I made this stew for my family tonight, and it was absolutely perfect. While it was finishing up, I made some buttermilk biscuits to dip in the stew gravy. It was just the right family meal for a rainy Sunday night.
I love stew, takes me back to when I was a kid in the 60s in England. Beef was very expensive so mum would buy a small amount of cheaper cuts of beef and tons of veggies. Still stick to your ribs good. Also added big fat dumplings. Kept us kids happy.
I made this today step by step and it turned out amazing! It’s not one dish that I’ve made by following your channel that disappoints! Thank you soooo much for helping me to incorporate good and delicious dishes! ❤❤
Made this tonight and it was delicious! Although I mistakenly bought cream of chicken soup and didnt realize until just after I scooped it in haha. Still good! Thanks for sharing!
Lordy. This turned out 🔥. I always make the recipe as written by the author in order to give a proper review. I didn't alter Tammy's recipe in any way. I am so happy to share this beef stew with my sister who is shut in. The seasonings are perfect. The beef is tender and perfect. Each and every layer of flavor in this is stew is perfect. I appreciate the time you took to make this to perfection. When she says use fresh herbs, please listen to her. Please. Fresh herbs are life changing and will elevate even a basic dish but this dish ain't basic y'all. Bravo sis! 🎉
@@sparr5132 I beg you to. If I could post a picture I would. My Mama didn't think she wanted any until she saw my sister's portion. I'll be bringing my Mama some tomorrow child 😂 but after that, everyone else is on their own. You will be so proud of this dish.
I don’t use bouillon or Liptons envelope pkg, both are MSG or something similar (excitotoxins). I don’t use canned soups, again MSG and it’s just a white sauce but with inferior ingredients. I only use part broth as the meat gives beef broth as u make the dish. That much stew meat can make much more stew tho! Add lots veg and more water n lid that pot!
Try this & see if it works for You, take your own spices like, dehydrated onions or garlic etc, & place them in your skillet, on low heat for about 1 minute, it helps them to release more, flavor. So just give it a go, & see if this is something, that You will like to use in your cooking, I learned this trick from the, TH-cam channel ( Chef Ricardo).
I've been making beef stew every couple of weeks this year in a slow cooker, but I've been using the Campbell's beef stew packet and it's just not that good. The potatoes, carrots and beef are always cooked great, but the gray/stew is just off, it doesn't have that homemade flavor. It's kind of gross to be honest, overpowering and tastes fake (if that makes sense). Just saved this and 100% gonna make it like this on Saturday. That's what's up!
Be careful of what you're eating in the stores. Lots of bioengineering foods and they just started adding cricket and other bug shells to the vegan food and Tyson brand chicken.
The pot has too much liquid and those liquid onion soup packs are overpowering it takes away from the natural flavor... still you are Awesome with all of your cooking❤❤
@@audreyjenkins8561 Thanks! I was using the pre-made Campbell's packs, already in a gravy that you put in the pot. I just returned from the market and came back here to watch the recipe as I go along. 😄 Let's goooo!
I will definitely be giving this a try 😊I’ve tried a few other of Tammy recipes and they were hits . One of my favorite meals and I haven’t had it in a while ! Can’t wait 🥄
This looks amazing! I have so many good memories of my mom’s excellent beef stew I enjoyed as a kid, and this reminds me of it a lot! Can’t eat much spicy or hot food anymore, but I definitely “ate,” “smelled,” “tasted” and enjoyed this vicariously watching it with my mind’s eyes! ❤

I love your simple yet hearty recipe! You really do a great job telling us step by step how to make it! Keep up the good work and I can't wait to try it!
I just made this the other day. It's my first time making a beef stew and it turned out great. I halved the ingredients before making, thinking I didn't want to invest in a big meal that I may not like since beef isn't usually my thing. It was GREAT. I didn't have cream of mushroom on hand so I used cream of potato instead. I might be taking this to Thanksgiving or Christmas this year. Gotta show it off to the family.
Omg I’m literally cooking it now only difference is I’m using a crockpot and i marinate lid the meat for 24hrs with fresh garlic, onion, fresh thyme olive oil and a splash of red cooking wine… thank you for teaching me some new tips by adding the mushroom soup and onion soup packet it’s yummy 🤤🤤😃😉💕
The way you say "sawftened" and stew beef. I am convinced you're a Trini-NewYorker ....like me 😂 ... this looks so delicious. Will definitely try this recipe this weekend
I made this for my wifes mom the other day paired with Earl Stevens Selection Function Red wine. It awesome. She loved it so much she let pipe one time. Blame it on the alcohol.

We are huge fans of Beef Stew .. mine that I've been making for 35 years is quite similar to yours ! To be honest I've never used Onion Soup mix or Cream of Mushroom soup in mine and I always put Rutabega in mine .. more carrots and I use Worchestershire Sauce ! I make mine in the Crock Pot after searing my seasoned Beef .. I let that cook a while longer to make it fall apart tender so I can eat it (I have a bit of trouble digesting beef) ! I will try your additions to see how it tastes .. thank you for bringing this iconic American recipe back .. we've all heard and read the stories of how the pioneers always had a pot of stew cooking .. just kept adding to it !
That looks amazing! I usually make mine a little more watery but I will try adding a lil flour next time. Mine usually kinda thickens on its own with a little file powder.
Tucking into mine as we speak, followed your recipe to a tee (apart from couldn't find onion soup so added a bit more onion powder instead), absolutely delicious, thankyou Tammy
Looks so delicious beef stew one of my favorites. I would cook this recipe in a slow cooker since I can keep tasting it until the beef is tender enough. By the way, what cut of beef did you use ??
Thank you Tammy for the cream of mushroom soup tip. I like mushrooms in my stew but never thought of using cream style soup to make it more creamy. Definitely gonna have to give that a try.
