Ive been running the Dunlop rear with an anakee wild up front on my KTM 690 for about 7000 miles coming off a TKC 80. First off its noticeably heavier. So much so i actually noticed less agressive acceleration. It grips on the road in any condition and corners well in any condition. It makes noise but isnt loud. It still has atleast half the original tread depth after some hard riding. When the tire was new i took it on a 250 miles section of SOAL ( southren ohio adventure loop) it catches decent in mud but it makes a huuuuge mess. The most impressive thing i can say about it is it made it up a sheer incline of wet shale with about a foot deep zig zag rain wash out no problem where the dude i was riding with looped out on a more aggressive knobby. This tire is pricey but worth every cent. It is more capable than i am as a rider.
Seriously what an amazing performing tyre, I have been riding ADV bikes for 35 years and not seen a tyre perform like it, the cottage in the snow basically confirms on how good it is. Proof is in the footage of it being used in all different situations.
It always amazes me, how you still get individuals complaining... I mean, how hard are you driving your machine in horrible conditions?! People sound like they are dragging knees at 100Km/hr (60miles/hr) in rain, snow slush and mud. Heck, I know I am not a top rider and that there are some really good riders out there... but a review like this, shows that the tyre does incredibly well even when ridden at above average pace and conditions, by a competent rider.
Great Presentation. I actually ordered this after seeing your review. Got it installed couple of week back. Did about 80 miles of dirt and gravel. Extremely happy with how they handled. My next test will be 2 days off road in Big Bend National Park soon. Thanks again for a great and honest review.
Thank you for the review of these tyres. I'd seen some great reviews online before buying these and took the plunge. At the fitting centre, they basically tried to convince me that I'd bought the wrong tyre for use here in the UK. I ride all year round on a KTM 790 as it's my only means of transport through all weather. They really put the fear of God in me that through the winter coming up that these tyres were too hard (and old-fashioned) and would struggle with grip. I commute mainly but have to traverse some pretty uneven sometimes muddy single track tarmacked countryside roads. This review has made me feel a whole lot better, especially as they really weren't cheap here. Thanks again for giving me some confidence back.
Hey Kyle, I met you back in Hayward at ADV Designs. Your videos kick ass and we appreciate the info! I have about 600 miles on these tires on my GSA. About 20 miles on dirt, 300 on twisties, and some (boring) commuting. So far, these tires do it all, very well!! Thanks again!!
I love this video! it shows you what the tire can do. Alot of people complain about tires and I always wonder if it is just there riding skills doing the talking.
Dude... I am IN LOVE with your bike! I just wish it came with a 450 power plant. The Mission tires do a fantastic job for sure! Thanks for watching! - Kyle
Thanx, Kyle! You and the Chaparral team have the most comprehensive tire tests on the 'Tube, IMHO. I've been looking for tires to replace the OEM Bridgestone Battlax's on My V-Strom 650. Good road/rain tire, 10K mi on the rear at the wear bars, but they never were confidence inspiring in gravel or sand. I've watched all of your videos on the MotoZ Tractionator GPS' and RallZ's and the Trailmax Mission video suite. I now have moved the Dunlops to #1 on my "podium;" #2 Mitas E-07+, #3 MotoZ Tractionator GPS. The E-07+'s have spotty availability, and I've been satisfied with Dunlop street tires on other bikes in the past, and I don't have any experience with MotoZ, but was willing to try them until the TrailMax came out. Fixed income, but this spring, the "Tire Jar" will be full and I'll be placing an order with Chaparral for a F/R set of Dunlop TrailMax Missions!
Happy to be of service Christopher and thank you for watching. This new TrailMax Mission tire is quite the tire. I think you will be impressed too. I like your breakdown... The E07+ and the E10 have yet to be tested... but are two of the last 5 sets we have to test. Stay tuned! Happy New Year! - Kyle
Kyle, excellent review as always! I just put these tires on my DR650 and so far I love them! Thank you for your recommendation, it helped me a lot! Cheers!
