Who Won The HARDEST Super Bowl In NFL History?

  • So I was wondering, which NFL teams overcame the most enormous odds and won the hardest super bowl in NFL history? Well, I crunched some numbers and found the NFL team that won the hardest super bowl ever. Anyway, if you enjoyed this video, then like and comment if you want, and you can even subscribe if you think I've earned it.
    Tom Brady has a ton of the best super bowl moments and even had some crazy NFL highlights that made the cut for this video. Who would have thought that the super bowl predictions for super bowl 57 would not have any of these teams in it? The super bowl MVP and NFL MVP are usually on the same team, and ding productions have already made a video on the biggest NFL super bowl in NFL history.

    I have tons of respect and credit for Eli. I'm an Eagles fan and even though he only beat The Eagles under 7 or 8 times in his career; he won a lot of games no one thought he should and had a quick, accurate release and never got rattled. I think the 2012 Ravens deserve a shout for this as their Super Bowl run was marked by tough matchups against prime Andrew Luck, playing against Manning and Brady away, and defeating a tough 49ers squad with Flacco scoring 11 TDs and no interceptions throughout the run. The mile high miracle against the Broncos and the AFC championship rematch against the Patriots showed their great perseverance through those tough opponents

    I lived in Colorado in 1998 and Seattle in 2013 so I saw pretty much all their games in both those seasons. Despite the fact I have always hated the Broncos and especially John Elway, I will, without hesitation, call that 1998 team one of the best I've ever seen. They were a freaking juggernaut and often had games won by the end of the 1st quarter. Hell, Bubby Brister started a few games and they still were unstoppable. We were cheated of potentially the greatest super bowl ever by the Vikings forgetting to finish the NFC championship game.
    Seattle's 2013 team was also damned good. People talk about the Legion of Boom, but this was the point where Wilson, who was once a great quarterback, had found his NFL game and was kick-ass all year long. The offense clicked. Golden Tate had to take on a #1 receiver role and balled out. Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse were integral pieces in making plays happen when needed. That bomb in the NFC game to Kearse was the moment we all knew Wilson had arrived. I would also argue that the 2013 Seahawks were one of the all time best teams.

    • @tubfrog
      @tubfrog  ปีที่แล้ว +56

      No because if a team plays 4 teams then you divide the teams srs scores by 4, but if they play 3 teams then you divide it by 3 so there’s no advantage. Obviously an SRS score doesn’t measure how good a team is, but I thought it would be fun to use statistics to see at who had to play the hardest teams

    • @CRMdrifter
      @CRMdrifter ปีที่แล้ว +47

      @@tubfrog No I understand that. I'm just saying that the average SRS score (or an average of anything for that matter) doesn't show the fact that 4 games is simply harder to win than 3 most of the time. Say a team had to win 4 games all against teams with an SRS score of 4, and another team had to win 3 games against teams all with an SRS score of 5, the average SRS score would say that the second team would have it harder (even though the total would be lower making it debatable) simply because an average reflects 100% quality and 0% quantity.

    The 2005 Steelers should’ve been a top 3. Considering they were 7-5 through 12 games, they NEEDED to win out+get help just in order to clinch the 6 seed.
    Once there, they beat the 3 seed Bengals In Cincinnati. Then they beat a heavily favored 14-2 Colts in Indy ( most analysts had them winning the Super Bowl, especially after New England got knocked out) Then the Steelers beat the 2 seed Broncos in Denver in the AFC Championship game. They proceeded to the Super Bowl and beat the number 1 seed Seattle Seahawks with the leagues best offense, and the league MVP Shaun Alexander.
    I think is one of the most impressive runs considering how the Steelers had virtually no shot to make the postseason during the last month of 2005. Once they got in, they were underdogs every game, and they became the first team in postseason history to beat the 1, 2, and 3 seeds in the playoff bracket , all in one go. First team to win 3 road playoff games in one go. And they were the first team to be a 6 seed team and win the Super Bowl. Plus that Steelers team had a pretty meh offense and a good, but not great defense.
    I think it was a damn impressive run and certainly a very tough run considering the factors and variables that came into the picture. 2005 Steelers should be top 3 atleast

    I wouldn't call the Giants SRS score juiced. They had to play the 1st, 3rd, and 4th best teams by SRS that year and before those 3 games they had to beat the 3rd best defense in the NFL. Further, they had to play every game on the road which means playing at Lambeau in 30 below freezing for the NFC title game. The other three teams got to play their pre-SB games at home. I think this proves the Giants had objectively the hardest path ever.

