It wasn’t an electric blanket. It was an electrical wire systeM Buried under the field. This caused high humidity and when the blanket was pulled off it froze almost instantly.
As one who was an 11-year-old diehard Cowboys fan at the time, I will say without hesitation the Ice Bowl was not rigged. First, this was the coldest game in pro football history, and only a couple of games since then have even approached it. Not even the home team, the Packers, had experience playing football at -15 with a strong wind out of the north. But being the cold-weather team playing at home did give a little bit of a psychological advantage to the Packers over the warm-weather Cowboys. Once the Cowboys, down 14-0, decided to focus on football more than the weather, they dominated the game up until the Packers' final drive. It was a heartbreaking loss. But it wasn't rigged.
As a life long packer fan I find it interesting how we have periods of utter dominance followed by decades of garbage. I’d Love doesn’t work out, history shows it’s going to be a looooong time until we’re good again. At least history also shows the rest of our division won’t take advantage of our down time 🙃
Except that when The Packers were mediocre in the 70's and 80's, they had a different front office structure. After they drafted Tony Mandarich and he was a bust, the people responsible got fired and they changed up the front office structure. As someone who endured those 70's and 80's teams, I don't see them falling that far again for decades.
When you think about it... the difference between favre's first year on the roster to now is the same as the time between his first year on the roster and 1959
My uncle, Robert Kercher, played for the Packers a couple games in 1943/44. I am also a lifelong fan. They still have the most championships, even 1943/44.
Spoken by a person who knows nothing about Vince Lombardi or NFL history. Lombardi was notified the field froze when he arrived. There is so much more to this story
Yes, "iconic." Everything is iconic now. Even if it isn't. And, no, Hayes did NOT keep his hands in his pants on every play. According to the Packers, he kept them in his pants if it was a run. If a pass was called, his hands were out.
probably you could make the case for sure, but lombardi and landry were there for both so I thought that would at least add some points in the ice bowls case.
The only thing I will say about this theory is the fact that the cowboys actually started making a comeback and stopping the packers until the packers final drive.
Cant believe giants were stupid enough to not make at least 1 of these guys they're coach.they paid for this for 20 years. Couldn't happen again could it. Oh giants hired ray handley in 91 and not someone called belicheck when parcels stepped down. doooah.😢
Yeah it was not rigged in the slightest. The weather caused Lombardi’s underground electric cable to heat the field failed in well below sub-zero temperatures. It’s not difficult to see how, especially given that late 1960s technology was nowhere near as advanced as today.
to go the lengTh of the field ,,frozen,, in 30/40 plus below zero wind chill with minutes left in an all or nothing after getting thier ass kicked the majority of the game to score with 8 seconds left ,, that was NOT green bay on the field,,,, that was VINCE LOMBARDIS collective mind set !!!!!ON,,,,,THAT,,, FIELD. COLD,,WIND,,, FROZEN FIELD FOOTING,,,,,,,THE MENTAL TOUGHNESS,,,,,, OVERCOMING ADVERSITY,,, everything that man taught/preached/hammered for damm near ten years was PERSONIFIED/PLAYED OUT ON,,,,,,,, THAT,,,,,,,,,,,, ONE ,,,,,,,,, DRIVE!!!!!!! RIGGED MY ASS🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Just to clarify terminology, "rigged" or "fixed" is when outside or higher parties conspire to make a particular outcome inevitable, such as gambling figures getting players to fail or play poorly, or getting officials to call the game in a biased way. Even if your premise here is true, the term "cheating" is more accurate. A home team creating conditions favorable to the home team has a long, unfortunate history. Each team won only 9 games? That is not impressive at all. The reputation of the teams that year was better than the record. The very next year, the Colts went 13-1 before losing the Super Bowl.
Know the difference between "cheating" and "rigged." What Lombardi did was cheating - rigging would be if the commissioner took the refs aside and said "hey boys, we really want the green and gold playing for us in the AFL-NFL Championship game, make sure that happens." Or if a few of the Cowboys players took some money to throw the game. Breaking the rules to give your team an edge is just cheating.
