    *I love the fact that you understand your historical and genetic roots, and embrace your genetic backgrounds "equally". I wish all Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, and Cubans had your attitude. I CAN'T STAND the ones who try to specifically deny their African ancestry and shove that part under the rug. (We need to stop the colorism hangups left over from the colonial days. In the future they may be able to distinguish groups as their reference pool grows. In the past african estimates were very broad and vague as the genetic information these companies had compiled was limited, now those results are becoming more specific and more accurate. Hopefully the same will happen for native american DNA (Native american including all of north, south, central america and the caribbean)

      Ramakrishna Shalom Also, it’s important to note that Africans were mixing DNA between ourselves on the African continent and beyond it at least 200,000 years ago. At that point in human history Europeans hadn’t even evolved from their African ancestors yet. They weren’t in existence. An excellent book on this topic is The Journey of Man by Spencer Wells the prominent geneticist from Harvard University.

      They don't want to credit Latin American, Native Americans with any other identity but BROWN. Black Latinos are also supposed to call themselves BROWN. White Latinos are expected to see themselves as BROWN. Only the ones found in the USA who are of non-Latino culture are granted the right to call themselves white, black, or Native American. It is a very racist policy.

    I was excited for your results! I actually did both ancestry and 23andMe and I find that ancestry is way more accurate but 23andMe is getting there! 😁, also boricuas actually have a lower percentage of indigenous heritage compared to other Latino people due to the fact that Taínos died out very fast when compared to other native peoples in Latin America. On average boricuas have about 14-18 percent of Taino/Arawak blood In us and taínos also inhabited Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, DR, Guyana, and northern Venezuela.

      Latinos really pick up on my black foot features. It's so close to Taino that they think I'm passing for American and denying being Latin. I'm used to it in Miami and New York, but when I went to Grenada where my ex-husband is from... the Venezuelans also assumed that I was one of them. To me, it's just the commonality of what Aboriginal people looked like and the Western Hemisphere.

      @@ib3scope You are wrong. 90% of the African slave trade went to Latin America with almost half of that to South America. South America has the largest proportion of people of African ancestry in the Americas, not the Caribbean. Also, many places where people consider themselves mestizo are actually triracial. The average person from El Salvador, for example, is about 10%-15% African, even though this is not always acknowledged. There are even large pockets of people of African ancestry in Mexico, especially in Veracruz and Guerrero. La Bamba was an African slave song. DNA actually is showing how much African is a huge part of Latin American history. By the way, there is also a woman from Colombia who is about equal parts European, African and Native American. 1/3, 1/3, 1/3. This is common in Colombia and Venezuela, for example.

      @@tsalon5864 No, you're absolutely correct. I'm a bit of a technicalist, and in that sense, don't consider Brazil (Portuguese) as well as many of the former British and Dutch colonial-outposts-turned- countries (Suriname, Belize, Honduras, etc...) to be consistent with being of Latin origin.

    • @tsalon5864
      @tsalon5864 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahmedics82, the Spanish and Portuguese were the first slave traders to the Americas. England got involved last. That's why most of the African slaves went to Latin America and blended in heavily into the population. Brazil, for example, almost received 50% of the slaves alone compared to 5% who went to the United States. There are places in Brazil that have still retained much of the African culture. Latin American music is also heavily influenced by West African music.

    Natalia FINALLY a Caribbean Latin sistah that gets & can relay the true ethnicity mixture of Puerto-Ricans. As a New Yorker it's refreshing 2 hear an educated Puerto-Rican who doesn't deny their roots or is in denial about they only want 2 associate w/the colonizer. Who BTW denies them from identifying themselves as Spaniard because they are Blanco folks and they make it very clear to Caribbean Latin folks that visit Spain. Once a race mixes which occurs in every location of the universe since the beginning of time. You are beautiful your looks show all 3 ethnicities. If I may suggest to you in the future when you describe African folks that were forced 2 inhabit the Caribbean, North & South America. Please consider using the term "Africans who were forced into slavery" opposed 2 saying "African slave". I hope you understand the correction I'm pointing out regarding the term "African slaves" is insulting 2 our ancestors & the horrific horrors of being enslaved. They had an identity prior 2 being captured on the mother land soil. So I reference our ancestors as "Africans who were forced into slavery" acknowledging that they were not just slaves. I hope you get my point & perhaps agree. I do love that our Cuban & Puerto-Rican cousins as I reference us folks from the diaspora lucky that you guys were allowed 2 keep the music of the motherland. In America we were not allowed 2 keep the music because racists en-slavers knew that music was not just for entertainment but communication. The band any drums so that they would not be able 2 communicate escapes. I love 2 salsa or watch Cuban & Puerto Rican's get down ya'll do it the best...also regarding South America the Columbians get down also. Speaking of getting down w/some Salsa I'm looking for my Marc Anthony music!! This New York sistah LOVES me some Marc Anthony SMILE!!! PEACE
