powder instead of the cubes. The lime peel....spring onion......finely-minced garlic......it's just countdown to flavor-town! The saved lime juice at the end and you are done! It worked okay. The lime cilantro rice is really good with a lighter meat, say chicken or shrimps. The shrimps rock with dat rice! This stew was really good and bloomed later. I could keep it "as is", add carrots and potatoes, and it's just another great comfort food. But this just deserves better. Double the amount of chile powders, add some smokey love with chipotles and fire-roasted poblano, serrano, jalepeeener, and the rest! My total cost for ingredients was less than 20 smackers and can feed 4-6, or maybe just one? Or several....a few, yes....a few. Right! Just keep going, some might actually read this.... Thank you for adding more inspiration into something that I find fascinating. WHAT'S in the cupboard and pantry? and create a great meal for your friends and family!
I like to use Masa Flour with this instead of regular Flour. I also serve it with Rice and thick homemade Tortillas(sometimes with Queso Oaxaca inside) to scoop up the Sauce. Also recommended getting the Knoor in Spice containers instead of the Cubes.
@Simply Mamá Cooks My husband from Aguascalientes finalmente bought me your book and I'm living in the kitchen and teaching our 3yr old. Gracias señora Angélica por su libro🌶
I love your channel! Want to thank you for explaining the heat levels thoroughly through out the cooking process for those of us learning to cook. Many chefs assume we novices know heat levels. You are detail and makes it fun to learn to cook! You’re an excellent teacher! Amazing channel, I’m very happy man for your recipes. I’m learning to cook
I fixed this last night and it was wonderful. I couldn’t find the beef shanks but used beef stew meat and lard to brown it in. My wife is still taking about how wonderful it was. Thank you.
I made this last night for my wife and daughter, it tasted Wonderful and so easy to make ! Thank you so much and I will continue to make more of your recipes ☺️

I have lived in Washington state for four years after living in San Antonio for 40. This recipe is yummy and much appreciated. They don’t know what carne guisada is (they think I want carne asada) and I can’t find anyone that sells barbacoa here. I’m going to search through your recipes to get another taste of home😎