“Pissed” he feared his creation would end up helping the other team. Could you imagine if the field wasn’t frozen due to Lombardis invention. Packers fans would be blaming that creation for not winning that year. He knew 1 way to avoid that. He was covering his own ass and got lucky by stealing a win too.
I posted this Rich : I saw the game. Both teams played in the same conditions. The 1967 Raiders were 13 - 1. They had the # 1 offense and the #2 defense in the AFL .They outscored their opponents 33.4 to 16.6 that year. The average age of the players was 26.1 . They were destroyed by 19 points by the aging, cheating Packers 33 to 14 in Florida, where the kick-off temperature was 68 degrees. No warming blanket for the crybaby Cowboys. No crying from the floppy eared Cowboy Fan who I doubt was alive when the Cowjokes last won a Super Bowl . I am a Giant Fan , and you sir, are full of donkey dust. Reply
There's a LOT of misstatements here, but afterwards the lead engineer who designed the system said it was only designed to work as low as zero and it was going to have issues below that temperature. When the blanket was pulled back, a layer of dew had formed on the ground and the underside of the blanket, and it instantly froze. Lombardi had no idea this would happen. Someone who wears winter caps at room temperature probably doesn't understand what happens at -13.
This game was not "rigged". Turning off the heat to the field just gave the Packers, if anything, a psychological advantage as they were more used to cold weather. Both teams had to play on the same field. "Rigged" is when you fix it so you know the outcome of the game prior to it being played. See Super Bowl III.
In the 1975, AFC Championship game, the game was played in a Pittsburgh winter game. It is claimed that ground crew watered the side lines. Game time (which I was in the stands for) the side lines were coated with ice. This hurt the Raiders passing game.
I wasn't at this game. But Pittsburgh media all played video of 'Dirt' Dinardo, head groundskeeper at 3Rivers, cheerfully hosing down the Raiders sideline. Hose in hand, big smile on his face. The 2 teams absolutely hated each other, personally and collectively. An awful lot of fans of both teams still do. I still love old 'Dirt' and am glad he did it.
Another fascinating look back…I appreciate you mentioning Lance Rentzel off the field actions. He was married to the talented, incredibly sexy Joey Heatherton but showed his junk to a ten year old after already being busted doing the same thing when on the Vikings…he showed junk to girls, but they reduced his charges, he pled guilty to disorderly conduct, no jail time, just told to see a shrink and got to change location to Dallas. Joey divorced the perv. I wouldn’t put it past Vince Lombardi to unfix the field, my dad was a huge fan of him, his coaching style, and the Packers. As a girl I read Jerry Kramer’s book INSTANT REPLAY-still have the book-which was a diary of the Packers 1967 season. Great book, parts so funny, as you learn the players respected their Coach but were scared of him. Lol. Thanks… In the Ice Bowl, Jerry Kramer cut down Dallas defensive tackle Jethro Pugh at the line of scrimmage which opened the gap where quarterback Bart Starr squeezed through into the Lambeau Field end zone for the winning touchdown with 13 seconds remaining. Lombardi said Kramer was the best guard in football.
If You carefully watch that play, You will notice Kramer started moving before the ball was snapped. Jerry Kramer was 1 of the greatest guards ever. It's a shame he had to wait more than 40 years to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
@helpisontheway9405 I don't know if Howley is in the Hall of Fame. He should be there! Hayes was a blazing fast receiver. His hands were not great. However, he gave defensive coordinators nightmares.
@helpisontheway9405 If Hayes had exceptional hands, he would have had better statistics. He averaged less than 40 receptions per season. He was a world class sprinter with average hands. His problem might have to do with the fact he never played Football regularly until he joined the Cowboys. Landry drafted him because of his world class speed, not because of his football skills. Hayes refined his football skills at the pro level. He wasn't drafted until the 7th. round which indicates he wasn't a great receiver in college.