These came on my 22 triumph 1200xe and will be the next set.about 9k miles with quite a bit off pavement.i weigh 250 + 60lbs camping gear with tools.smooth on road great off pavement, not bad on dirt.
Have you guys ever thought about hosing down an empty parking lot with a tanker truck and putting the tires through a slalom, brake and turn course? I know it doesn’t rain but 3 days a decade 😄 down there...but here in the PNW, we could use the data!? Right now the Dunlop is on the top of my list, followed closely by the Mitas E07. Edit: I commented before the Snow riding.👏🏽 Well done...well done...you literally made my mind up. Awesome video Team Chapp! My Triumph ScramblerXE 1200 is going to love these tires! Thank you!
Actually... Yes! Honda has a test track here in Fontana, CA that we have thought about asking to borrow. The issue then comes in trying to change 30 sets tires in a day... and as the day warms up and cools off the "conditions" will change and the test will be insightful, but not totally accurate. Not that our current tests are as the conditions on our roads / trails change too. Here are two more videos for you to check out... a very different version of this tire being tested: th-cam.com/video/TjI015QyObE/w-d-xo.html and her it is in some pretty gnarly snow: th-cam.com/video/XI6kLdv8OWk/w-d-xo.html -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team
Chaparral Motorsports Awesome! I’ll check them out! I lived in Idyllwild for a few years (I’m sure you’re always of the highways up and down that mountain?) and know Fontana Raceway well! I’ll be sure to check out the videos! Thanks!
Thanks Kyle, your review really helped me to decide on these Dunlops. Just mounted them on my scrambler 1200 and still scrubbing them in, but they’re already surprisingly sticky on the tarmac. Looking forward to hit some trails soon!
I’ve been running these for about 2000 miles. Most of those miles are one the highway at 70-85mph. I off road when I can. Yesterday I did about 55 miles of off road in some challenging terrain. I have never wanted anything more with the Trailmax. They corner in asphalt & the grip in sand, mud, & rock. I am able to navigate tight turns on gravel & securely brake down loose hillsides. Thanks so much for a GREAT review & outstanding recommendation. When I do the COBDR I will throw on a set of the RallZ Motoz. But for my daily commute & off road fun I’m thrilled with these tires!
Hi Rick, thanks for watching.. Great review of the Trailmax. Glad you liked them, we are pretty impressed with them as well. Agreed on the Motoz when doing mostly offroad work! Thanks again, ride safe.
Awesome! It is a good time! We can ride it from Hwy 10 to the 15 at Lytle Creek. Good times!!! Just recently we have ridden the Santa Ana River Wash from the Redlands Airport to Chaparral Motorsports. That was a blast! Thanks for watching! -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team
@@OregunAdventure Cool Thanks...Never been there so flying into Portland and renting a car and will be checking out the state for 3 weeks hitting as many towns as possible. Looking to stay as close as possible to the coast. From Pennsylvania and are use to the rain. Want to ride mountain bikes and motorcycles, hike ,fish....any suggestions?
living2 Day for fishing, see if you can get a charter out of Garibaldi. For riding a motorcycle make sure and hit 47 out of Vernonia and 53 out on the coast. Henry Hagg lake is a great place to ride and catch trout lol 😂. Not sure about Mt bike riding. I usually just ride my bicycle around the neighborhood;)
Thanks Kyle. SUPER TENERE Put these on after watching many reviews Your info helped heaps. Australian conditions vary heaps like your back yard. Replaced Motoz Adventure with these. My second super ten and the best tyre I have ever put on one. Cheers Kyle Keep up the great work.
Great review, you've demonstrated riding in just about every riding condition I encounter and so far i've only used street tires so i'm looking forward to testing out some proper ADV tires.
Good video and information. I had pretty much made up my mind to get these for my KLR but when you mentioned the tie in with Falkin Wildpeak, that clinched it. I run the Falkins on my 4 X 4 truck and have excellent on and off-road traction. Plus the Falkin Wildpeaks are severe winter weather rated. I'm also glad you did slow speed uphill and downhill testing. Speed can compensate for a marginal design but speed doesn't matter to a superior tire. The sidebiters on the tire are also a Falkin Wildpeak carry over.