Thank you! Yes! When I lived away from home I had to just make it myself. 😬
I’d like to share something with you since youso kindly share these wonderful recipes.. when you want to simmer ... I made a square from a coathanger and place it between the pot and the burner to prevent burning the food to the bottom of the pan. Learned this from my dear mom, and it works well as my wife uses it too! ;-)
I had carne guisada for the first time in my life about 3 months ago at my favorite local Mexican restaurant. I’ve been wondering whether I could try making this at home bc it has become what I order every time I go eat at my favorite Mexican restaurant. Thank you so much bc you have given me what I’ve been wanting! I guess it’s pretty much the Mexican take for beef tips and gravy and I LOVE it! And it’s so much easier than I thought it would be. God bless
im 22 & still learning how to cook, made this for my dad & family for fathers day & they loved it! i used about 5 lbs of the meat tho & still barely had to adjust the seasonings! it was great. thank you!
I’m from San Antonio Tx and this is my favorite dish and I especially love the tacos with carne guisada with cheese❤️. I will definitely try this recipe thank you for sharing this ❤️
I saw this come across my feed again just now. I have to say that I found this video I think about 1 yr after you posted it. This is one of my favorite meals to make. I've made it for family and it's the meal I keep getting asked to make. Its a great dish and recipe! I'm working on figuring out your tortilla recipe as well. I've failed a few times now but still working on it. Thank you for the videos!
Muchas Gracias, Mi Señora and myself take turns cooking dinner. She obviously cooks very well. I am am amateur cook, Pero I used this very recipe and she was so happy . Un million de Gracias y bendiciones.
Texan here that is also half Mexican. I was never taught traditional Mexican dishes but always wanted to know. I am thrilled to have a chance to learn!
I’m loving every recipe I’ve tried so far, I love your videos and you’ve really helped me and my family during this time we are eating at home more than ever before! ❤️
I made this dish today and OMG! 🥰 my first carne guisada that is actually GOOD!! I made it with beef stew so I had to let it simmer for about 30 minutes longer because it was still too tough after the hour. Thank you for sharing!!
I have been making your original carne guisada recipe for my 3 small children and hubby. They love it! I’ve been curious about how to cook with beef shanks for a while. Your cooking is simple and delicious. Thank you for your channel!
Looks very good. I would recommend cooking the beef in smaller batches - especially since you're adding it back in. When the pan is crowded like that it steams insteads of seers the meat.
I love ❤️ how when U cook 👩🍳 You always so easily explain so much of what your doing ☺️I’ve been cooking 🥘 for 45 years , but I have learned so much from You just in the last year 😊👌💕
Mama your recipes and videos are wonderful - you are the only cooking channel I follow ! Keep up the wonderful cooking techniques & great food with everyone ! Thank you very much-
This was a great tutorial. Thank you so much for sharing. I used to watch my Abuela cook for us all the time. This takes me back. My first attempt was ok but I'll keep working on it. Going to the next batch with my Girls to pass on that tradition. Thanks again.
Thank you for this recipe! I ❤️ carne guisada so much! I made this recipe and it is perfect! I cut up a roast into small pieces and I followed your recipe to a tee and I was so happy to have a tender carne guisada. I served it with grated cheddar cheese and your rice and beans. I bought an avocado and some store bought flour tortillas from Walmart. I recommend the Wal-Mart flour tortillas a that are made in the store. They are better than H-E-B. My husband was on cloud nine. We love your recipes!
COOL BREEZE I’m sure it depends on where you live and I’ve noticed that not all Walmart’s in San Antonio carry them. I’m just lucky that my closest Walmart has them. My hubby is picky about his tortillas and these pass his test. We’ve noticed that HEBs tortillas aren’t consistent. Some batches are just not too good. Walmart’s tortillas are consistently good.
ok so im about done with my tex mex and i did it just like you did, accept i could not find the right kind of meat, but i hope it still comes out good, will let you know when it done.thank you for your recipe
This is my husband's favorite dish! I have never made it before and I did not want to mess it up! Your recipe was so helpful and he loved it! Thank you ❤️
Happy Easter. This is the recipe I made yesterday to enjoy today and yesterday😂 I spent 1/2 the amount the restaurant charges and I have sooo much more food to enjoy. Thank you
This is a favorite dish for me and I have to say, that is a good looking carne guisada. Some like it very stew like, but in my opinion, the gravy like consistency is the best. Great job...I'll be trying this recipe. Thank you for the video. 👍🏻👍🏻
I first had this at a small, family owned restaurant in Corpus Christi in like 2005. It seemed so complex and I loved it. I haven't even tried to get it outside of Texas. Your recipe looks like what I enjoyed then. I don't eat meat much anymore but I'll save this recipe just for when I get a craving.
Me and my family luv carne guisada and i know everyone makes it different but i luv ur vidoes of all da recipes u make ur food look so delicious thank u for sharing dis one have a blessed day 🙏❤
Hi Angelica! I just had to tell you how delicious this was. The flavor was just like my favorite taqueria's. I used one box of Mexican seasoned tomato sauce since I didn't have any tomatoes on hand and added a hefty pinch of extra comino, since it is my favorite spice. I cut up a chuck roast and let this simmer for a couple of hours and it was so good it is now my go-to carne guisada recipe. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Just a quick mention for whoever is making this without bouillon: if you substitute beef broth in its place. Make sure to do the step where you add flour and cook it out a bit before adding the broth.
Where do you live? I was priced out of Austin nearly a decade ago, I'm in the north of England now. But not in one of the good cities, nor in a village...wouldn't recommend it! I hate it - the food, people, and lack of culture is horrible! Plus no Haloween decor, clothing, accessories, let alone events, and any sort of crafting - other than card-making - is impossible. Tho the weather is better, for sure.

