James made some evil plays but I have to admit I would've probably done the same just because I under/overestimate decks I don't know and tend to play spells where they have the most impact. I'm mostly playing mono red, which doesn't help either. In my last game there were two mono red vs greedy-mana Muldrotha and Jodah so naturally I blew up the O-Stone that could've gotten rid of my opponents Blood Moon. I knew they were gonna combo 4 turns later if anything touched the Blood Moon though.
When Adam played Toxic Deluge for 8, people think he made a mistake, he actually outplayed the others and saved himself a life by forcing Ben to ping Multani with the WB to make sure it died. Unintentionally outplayed.
I like the blind commander videos. One of my play groups likes to do deck roulette. That's when each player puts two decks in a pile and assigns them a number, roll a dice and play that corresponding deck.
For all of you complaining that James was picking on Serge and he shouldn't have been doing that, let me tell ya'll a little somethin'. In my neck of the woods, we have a commander rule as the #1 rule in the game. If you have the chance to kill someone, you take it. Every. Single. Time. If he stopped swinging at Serge and started swinging at others, then Serge climbs back into the game with all of his resources and steals the game out of nowhere. How many times have you commander players taken pity on someone who didn't have anything going only to have them pull out a win because no one invested resources into them? If any of you say never, I know for a fact youre lying.
It’s never happened to me because I’m that person who gets pitied on. One time I convinced my friends to ignore me and only go after each other the whole game as long as I didn’t mess with them and one the guy with a very weak lab man deck. It was great.

Sometimes if someone is really far behind it isn't a bad idea to just eliminate them while they aren't a threat. This way its only two other decks you have to worry about, but still, rip serge
James missed the line where he could ghost quarter his own forest to make the plants +3/+3 bigger :( (tap 3 forests for GGG, ghost quarter a land to find an untapped forest, Avenger trigger, tap forest to float GGGG, cast Reclamation, getting back the 8 lands, plus ghost quarter and the other land)
It's Serge's job to get off the ground, not Jame's job to let him. Stomping on the weak link makes games go faster, especially in a format where you may never get that chance again after they take off. I'd rather they got in three rounds than one miserable grind. And LRR has been more than civil towards chat and its patrons for a decade and a half. They're clearly only giving shit to the toxic/unhelpful members of chat, which shouldn't offend you if you're not part of the problem.

I disagree, it is situational. Smashing the weak person in 4 way EDH in the early game can benefit you if you have cards that give you advantage for making easy plays like Edric Turns decks. However, in a game where no one knows what deck they are playing it is more important to make early political alliances that are weak bonds so that you are more likely to feed through your deck to find a gameplan. Political moves in EDH are often really slow, and sometimes it gets boring, but your more likely to win with a strong political advantage than some early game aggression.
It shouldn't change. A hybrid mana card is considered multi colored and triggers based off the colors of it's identity. The only way I would be ok with making hybrid mana count is if they erata hybrid cards to say as it ETB you chose the color of the card. You cant have both a multi colored card that triggers for all it's colors and also say it's mono colored for the sake of commander identity.
So as much as iunderstand having a bunch of instants at your disposal i feel like serge shouldve just avacyned himself against the mono green attack. Also geez James had some nutty turns at the end.
I'm headdesking at Serge missing the color identity thing twice, but I'm laughing at the same time. At least it's with hybrid mana and a color indicator on the reverse of a DFC, both instances where it's easy to forget that just because it could go in a mono-colored 60-card deck, doesn't mean it can go in the same type of Commander decks. Easy mistake, and actually makes things a bit more amusing when you go, "What, again?" Besides, it's REL:Axed. No harm, no foul. Sounds like Twitch Chat needs a better format legality reference than whatever they're using.
Idk if Serge quite grasps the concept of commander as a format yet here. He is still building what seem to be highly competitive lists with pricey cards, but gets creamed by casual creatures with super basic abilities. And so many of them are completely unfamiliar with so much of the banned list, it's kind of painful. Perhaps Wizards should invest in sanctioned EDH events so that judges who focus on other competitive play can be better familiarized with EDH as a format and it would give casual players an actual reason to pay attention to the banned list. This is for Pod commander though, not 1v1 :p
First thing: Serge built his decks out of his highlander cards but he doesn’t play to be overly competitive. They play at a casual/ friendly form so they sometimes take plays to make the game last longer vs just win the game. Second thing: Wizards isn’t in charge of the commander banlist, nor do they care about the format. They make the precons because they sell well, but other than that, they don’t care
You can tell serge doesnt play edh 😂 strip mine should go in every deck because pretty much all the powerful, problematic lands that are played in canlander also see play in edh. Cabal coffers, dark depths, thespians stage, kessig wolf run, glacial chasm, ancient tomb, maze of ith, geas cradle, kor haven. Really the only big one that isnt in the format is tolarian academy
It’s also fun for nobody. I’m never going to spite someone after they miss a land drop to kick them out of the game. It could be useful against Dark Depths or Glacial Chasm. Otherwise, no thanks