@helpisontheway9405 You don't know what You're talking about. If Hayes was a great college football player, he would have been drafted before the 7th. round. When a receiver averages less than 40 receptions per season for his career, it indicates he wasn't a reliable receiver. Super Bowl 5 looked rigged to You? Spoken like an idiot who refuses to accept the fact his team got beat fair and square! Your feeble attempt to insult me only proves You can't engage in a meaningful conversation. Now You can continue crying about Super Bowl 5, and stick Your empty head deep inside Your largest orifice, and search for Your comatose brain!
I think you could have done a much more interesting video on Joe Namath and the New York Jets upsetting the heavily favored Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III. Colts defender Bubba Smith is on record as having said some of his teammates gave less than a super effort. More importantly, this was the third year of the post-merger era, and the AFL teams were outclassed so badly in the first two contests that owners were beginning to question whether the original AFL teams were just watering down the sport with inferior talent. The victory by the Jets may have saved the NFL as we know it.
Yeah that might have happened, but it’s important to know that the merger happened in 69 while the merger was in 70, so this game basically caused the merger
Super Bowl 3 was no upset nor was it rigged. The arrogance of the Baltimore Colts cost them the game . They didn’t do any scouting of the New York Jets whatsoever. If they did, they would have known that blitzing Joe Namath was not smart. They also would have known that Don Maynard was not healthy going in the game and Gerry Philbin was going to be a problem on the defensive line. They got outplayed. The main reason for merging the two leagues was rising player salaries. The owners didn’t want to pay more money for players by competing with each other. Having two football drafts was doing exactly that.
Second time in a little over four years the Colts had come into the Big Game completely cocky. I was at the other one: Cleveland 27 Baltimore 0 in 1964. 43 point swing from the thread. Blanton Collier might be the best coach missing from Canton.
From what I’ve read, the AFL was in serious danger of folding if they didn’t win Super Bowl III, as they were beaten so badly in the first two Super Bowls that both the public and investors were losing interest and willing to take their money elsewhere.
As the Colts were the overwhelming favorite to win, it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to believe that interested parties would approach a handful of Colts, and toss a few dollars at them to turn the wrong way, get off the ball a split-second too late, drop passes on key plays, etc.
As a lifelong Cowboys fan, I love this theory video. However, I don't believe it was a rigged game. This game occurred a little more than 3 years before I was born I do have a few points to mention about NFL games being rigged. 1. Packers legend Jim Taylor admitted in his (auto?)biography he was offsides on the play. 2. While this might have been the first game where a team deliberately messed the field up due to the weather, it definitely wan't the last. The Steelers did something similar in one of their AFC Championship games(may have been the 72 playoff game vs the Raiders best known for the "Immaculate Reception). 3. This was somewhat of a common occurrence through at least 1980. The home team back then often hadbheaters on the sideline to help the players stay warm while they didn't allow the visiting team the same luxury(most ntably the "80 NFC Championship game between the Eagles and Cowboys).
jim taylor didnt play in the ice bowl he was in new orleans watching the game ice bowl! if you know the facts before commenting you would know that jim taylor left the packers after super bowl 1 to play for the saints
I remember that game vividly, and I could not understand why the NFL bosses did not postpone it. However, one can see Lombardi's tactics. He figured the Packers were far more acclimatized to those horrible weather conditions. Big advantage for the Packers.
Bill Belichick did something similar in the 2003 AFC Championship in Foxboro. Manipulating the heating system on and off until he got the desired field conditions he wanted. That’s just part of having the home field “advantage”.
Is that all he did compared with the NFL does today with the entire league. All he was doing was trying to give his team the most advantage that he could like anybody would
Assuming Lombardi screwed up the playing conditions for the Cowboys, he also screwed up the field for the Packers. His team while older, had much more experience and mental toughness.