Hi Ed, thanks for the insight. Yeah these tires are pretty impressive and Dunlop had a lot of good insight to build upon based on the Wildpeaks. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the tires and ride safe.
I have done 39000km with a TrailMax rear tire 140-80-B18 M/C 70T m+s during the last 15 months....hard tire indeed...Here my roads are like rough sandpaper and it did the job....
Fantastic review, Kyle, looks like Dunlop has a winner on its hands. Like you said in your closing comments, you threw every type of terrain it seems at this tire and it performed remarkably well. I don't even own a bike yet--just getting the bug again at 59 after growing up riding dirt bikes in the Midwest, and I'll just get a small dual sport (like a Honda CRF 250L Rally with ABS) to have some fun on, and these tires look like a serious option to consider, along with the Mitas E-07's. Thanks!
Great review, you vary riding styles over the same terrain. Super helpful, sometimes I'm out for the day and sometimes camping for a week and you're one of the few reviewers that makes note of the different riding styles we use in each of those situations. Thank you. I'm still having trouble seeing this as a 5050, but you've certainly helped convince me. We have similar conditions around Sydney as you are riding in, which is a great bonus.
How did it go off-road? I’m also looking to fit a set on my 850, I do a lot of tarmac and I like to ride aggressively off-road... I’d appreciate your view and opinion, thanks!
@@AltoPrado 7k miles later, wear profile is excellent, I expect it to get 9-10k miles before changeout. It is not a true dirt tire and performs more like a 70/30 in very nasty offroad conditions which shouldn't surprise most. Grip in the wet is OK but not as good after you've scrubbed a few thousand miles off it. It will get you where you wanted to go though, i've ridden this tire through every condition nature can throw at me (snow, heavy rain etc). If you want a high mileage ADV touring tire with some off-road ability this is a great one. If you need better grip off road then you'd best get a more aggressive tire. The missions tread block pattern just won't shed dirt well enough when you hit slick/ sticky mud.
@@AltoPrado Anakee wild has a much shorter life span versus the Missions, the tire compound is softer than Dunlop's. You may get about 4500 miles out of it at the most. The tread pattern does work better in dirt versus the Missions, but you'll be changing them more often. Michelin's tires are quite expensive lately. :( FYI I've logged 12k miles on the 850 so far.
Thank you! Watched every tire ret video several times. Thank you so much for the simply awesome and consistent reviews! Really helped me out! Going for this setup this season!
Wow, what a demo! The 2017 GSA I just bought came with a brand-new set of these. I can see that they are far above my meager abilities. Good to know 😉.
I'm looking for a 50/50 and realize this video is almost 3 yrs old but the tread style is good to see and your comments are good to hear cause the tires that come on the 2022 CB500X are not comparable to your tire in this video. If I can find this tire still or one close to it then I'll be set I think? Great video, Blessings
Great review Kyle! Know the areas in the vid well! Local guy too. Teneres been a Pirelli scorpion footed bike. Theyve done well off road (obviously) and well on road. Though at a interval of around 1200 miles, its time for a change. After 1k they get less predictable off road and on. Your vid has confirmed TMM's should be a good match for my riding with good mileage as a bonus. At least for now as the Tenere has been doing duty as a commuter with the cold and rainy weather, I prefer not to take the street bikes out in. Looking forward to ripping a set by next week! 👍
Nice! Thank you for watching and for sharing your experience and feedback. The Scorpion tires are great tires, but they do wear out quickly. This Mission tire really checks a lot of the boxes we have all been asking for... It is impressive. Next time you swing by on your Tenere, I'd love to interview you... Cheers - Kyle
Also local and thinking of getting these for the Big Ten. As she’s heavy I don’t plan any serious off road, but I’d appreciate the added confidence when I do as well as enjoy all the canyons in between.