Granted, so does Ghost Quarter, Dust Bowl, and actual land hate cards like Vindicate or Beast Within, but when you have players in your group that run Gitrog, Tatyova, or Titania Lands, the extra hate adds up. Glacial Chasm is a real pain in the ass to deal with, especially for aggressive decks without land hate. The key is not to be a dick, but social rules don't exactly translate into game rules for a lot of people.
Yea I’ll play Ghost Quarter all day because it keeps them in line. But destroying basics because they’re down on lands just isn’t my style. I had this game one time where someone used Rite of Replication on Ramunap Excavator, gave everyone one using Zedruu then Armageddon. Best Armageddon I’ve ever seen
Can't even watch the whole video after the way game 1 went, or even after how Serge was taken out with not much of a threat on the table compared to everyone else. I get wanting to play cards and turn creatures sideways but spread it around. Waste of 30 minutes, can't say I would watch another game of commander if the weakest board presence just gets curbed stomped.

My first ever EDH game loss was due to a Markov Vengeance combo. I had just ulted Nissa, Worldwaker and had 40 land creatures. I was one turn off of winning in a 7 man game. It was an awesome way to die.
Did James ever fetch the shadowmoor forest with his fetches? Because if not, he could have gotten that instead of a basic at some point and had one more basic forest in his deck for the last turn of the game
i did not realize that lands was a prison deck in highlander. even so highlander is supposed to be competitive. this is commander a format build on doing stupid broken big things
Commander is not the format for stupid broken things, I would say competitive EDH falls into that category more so than Commander (unless we're talking super friends or GPs). Lands isn't a prison deck because of strip-mine locks, and Serge plays straight up prison decks, not just a lands deck. I would say that Lands is the more fair archetype that Serge plays.

Bad strategy for mono green in this format- it needs some amount of strategic surprise to crush games like Craterhoof, Overrun, Pathbreaker Ibex, and etc. if it doesn't make a strong political ally to buy time.
Game one, Ben shouldn't have played the Trading Post and instead should have spawned two tokens OR spawned a single token and put Sword of Feast and Famine on it for next turn. The next turn he could have spawned three tokens and untapped the vault. Because he played the Trading Post he should have made the goat prior to getting set to 10.

I frankly enjoyed the games, aggresive is more entertaining to me than durdling. And no one realy just sat there without ability to play.

False. The back face of a DFC is also used to determine color identity.
Also, it turned into a link because you forgot to put a space between the period and the beginning of the your second sentence. TH-cam misinterpreted the "You" as a domain.

James Turner is a incredibly important piece of the LRR puzzle and getting him off this channel in any way, shape, or form would seriously hurt us.
Some people might say I'm bias because he's my best friend and they'd probably be right. You don't have to like James, but you do have to think that asking for someone to be removed from a TH-cam channel is incredibly rude and disrespectful. This is a human being with feelings and he gives a lot to this community. So please, Justin, just think about things before you say them.