Seriously? Both teams played on the same field. The Cowboys scored ten points on Packers fumbles. And then there was the halfback option from Dan Reeves to Lance Rentzel in the third quarter that went for a touchdown. And even though the Packers started fast, the Cowboys were ahead after that TD. It was then that Bart Starr brought greatness to Green Bay, by engineering a long drive with a masterful mixture of short passes and runs. And it was (according to legend) Starr's idea to do a QB sneak, because the running backs couldn't get a good enough grip on the icy ground. Was Jerry Kramer off side on his legendary block of Jethro Pugh? The broadcast at the time is still unclear. And Chuck Mercein, who caught a pass and ran the ball to within inches of the goal line? He is pictured as holding his arms up as if he is signaling a TD. Instead, as Mercein later explained, he didn't want to even give a hint that he had helped Starr into the end zone, so he threw up his arms to indicate he wasn't aiding the QB. So, the league gave the game to the Packers? Even though they dismantled the Raiders in the SB? And, of course, Lombardi became the Packers GM the next year, before moving on to Washington, before succumbing to stomach cancer. And how exactly did Mr. Pugh know "the machine" was turned off? Because, according to others, the tarp on the field caused more problems than solutions, creating a thermal barrier where the warm air was trapped between the ground and the tarp. Roll back the tarp, and the dampness from the trapped heat turned to ice. Maybe this was just another part of Lombardi's fiendish plan. Besides, we all know that, indeed, Lombardi practiced the "dark arts" and caused the weather to turn so cold overnight. Try again, because this has all the credibility of lizard monsters actually ruling the world. Or perhaps, slightly less.

Yeah, so he turned off the field warmer...that didnt have nearly as big an effect on the game as you made it out to be. I definitely wouldnt call it, "rigging the game" If the field was warm, the cowboys wouldn't have simply won the game, the packers would have rather played on a warm field too.
The last super bowl was thrown. A stadium on the desert, with a roof, with two weeks to get ready, was flooded? All to slow down the historic eagles pass rush because the NFL new golden boy was hurt. They need a new Brady. Why did the eagles all have to change their cleats. Why didn't a single chief?
I promise you 57 was rigged. The field manager was a decades worker for kc stadium. He is 94. And this is all fact you can look up. And they still should have won. But that flag at the end put a stop to that
Doug Peterson held his REAL practices in Minneapolis in 2017 inside a hotel ballroom. He held fake practices in the dome. He knew after the eagles first super bowl with new england was known as part of spygate. And the eagles lost by a lousy 3. Doug fluty came out and said he accidentally picked up Brady's helmet and it didn't shut off at the time that it was supposed too. Flutie was stunned. Their linebacker said an HR before each game. They'd have a paper taped to their locker telling their plays. They'd know their opponents plays. This is how they cheated, and many more ways over their long run. Brady did all little things to get edges other qbs didn't have. Air otta the all, yeah that helps, grab a big fully blown up ball try to throw it, now let some air out and see the amount of control you gain. So Pederson let them film fake practices, and they were up 22 12 at the half. They won the game right there. The eagles of 2017 were too good to overcome a 10 point deficit. Even though they did, the eagles were gonna score, they did, and won 41 33. Find a cheating QB belicheat bc your methods won't work without a cheating QB. And Andy Reid, all those ppl that called you a fat slob, and I picked up for you, your time management was terrible I picked up for you, I ain't picking up for a cheater. Your team took that advantage of a flooded field in the desert, in a roofed stadium, how'd all your players just know to have mud cleats on in a desert stadium but not one eagle did. Howd every eagle have to change their cleats but not one chief. Howd a chief fan get to handle the field operations, a decades long chief field manager who is 94 and ready to die, nothing to lose? I won't pick up for you anymore and goodell, you're as impotent as ever.go crawl in a fuckin hole you piece of trash.
It's conceivable that Lombardi pulled the plug on the warming blanket, but both teams had to play on the same field. This is the essence of " home field advantage".
Lombardi didn't want his field to be frozen bro.....he was as shocked as everyone. If you want a conspiracy field game, look at 1981-2 AFC Championship game in Miami. Jets coaches accused Shula of watering down the field even more before the game.