I'm running Continental Twinduros right now but I wanted something smoother and more pavement oriented for my KLR that's 90% pavement riding. I just need something that'll stay solid in gravel and I also like the longevity of the Trailmax Mission. I'm definitely going to switch to these as I'm impressed by their performance on/off road. Adventure/dual sport is always a compromise of some type. Much like the KLR the TrailMax seems to not excel at anything, but it'll do whatever you ask of it. Great, honest review. It's sealed the deal for me and I can't wait to try them!
You had me sold on the Dulop TMM but it is tubeless!!! :( after convincing self this was my next tyre time to rewatch your tyre videos and come up with the best 50/50 tube dual sport tyre ;) It is for 2018 my xt250 ;)
@@chaparralmotorsports what do tyou recommend LOL. Called you guys at Chaparral and said I can run tubes in tubeless; so is Dunlop are back for me! However I am looking into if the sizing is ok for my bike. Manual calls for 80/100R21 51Pand 120/80R18 62P. The Dunlps closest fit are:: 90/90R21 and 120/90R21, what do I expect if get these sizes? Thanks!! FYI Price is important but the least important and longevity is 2nd least important in case you prefer something else for the 290 lbs xt250
They are pretty good tires. We placed them in the number one spot in our overall results of our ADV tire shootout. th-cam.com/video/gjtgLz1LjnE/w-d-xo.html
Chaparral Motorsports I watched that video the other day. They made the top 5 in almost every category. Pretty impressive. They’re more like an 80/80. 80% as good as a sport bike street tire and 80% as good as a dirt bike tire. there just needs to be a new category for these.
Cool review! Mountain goat... I called my bike that after my first trip in the Alps 😂👍 looks like a good all round tyre. First us here in wet boreal areas I think we need a more aggressive front tyre if you go often in the forest roads. Looks impressive though and KTM should consider this instead of the Karoo 3's from factory?
Yes, this tire is really impressive. I do foresee this becoming a potential OEM tire in the future for all big brands, BMW, KTM, Honda, and the likes... It really does work and it looks as if longevity will be there. Impressive. Thanks for watching! -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team
Thanks for these great reviews! I think I've watched just about all of them. Kyle, which do you like better for all around So-Cal driving these Dunlops TrailMax or the Bridgestone AX41? They seem about the same but maybe the AX41 are a little better on the wet roads?
Well... they are really similar and you WILL go the same places on BOTH tires... just 3 to 4 times further on the Mission tire. If you want an AGGRESSIVE look go with the AX41. If you want mileage go with the Mission. Thanks for watching, Kyle
Thanks Kyle. I just spooned on a set of these Dunlops (too soon to give impression) at 55k miles. My favorite 50/50 to date is the Mitas E-07 on my Tiger 800xc, but rain grooves were SCARY AS HELL in California -- loved them off-road though and even on-road ridden aggressively they stick. The Motoz Tractionator GPS' were very good too, but often felt vague, especially in aggressive cornering and the front pushed gravel/sand more than I like -- rear got squirmy at about 25% left. The GPS's did however survive a long time and deal with massive rocks very well. Shinko 705's were great on-road (short life, but better than TKC-80's and super cheap to replace). However, Shinko's proved they were just 80/20's off-road, so don't expect more than basic dirt or gravel. Tried some Avon TrekRider's and they sucked on-road and off-road. TKC-80's weren't great for my riding style, and absurdly short-lived. The stock Bridgestones were 90/10 tires -- why the hell would the XC model come with 90/10 tires -- Shinko's were way better. So, I hope the Trailmax Mission's are finally the 50/50 I'm looking for.
Great feedback / overview Rhunyen! Your experiences pretty much sum up just exactly what I have been showing in these Adv tire tests. I do think this TrailMax Mission tire will quickly become a fan favorite. I just works. I tried to make it be an 80/20 tire... but it has proven itself as a true 50/50 tire despite my abuse. I will be running them again in the near future. I am curious to hear what you think of them after several thousand miles! Thanks for watching! - Kyle
Just fell in love with my next set of tires. Maybe it‘s time to tell my Pirelli Scorpion Rally STRs that it was good while it lasted, but now we grew apart. 💔
Really not a bad choice of tyre I like the block pattern on the front tyre. I reckon the back tyre looks a bit or a lot like the Metzler Karoo which I thought sucked on the dirt and wore out super quickly. The other point I'd like to mention is the fact that even road tyres with reduced air pressure get going alright on the dirt it's when it comes to stopping they fail miserably usually. I loved your review on the Michelin Annakee Wild what a great tyre and your review was spot on
Hi Thumpermad, thanks for the comments and compliment. Yeah, as you pointed out, air pressure can work wonders on the performance of a tire. Ride safe.