I love this thank you I also have watched your Mexican rice that your dad made love that as well you make it simple and easy great videos to follow Ill keep watching!!
I just started watching your videos and truly enjoy them and get ideas. Your Carne Guisada is the same as mine with the exception I put the bag in a shaking bag, with spice and add meat to brown easier. This also get to the crusty texture, faster.
And all you need homemade flour tortillas and refried bean that is a great dinner from north Mexico and Sur texas, you abuelita te enseño muy bien reina. Blessings
Second time making it this week and it is so good! Even my 3 year old son loves it and hes so picky😅 except I didn't have beef bouillon so I used chicken bullion, and added cilantro cuz i add it to everything lol thank you for this delicious recipe i cant wait to try it with beef bouillon !😊😊
I don't understand how 337 people could give this recipe a thumbs down! Anyway, I made it. Added some diced potatoes because that's how I like it, and it was awesome! I doubled the recipe and fed 8 hungry Texans. I serviced it with some Spanish rice and tortillas. So good!! Keep up the good work! You are doing great!
Many Latinos add cilantro 🌿 to their beef stew .Maybe they don’t think this is considered carne guisada. I think it looks delicious and deserves a thumbs up even though I’ve never seen cilantro left out of Latin style beef stew.
I prepared this recipe and it is very delicious. I recommend it to everyone. It is one of the best stewed meat recipes. Greetings to all. Thank you for share!!
oh wow,i learned something else besides making a yummy beef stew, and thats using the fat from the marrow,i love this, cant wait to cook this recipe, thank you for sharing
I love Carne Guisada. I watched your video very carefully, but I noticed that it looked real brown when you put it on a plate. It didn't look that brown when you cooked it. My husband and I found a real dive looking Mexican restaurant in Lubbock Texas, but they made the best tasting Carne Guisada in their place. When ever we go back there, its the first place we go to. I begged the cook for the recipe, but he wouldn't give it to me. Next I offered him money. That didn't work either. I then pleaded and cried, had big tears running down my big blue eyes. He just walked away. Just before we left, he came out of the kitchen and gave me his recipe for nothing. I gave him a big kiss and hug and thanked him over and over. But most the time I use Pork and I have a rich brown delicious gravy. I also got a recipe from an old Mexican lady. She made hers a little different, but it was also very good. Next time I will make mine like you did yours. Thank you so much for sharing your recipe with us. Have a safe day.
Saw this recipe today. Looked up your rice made both for dinner. Fantastic thanks for sharing this delicious dinner recipe tonight put a smile on my husbands face. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I've been craving Carne Guisada for weeks and your recipe looks delectable so I'm going to try it! Thanks for sharing, Angelica.
I just started watching your videos and truly enjoy them and get ideas. Your Carne Guisada is the same as mine with the exception I put the bag in a shaking bag, with spice and add meat to brown easier. This also get to the crusty texture, faster.
I made this recipe today and I added 2 jalapeño peppers. It came out delicious. Thank you!
I Actually Followed The Original Carne Guisada Recipe. And My Family Loved It But I'm Gonna Try This One As Well. Thank You 😊

I've tried several recipes from your channel and my family loved them!

Thx for this!! I too am a Texas transplant to Brooklyn and a little home cooked TexMex comfort food is definitely what I need right now. 💕😷
I love your recipes I’ve been a fan of your channel for a few years and I’m always looking forward to what else you can bring to my table Frank Rodriguez El Paso Texas

I will try it my husband been wanting this he's from san antonio so thank u I will try.
Rebecca Barron I’m from SA and moved elsewhere. Guisada is the best thing a San Antonian could eat!!
I made a carne guisada video recently since I love it. Beef shank meat and the bone pulls this up a lot, I’ll try that for sure. The sauce looked fantastic.
Thank you, this is the best video for this dish I’ve found. It looks soooo good!