On the final quarterback sneak touchdown it has been said that guard Jerry Kramer who Bart Starr followed into the end zone was offside because he jumped just before the snap of the football.
@@jgorman515 nonsense, even if he did say it. here on youtube you can see for yourself a stop camera replay clearly showing it. but it was a split second
I watched that game , and I have bet football for over 50 years. That game was NOT rigged . The best way to rig a game is TO BUY AN OFFICIAL TO THROW THE HOLDING FLAG on a key play or two or BRIBE A PLAYER. This type of GAMEMANSHIP is still going on today ! How about New ENGLAND and the SNOW PLOW ? I see this in every sport and it is called HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE ! You can see it in BASEBALL all the time . Both teams played on the field ! Oh , and the SUPER BOWL was not called THE SUPER BOWL back then , and no one even cared about it . Back then the NFL CHAMPIONSHIP was far more important , The AFL was considered a minor league until SUPER BOWL 3 and the JETS humiliating the 18 point favorite COLTS. This is total MOUTHWASH !
Me: *Dies God: Welcome to heaven!! Me: WOW!! I wonder what football players are here. Me: Hello Tyreek Hill, hello Farve, hello- Me: Wait, wheres Limbarde. You know, the guy named before the trophy? God: First off, hes not a player. Second of off hes in h**.
I don't mean to call this into question and risk becoming called a Packers fan, but there are about five major flaws with your whole video. #1. You're suggesting that Lombardi made sure the game was played in Green Bay, like he had some say in it. Everyone knew the homefield advantage rotated between the two divisions each year. It was well known that the winner of the Packers division would be the home team. And for proof all you have to do is remember the year before the title game was played in the Cotton Bowl. I know Texas is a little behind the times but I'm pretty sure they even had schedules back then and they just look at if they got confused. #2. You suggest that because he hinted at the machine breaking down in an interview that this is somehow proof of it being deliberately broken. As if Lombardi would mention his plan on national TV a few weeks before his master plot. Lombardi was many things, a blabbermouth was not one of them. #3.) You hinge the entire argument on the fact that the game was somehow rigged on this one possibility. Rigged implies nothing is left to chance. His team could have just as likely gone out and got beaten in those conditions. The simple fact is if the Cowboys knew they were playing outdoors in Green Bay, Wisconsin in January, and they didn't plan on it being cold then they are a pack of window-licking, short-bus all-stars. That's not rigged, that is just poor planning (to understate it). #4. You say the system had worked well in all the games leading up to this game. Yes, they weren't dealing with -14⁰ in those games. The system broke because it was so cold it actually broke the system. You're laying a serious accusation on here and if that's all you have as "proof", I think you owe the Lombardi Family an apology. That's a horrible thing to imply with such scant evidence, my guy. #5.) Go back and watch the footage of Bob Hayes. He was nullified in the game because if he was running routes his hands would be out and ready, and tucked in if not. That's not proof of anything (except that you didn't even watch the footage of the game before commenting on it...that and that Bob Hayes is overrated and probably not a Hall of Famer in my eyes). Again, if he didn't know how to get dressed in cold weather so his little hands were warm, then he's a moron. He's a 30 year old grown man. That's a disgrace to all men named Bob. Fun fact to end on: the idea cold weather city teams know how to win in the cold is statistically invalid. There is no proof that cold weather has deleterious effects on one side winning or that other teams just "know how to win in the cold".
I find your vids entertaining, but for your postulation that the game was rigged, I'd like to use a colloquialism from one Sherman T. Potter. "Horse hockey."

A bit of stretch. The system broke down during the evening because the temperature dropped about 30 degrees in a few hours. This was the late 60’s and these technologies were fairly new.