This review scares me away from Annakee saying that it can’t handle cornering on the street !? 😬 my dealer recommended the Annakee or the comparable Continental’s on a GSA
Yep, your review seemed to provide most of the confirmation I was looking for. I think the Trailmax Mission is going to be my next tire. It seems to hit all the sweet spots for what I need in a tire.
@@chaparralmotorsports Helpful review. I'm leaning towards the AX41 now, given your review and your final thoughts on the tire. Although, I think I might try this tire next season. Thanks!
WOWWW great review 👍👍👍 you r realy good driver to.. not easy this kind of trail with bike bike.... i run the Karoo 3 on my GS 2018.. i like a lot.. i make gravel trail and fire road .. some are with a lot off sand in my area QC. and Ont. Canada.. what do you like more between this 2 tires.. the Karoo3 and TrailMax.. you r personnel opinion. thank you 👍👍👍
Thank you for watching! The Karoo 3 is very rough riding and has much vibration. It is an aggressive tire that works well off-road. The TrailMax Mission tire has a very mild and smooth street character but performs similar to the Karoo 3 when the going gets rough. I LOVE the look of the Karoo 3, but would pick the TrailMax Mission for my own bike. -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team
Great tire. The 5 ply tread and 3 ply sidewalls make it a stiff carcass and a beotch to install by hand. I left mine in the sun for a few hours and still a tough go. If you run tubes and may have to do a trailside repair for a flat you may want to reconsider.
Those will be my next tire if I can find some to fit on my Honda XR600R 😊 I did enjoy your video very well made and Chaparral look so professional place 😊 Of course I subscribe 🎉
@@chaparralmotorsports Which tire will be better for heavy dual sport (BMW R1250GS ADV, KTM) - Mitas E07+ (or Dakar) or Dunlop TrailMax Mission? Thx, great tire review:)
@@chaparralmotorsports I have a ktm 1290 adventure r. I do alot of trips on double track fsr roads, roots and some mud. I need a tire thats great off road but still gives me confidence on wet roads ( live in BC Canada 🇨🇦) would you recommend this tire over the mitas e-07. I have the e-07 on my klr
I appreciate all your great reviews! I'm looking at the E07+ , Motoz tract adv and this Trailmax for my 1290SAR. I burn through tires so I would like more mileage but I really want the confidence of a very capable off road tire (dirt, rock sand). What do you think? Thanks again!
Our / My pleasure! I think the TrailMax Mission tires will end up being the longest lasting most aggressive tire in the 50/50 line-up. Smooth on the road and I was not able to get it to falter off-road. It will be a new fan favorite here pretty quickly I do believe... -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team
Great review Kyle...Thx! My biggest conundrum is wet tarmac vs deep mud performance. I'd rather keep my line on the highway at higher speeds in the wet, and have a hard time in the deep mud, then slide out on the wet tarmac, and move well in the mud. So 80/20 seems the choice say the Anakee Adventure for best tarmac wet grip and overall good off road (not great in mud and front tire poor in deep and), and this Dunlop for overall, but risky on wet tarmac.