    Well, the LOB actually had 13 players pop for PED's and even as I watched the game, they would get away with a lot of DPI and holding on offense. That, and the 49ers game was rigged. There were multiple possessions where penalties were missed that would've swung possessions in the 49ers favor, like the roughing the kicker, DPI again, and more uncalled holding for the Seahawks. They were talented and definitely steam rolled teams, but they juiced so it drops the respect meter for me. Same goes for any 70's steelers rings

    I agree that it's hard to tell the WHOLE story. Think of those one-ring-only teams. They often don't have these long dynasties, "prestige" or other non-statistic places. Having more road games is also an excellent measurement. I love that there's a lot of story telling to be had in these history games, it really adds to the allure of this form of entertainment.

    I find interesting that only 3 of the top 10 teams on the list of hardest superbowl winners are NFC teams. This implies that the path to the superbowl through the playoff is harder for AFC teams because there are more diificult teams on the AFC side to face in the playoffs with higher average SRS. This is even more supported when you consider that two of the NFC teams in the top 10 are the giants teams who faced the patriots in the superbowl and the patriots extremely high SRS both times probably significantly weighted the giants final average opponent SRS.

    • @tuckerderrick8741
      @tuckerderrick8741 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think this stems from the fact that historically the NFC is usually more balanced out and the AFC has been top heavy, meaning the AFC teams usually have higher SRS's from the regular season. Also there are 4 NFC teams in the top 10, the '92 Cowboys are at 7.

    • @d00d22
      @d00d22 ปีที่แล้ว

      The AFC is a much easier conference than the NFC. for literally 2 decades every year they sent either tom brady, peyton or rothlisberger to the super bowl. the worst teams are in the AFC the worst division is in the AFC. the all time win loss of AFC teams playing against NFC is below 500. In the 80s the AFC lost the super bowl 13 times in a row. In the 60s the NFL stole all the top talent for the AFL which is why the colts, packers, cowboys were the only true professional teams-- AFC teams in the 60s were like college teams

They are concrete. So whether you take this list as a standalone gospel and quote it, or use it as a basis to put perspective on your own analysis, it is a very useful compiling of data that makes for a very well put together video.

      Umm, no. 2017 Eagles were the NFC's top seed with a first-round bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. And held that great aging Patriots team to 33 points.
      The wildcard 2007 Giants played every game on the road and beat the #4-seed (at Tampa), #1-seed (at Dallas) and #2-seed (at Green Bay in -23 degree weather). Then they beat the 18-0 Patriot juggernaut - holding them to 14 points.
      The wildcard road warrior Giants (10-1 on the road that year) had an infinitely tougher road to their Super Bowl than the #1-seed 2017 Eagles.

  • @52flyingbicycles

    The hardest Super Bowl I could design would be a 7 seed beating the 4 best teams in the league in close games. 2nd seed in the wild card, 1st seed in the divisional, 3rd seed/5th seed (depending on division locations) in the CC, 1st seed in the Super Bowl.
    So in our year, it would be the Lions beating the 49ers, Eagles, Cowboys, then the Chiefs for a ring. Winning all close games where they’d probably be big underdogs.
    Bonus points if the 4 teams were extremely talented relative to other years. So you’d be the regular season runt in a top heavy conference, then face down the undisputed best team in the other conference in the Super Bowl.
    Ironically close games are more difficult than blowouts, since in blowouts you are supposed to take the foot off the gas and play conservative to finish. If the game is a brawl from kickoff to 0:00, you have to play extremely aggressive the whole time, which is more difficult.

    I wonder how you would go about ranking the best teams to win a Superbowl. Would you have to look at their SRS score in comparison with their win percentage on the season? Or would their be other factors.
    Like would the 76' Raiders be a better team than the 04' Patriots because they had a better SRS average and a better win percentage? Or would you consider the 13' Seahawks a better team than the 16' Patriots despite the fact that the Patriots had a better win percentage only because the 13' Seahawks had a better SRS average.

    I’ve always felt that the 2008 Steelers were one of the biggest SB winner question marks. First off, as Barry McCockiner has repeatedly brought up, Pittsburgh never beat Brady’s Pats in the playoffs and they didn’t have to play him that year. But beside that, they actually didn’t beat a single first-round bye team that entire year, not even in the playoffs. It’s taking nothing away from the Cardinals for getting to the Super Bowl that year, but they only had a 9-7 record. To me, that’s not enough of a challenge to prove yourself as the undoubted best team of the year.

      @@bp4016 I’m just saying that to me, they didn’t face as much of a challenge as they could have. The Cardinals’ defense was among the worst in the league that year, and a much better one may have prevented that game-winning drive. Think about the AFC Championship game: the Ravens had a great defense too and only allowed Pittsburgh’s offense to score one touchdown. The game was close the entire time, and it was Polamalu who had to step up and make the play to shift the tide. Yes, they handled the competition they faced, but they did get somewhat fortunate while doing it.