Hey tubfrog. Do a video on how the super bowl in the desert with a roof, had a flooded field. Thwn every single eagle player had ro change ro mud cleats, yet the chiefs didnt change one shoe. Oh and the field manager workwd in kc for decades, as a chiefs fan 94 years old and they had two weeks to have just a dey field. No the eagles historic pass rush xould not get off the line. As far as belichek goes, the 2004 super bowl season played in 05, he was already at it. In 2017 Doug Peterson ran their real practices in a hotel ball room. Then ran fake practices so they could cheat and film the B's. It worked. 0 and 3 in the last 3 pats vs the NFC east super bowls liveand learn. And. Andy Reid. As a former admirer from Philly, you're no better. All you have to do is look up the facts, it was thrown. And they still almost beat the chiefs Clearly the better team, they were ripped and it was known by the NFL, the chiefs, and the field crew
As a young Wisconsin boy the Packer's out lasted the cowboys The texas crew was freezing there balls off and couldn't get the job done Packer's Championship
An absurd video. The electric blanket had very little to do with it. On the winning touchdown play, with time running out, Packers' Jerry Kramer jumped the snap and made a block which enabled Bart Starr to score, but the officials missed the offsides. The ball should have been pushed back to the 6-yard line. Green Bay still may have won of course, but this error by the officials definitely had more to do with the Cowboys losing than the blanket.
Well, as a Packer fan and a historian of football and sports history. If you would have mentioned the 65 tiebreaker game against Baltimore to see who plays the Cleveland Browns in the championship. I might have taken you more seriously. Because at the end of regulation, the packers missed the field goal, and the refs called it good to send the game into over time. That's the game. You should be talking about . I'm not sure if it was a rogue referee or the NFL who rigged that game.
On the film, you can see kicker Don Chandler drop his head because he thought he missed it, but referee Jim Tunney called it good. That led to the NFL increasing the height of the uprights because it wasn't that unusual for an attempted field goal to be higher than the uprights. That was the case with the controversial field in the closing minutes of the 1965 Western Conference tiebreaker; it was higher than the uprights but near enough to the one on the right that the officials had to make a judgment call.

Look it up NFL does not call themselves a sport but “entertainment” which by law means they can pick & make win whoever they want because it’s “entertainment” the refs are paid by the league to make calls favoring the teams they are told to carry. Just like WWE & WWF. I CANT & WONT WATCH PRO SPORTS BECAUSE THE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS THEY GET PAID A YEAR FOR PLAYING A GAME MAKES ME WANT TO THROW UP. THEY SHOULD BE PAYING OUR SERVICE MEN & WOMAN SO MUCH MORE MONEY THAN WHAT THEYRE MAKING BECAUSE FOR THEM ITS LIFE & DEATH ON A DAILY BASIS. i enjoy sports being played at all school levels , high school & college level because it’s much more fun & I have much more respect for them.
I was 14 years old and remember well this game being played. As young as I was, I always rooted for the champions and so the Green Bay Packers were my favorite team back in 1967. That changed over the years and living in Texas for several years I converted into being a Dallas Cowboys fan and the Cowboys have been my favorite team since 1969. Before watching this video I heard from diehard Cowbys fans that the game was rigged and so I wanted to watch this video to see if there was proof. Although I was a Packers fan when this game was played, I also remember sincerely feeling sorry the Cowboys lost this game. I do remember that the Packers lost a few regular season games that should have been won. After watching your video, the following conclusions were reached: 1. The game was not rigged; 2. If the game was played under normal Green Bay weather and not a frozen field, the Cowboys would have won the game. In 1972, Don Meredith was interviewed by a magazine and he stated in 1966 the Packers were the better team, but in 1967 the Cowboys should have won easily. Meredith stated the Cowboys ran many outside swing plays which depended on players needing to switch directions - and that could not be done in the Ice Bowl - which enabled the Packers to win.

As a bears fan i will accept this uncritically from the Packers

When you first teased a video about an iconic NFL game being rigged I thought this was gonna be about Super Bowl III.
Same here. I always wondered if it (SB III) was rigged.
Superbowl lll was the Jets vs the Colts. The Packers won SB l in Jan 67 and SB ll in Jan 68.
Only idiots think Super Bowl III was rigged!
That was actually an AFL-NFL game.