Hi Barry, thanks for the compliment. If you haven't seen it already, take a look at our overall results video from this testing series. The Anakee Adventure took 2nd place overall (the Shinko 705 came in first) so yeah we'd says it's a good choice--although due to our location here in Southern Calfifornia we don't get much rain so we didn't get to adequately evaluate all the tires in wet tarmac/deep mud conditions. Here's the video: th-cam.com/video/gjtgLz1LjnE/w-d-xo.html
@@chaparralmotorsports Thank you. I'll watch the comparison right away. Wet tarmac performance is a biggy for me as many times while touring, especially in mountain range areas, heavy down pouring rain, single lane two way traffic, pushing speeds from behind and in the opposite direction, cold temps, side winds, sometimes gusting, reduced visibility, nowhere to pull over (or simply mustkeep moving) and so on, every molecule of tire grip matters for keeping upright and in control, especially in turns and while braking. 😳
@@BarryMDHo yeah! Same here, in Poland, EU, most of the streets are single lane two way traffic. I have already Anakee2, which I must replace. My list looks as follows: Anakee Adv or TrailMax Mission... Which is better on tarmac and wet tarmac..?
Hello Kyle and Chap moto team. Love all your throughout reviews. Can't wait to try the TrailMax Mission. I put them on 3 weeks ago then we went into confinement! I guess I have to wait another 2/3/4 weeks! Great videos! Cheers
Hi Patrick thanks for watching. Glad you enjoy the videos. Yeah this quarantine has everyone pulling their hair out. Hopefulyl you get some seat time with the TrailMax Missions soon. Ride Safe (when you get to)
Great question! The center strip on the GPS does create a compromise in traction in some terrains. I do think that this Mission tire is a little more aggressive than the GPS. All other aspects they are very similar. -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team
Same comparison i was thinking. What about longevity? How would you compare the lasting of these compared to the GPS? Especially if long miles of hard road need traveling to get to the good dirt sections.
Thanks Kyle for this great review. So the tires load up, momentarily lose traction and spin faster, but clean themselves quickly to regain traction. What's the ABS status during the test?
How long lasting are we talking about? Another question I have is: what's the milage on the one's you showed us here, because at 18:39 you could see they started to show some cracks... I mean, if they get like that from the beginning, I'm not so sure they would last long.
At the end of this video I had just about 2k miles on them. Installed them Mid November at 14,211 and I just took them off mid December at almost 16k miles. I'd say 1700 miles or so were on them at the time dmark you reference. I guess I would get 4 to 5K out of them... Dunlop says their test bikes got 8k to 10k... but I NEVER see manufacture mileage on any tire I run. I have punished this set of tires TRYING to prove they were not a 50/50... and they really ARE. Oh... and those are not cracks in the tire, they are grooves made from spinning the tire over rocks... I was abusive. They will be the next tire I mount up to my personal bike. Thanks for watching. -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team
What (another) great review! So, it's been 4 months since this test. Are you still running these tires? If so you should have made them bald by now; what kind of mileage did you get? I run an 04 V-Strom 1000 really aggressively on the street, and a little timidly on the dirt (because I have a balding 805 on the back). What kind of mileage should I expect?
The tyre on Kyle's 1190 is the same as the one I have, it has a centre bar that appears once the tyre is about 50% worn (terrible idea IMO) . The Bridgestone literature shown at 0:34 has no such bar, as do lots of the other reviews Ive seen online. has anyone else noticed this?
@@chaparralmotorsports Hi Kyle, not the small 1/4" long wear bars, but the massive 1 inch+ wear strip that appears in the middle. If you search for 'Dunlop Trailmax Mission after 10K miles' there is a short that shows it very well with a old and new tyre side by side. I have noticed a lot of the Trailmax Mission tyres dont have the inch wire wear strip
@@chaparralmotorsports My original reply seems to have disappeared. I'm referring to the bar around the circumference of the tyre in the centre, not the little 1/4" wear bars. . The answer from Dunlap was that the 'tie bar' is only present on the 150/70/18 size to aid in stability for larger bikes
Thanks! I notice ZERO tire noise from this tire. Quiet impressive. But... I have not ridden it on a GS - which I have experienced the same amplification as you ... K60's are the worst! Thanks for watching! - Kyle
Thanks for another great review! Some questions from my side: Have you had the chance to test the TKC-70 ROCKS and if so...which of these two will you pick as your prefered back end 50/50 tire? Would you recommend TKC-70 ROCKS in the back and TRAILMAX MISSION in the front for a R1200GS-A? and lastly... I saw a video in which you said that TRAILMAX MISSION are the second best 50/50 tires for wet pavement.... which’s number 1 ?. Thanks in advance for your comments!
