    Very original concept snowflake. You may also want to look into adding the points one at a time and growing them untill they hit the closest thing to where you spawned it at. You wont be able to feed it an exact point cloud, but you can use it to create a point cloud that will give scales that don't overlap. Just give each point a random max grow factor, and if it colides with the closest thing to it's spawn location first set that to it's scale attribute. Was able to pull it off in lw with particles, points and a trigger set up, but I would imagine it would be much more elegant solution in Houdini. If you look on TH-cam there is a processing tutorial that shows how to do it with code.