@@orbyfanthe last official AFL championship game was when the Chiefs beat the Raiders in '69 then KC went on to beat the Vikings in SB IV
Lombardi did not retire, He resigned and went to the Redskins.
Spoken by a person who knows nothing about Vince Lombardi or NFL history. Lombardi was notified the field froze when he arrived. There is so much more to this story
Two things: Cowboys were not legendary. They were a young upstart team. Second it was too cold to be involved in a rigged game.
The NFL is showing TV commercials admitting they are scripted. Going head to head with WWE
Yes, "iconic." Everything is iconic now. Even if it isn't.
And, no, Hayes did NOT keep his hands in his pants on every play. According to the Packers, he kept them in his pants if it was a run.
If a pass was called, his hands were out.
0:26 wouldn’t the ‘58 championship game be the most iconic though
probably you could make the case for sure, but lombardi and landry were there for both so I thought that would at least add some points in the ice bowls case.
@@tubfrogthe most iconic football title game, it was the first time it was televised nationally and it went into overtime 1958
My dad was at the game. He loved it and wore it as a badge of being a Packer's fan.
The only thing I will say about this theory is the fact that the cowboys actually started making a comeback and stopping the packers until the packers final drive.

At this point, that Brady pic is going to be sentient in two weeks. 😱
Yeah it was not rigged in the slightest. The weather caused Lombardi’s underground electric cable to heat the field failed in well below sub-zero temperatures. It’s not difficult to see how, especially given that late 1960s technology was nowhere near as advanced as today.

The problem here is the Packers had to play in the same conditions
They probably wouldn't play that game today or they'd move it. Also fwiw Dez Bryant caught that ball.
Not rigged. Lombardi was pissed that the field froze. Packers had to play on that field as well.

All I can say is BOTH teams played on the same field, and IF the Cowboys were so much younger and better how did they lose?
Weather conditions.
San Diego Chargers had to play in Cincinnati at -40 windchill temperature for 1982 AFC championship game
You shoulda let them borrow some of your salt to melt the ice.
The side lines were white with ice.

Lol. Thanks…
In the Ice Bowl, Jerry Kramer cut down Dallas defensive tackle Jethro Pugh at the line of scrimmage which opened the gap where quarterback Bart Starr squeezed through into the Lambeau Field end zone for the winning touchdown with 13 seconds remaining.
@helpisontheway9405 It's a crime that Howley had to wait more than 50 years. I saw Hayes' entire career. His hands were not not great.
Super Bowl III would be a great video as a rigged game. I have felt that was always fixed.
Total BS! Both teams had to play on the same field.
Right guard Jerry Kramer moved early before the snap as Starr snuck over the line. Refs should have penalized GB and moved the ball back 5 yards.
Yes Kramer did move before the snap. It wasn't the first or the last time refs missed a penalty.
And don't forget the false start not called on that 3rd and 1 play.
@user-nz9wr7nk2n then my friend who is a diehard Packers fan was wrong. Maybe it was a different player.
This sounds like a upset Cowboy fan to me. Poor thing.
Lombardi shoulda won one in DC but he got cancer
I remember that game vividly, and I could not understand why the NFL bosses did not postpone it. However, one can see Lombardi's tactics. He figured the Packers were far more acclimatized to those horrible weather conditions. Big advantage for the Packers.
Gotta go with Al Davis " just Win baby".
Bill Belichick did something similar in the 2003 AFC Championship in Foxboro. Manipulating the heating system on and off until he got the desired field conditions he wanted. That’s just part of having the home field “advantage”.
The Giants could’ve had Lombardi or Landry and got neither, spending the 60s and 70s in obscurity
I've seen a few unique calls involving green bay (1965 playoffs) but this is the dopiest thing I've seen
TubFrog is a straight OG. Some of the best NFL content. Single vs. singular though, young fella
To think they wouldn't have won the Super Bowl against KC if they're hung over wide receiver hadn't had an MVP type game.