Hello Juan, unfortunately we did not test the TKC70 Rocks for this series so we can't speak on the combination you mentioned. Also with the minor amount and infrequent rain we get here in southern California we weren't able to adequately test all the tires for wet weather conditions. If you haven't seen it , check out our results video from our ADV tire test, it may help you pick your next set of tires. Here's a link to the video: th-cam.com/video/gjtgLz1LjnE/w-d-xo.html
Thanks a lot for your reply! Great TOP 25 video!!! Very enlightening... No doubt MICHELIN ANAKEE ADVENTURE, for my specific needs, could be the winners but If I can get 6K miles out of the TRAILMAX MISSION, I would love to try them on!
Really interested to know what folks are getting for mileage running these on the big bikes. I have a Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 and this looks like a great tire to get me to the mountains and then head on fire and logging roads. Never know what you'll hit, gravel, mud, and maybe even some snow at altitude. Admittedly, I use my Stelvio as a daily driver which is about 80 miles of highway daily so I want some tire life.
Great job as always Kyle and I think these are my next tires after I wear down my 804/805 combo on my AT - They're nice, but a bit loud on the tarmac (most of my driving since I commute) and I'm thinking they'll be done for at around 4000 miles. Given your wear and mileage on that KTM so far, how many miles would you estimate they're useful for? (knowing of course KTMs can sometimes chew through tires faster than other bikes due to HP). P.S. - I'd love to have a riding area like that :) CA is a lovely state.
I have about 2.5k miles on these Mission tires now... and have "Tried to Make them Fail" to be a 50/50 tire as they are so round and smooth... BUT they just Work! I am thinking 5 to 6k for me in the rear on this tire will be about it. Silky smooth and works great off-road. Not bad!!! -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team
Mounting question. How stiff is this tire to mount/dismount? For bikes that still use tubes, a puncture means trailside work. My Shinko 804/805s are easy to spoon off, and put back on.
Great question. It's middle of the road. A bit stiffer sidewall than the 804/805 but much more pliable than a Heidenau or a Motoz tire. -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team
How would you compare this to the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR? Watching the vids, the conditions seemed pretty different, but the STR struggled in the sand for sure. Would you say the Missions are better off road in all cases? Thanks for the great content!
Yes, the Dunlop TrailMax Mission tire outperformed the Rally STR in All Cases except how it felt on the highway. The STR was soft, smooth and gave feedback from the road unlike the Mission tire. The STR is really a Street tire that can go off-road where as the Mission is a true 50/50 tire. -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team
I am guessing 6k for the aggressive rider and upwards of 10K+ for the guy who gets 50+ mpg and never lets his wheels spin or skid. -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team
Is the AX41 better off road ? , and you said something about the AX41 side walls. Great 👍 review as ALWAYS. Paul from Australia. I know you did this some time ago , but I’m travelling around Australia next year with pretty much every condition available. Waiting for the Trailmax to get to Australia.
Hi Paul, they are somewhat eqaul when it comes to offroad. One of better in certain terrain than the other and vice versa. Either tire is a good choice really.
@@chaparralmotorsports Just wet asphalt on the rear Trailmax mission I here isn’t the best , but front fantastic due to dual compound ( but obviously both good off road , what about trail max mission front and AX41 rear ? I know the AX41 would be better for slippery asphalt if comes to that ? and I know the AX41 rear will only last roundabout as long as a Motoz Rallz rear ( but just had that with my M21 Rallycross it outlasted . A Motoz ADV , Desert HT and the Rallz. So that doesn’t bother me . I also just spooned on a GoldenTyre tyre GT723 rear with M21 front on one of my other bikes . Your opinion please on Trailmax front and AX41 rear ?