A lot more facts, and a lot more accurate in this comment, than in the entire video

Yeah, so he turned off the field warmer...that didnt have nearly as big an effect on the game as you made it out to be. I definitely wouldnt call it, "rigging the game"
If the field was warm, the cowboys wouldn't have simply won the game, the packers would have rather played on a warm field too.
Temperatures dropped the night before. Dallas lost on the last play. Not rigged at all. Super Bowl 3 possibly
More technology like magnet gloves/balls/goal posts etc etc etc ...
Let it go the Packers won the damn game THE ICE BOWL pretty sad when someone has a grudge after 56 years
Watched this game in the lobby of the Adolphus Hotel in Dallas a day or so before the Fightin' Texas Aggies beat Bama and The Bear in the Cotton Bowl.
This might be the first NFL conspiracy of a game being rigged I actually believe
But that flag at the end put a stop to that
The first?
You've never heard Brian Tuohy explain why and how they are rigged then ?
It's conceivable that Lombardi pulled the plug on the warming blanket, but both teams had to play on the same field.
This is the essence of " home field advantage".
Your theory is wrong. Also making comments on a players off the field problems which has no factor on this game is wrong.
Lombardi didn't want his field to be frozen bro.....he was as shocked as everyone. If you want a conspiracy field game, look at 1981-2 AFC Championship game in Miami. Jets coaches accused Shula of watering down the field even more before the game.

he was the greatest coach ever left to soon
In his own mind too
Bob Hayes took his hands out of his pants on plays when he was the intended receiver.
Typical Cowboys fan rhetoric - “if things were different we would’ve crushed them!” 🤦♂️

A bit of stretch. The system broke down during the evening because the temperature dropped about 30 degrees in a few hours. This was the late 60’s and these technologies were fairly new.
This seems a little far fetched for me, I don't think the game was rigged.

And they still almost beat the chiefs
Clearly the better team, they were ripped and it was known by the NFL, the chiefs, and the field crew
As a Wisconsinite, The myth is Lombardi pulled the plug himself as he left late when everyone else had left😂
NFL is fully scripted today
I’ve had to do pep band at a game in below 0 weather. All of the instruments froze and when we went to play ice shot out of them
Well, as a Packer fan and a historian of football and sports history.
Erick, I posted this : I saw the game. Both teams played in the same conditions. The 1967 Raiders were 13 - 1. They had the # 1 offense and the #2 defense in the AFL . They outscored their opponents 33.4 to 16.6 that year.

@theimp5901 So if that's what you think, I'm pretty sure you posted something about Super Bowl 3 When the dominant 13/1 Colts lost to the upstart new york jets from the a f l I'm pretty sure in your mind that game was rigged The packers dominated the 1960s in the n f l this game was not rigged Lombardi's players knew this was probably his last game The raiders were in over their head I think in Super Bowl 2. There were at least eight hall -of -famers on the Packers roster (stop it)
@@erickthefantabulous1 I think we're on the same side Erick. I replied that to the original poster . That Packer team and Lombardi were tremendous .Loaded with HOF guys. I never thought the Jets game was rigged , but as I think about it ? Maybe ? I was reacting to the lack of respect when TuBfrog suggested that Dallas would have beaten the Pack except for the " cheating " - which I called him out on as BS in my post. I posted that to you in support of the Pack and their great legacy, who are my second favorite NFC team , after my Giants.
@theimp5901 All right, I guess that was a misunderstanding & Cowboys fans out there, dallas Was considered chokers until they finally broke through against the dolphins in 71
I like your work. But no way on this. There is plenty of NFL stories , you don't need to make something out of nothing.
I wonder if the electric blanket was ever checked to see if it malfunctioned
Exactly the kind of thing obsessed Lombardi would have done 🤔
FYI...as a studio musician, a popper-stopper is ONLY needed when directing vocal pressure directly in the direction of the mic within 3 - 6 inches. So yea, your cool for needlessly using it.
Joe Montana thinks Bart Starr is clutch.