Have you guys noticed any instability on the front end, especially under hard acceleration out of a corner or even dirty, turbulent air on the street? I put a set on my 2019 Desert Sled, with 6k miles on it and the front end is very twitchy and way too susceptible to front end wobble now. The stock STRs were super stable in everything I threw at it The instability started immediately after the missions were installed, even felt loose at 0 to very low mph. I could feel the heavier weight on the front, giving it a weird gyro effect. In isolated steps, I adjusted rear sag, tire pressures, and F/R rebound to try and dial it out; softening the front helped a little but overall no dice. Going to check w my shop to see what they say, but possible the tire is too heavy for the Sled?
@@SecondHalfofLife not totally settled but I have tuned it down a bit - softened the front suspension and stiffened the rear to get more weight onto the fronts. But still, above 85mph on the hwy gets sketchy, esp if there’s a ton of cross winds, or if I have luggage / weight on the rear. I can’t wait to burn these tires down and get something else. These tires are too heavy for the Sleds geometry. The stock Pirelli are fantastic for the street and I don’t do much off road.
@@sheelkapur I ended up putting a set of the Dunlops on my 2012 Triumph scrambler and just finished a 2300 mile trip that pretty much had it all, tons of freeway, grooved freeway, terrible pot-holed farm roads (which I actually really love), lots of smooth twisties, rain, dirt, gravel roads, and even a hail storm. The tire does feel heavy but did outstanding overall, and best of all was super durable. The rear didn't square off, no punctures and it was amazing in the hail covered road. Not the grippiest tire for cornering (but not bad either) and just ok in deep gravel, but that's good enough for me because a lot of that may be my own skills/limitations. But it was very predictable. It felt very stable on the grooved roads and metal grate bridges too. I was running about 32 PSI front and 38 rear with the bike pretty loaded down. Had my rear shocks dialed up fairly stiff and front rebound pretty stiff with compression on the softer side. You are probably right that it is a geometry thing for your Ducati. The triumph is a good bit heavier. If you are riding mostly road, Pirelli Scorpion or even the Avon Trailrider might be a good tire to try. That was what I had on before and they were super sticky, radial tires that do great in the rain too, and can handle dirt or gravel if needed. Probably a lot lighter as well.
@@SecondHalfofLife That's awesome, glad to hear they worked well w/ the Triumph! Sounds like you had an epic trip. They are meaty, gnarly tires for sure, and do handle surprisingly well when leaned over, through crappy roads, and off-road. Wish they paired nicely w/ the Ducati Sled.
Yes, I would rate the TrailMax Mission Tire a better tire than the Karoo 3 for the R1250GS. They are similarly aggressive off-road but the Mission tire is a much better on-road tire. - Kyle
Overall I like these TrailMax Mission tires better than both the K60 and the Anakee Adventure. Similar duty as the K60 Scout and a little more aggressive than the Anakee Adventure. They do better in cold than the Heidenau but the Anakee Adventure beats them both for wet weather performance. Hope that helped ;) -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team
This is the best tyre review format I've ever seen.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
Hello, excellent review. Glad you like the tire. Thanks for the comments. Ride safe.
For sure one of the best tire test I have seen so far!!! Amazing presentation of this amazing tire - your great riding skills preconditioned!
HI Andi, thanks for the kind words. And thank you for watching our video.
Just wanted to say thank you for the great reviews and the replies when people have questions.
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching.
Great Presentation. I actually ordered this after seeing your review. Got it installed couple of week back. Did about 80 miles of dirt and gravel. Extremely happy with how they handled. My next test will be 2 days off road in Big Bend National Park soon. Thanks again for a great and honest review.
Great to hear! Let us know how they do on your adventure. Thanks for watching.
Followed your like for the tkc70 Rocks and now I’m down the rabbit hole. Love your tire videos man. Thanks for all the work you have into this.
Awesome! Thank you!
Awesome. Glad to hear that. Thanks for watching. Ride safe.
Great point! Everyone will have their own opinion about what works/doesn't work for them. Thanks for watching.
You got with with Made in USA plus great performance! Definitely my next set of tires!
Good choice! Thanks for watching.
mine too
I didn't know I will definitely purchase knowing their American made!
Best tire review I've watched in a while. And it pushed me over the edge to purchase these - thanks for being so thorough!
Wow, thanks! Glad it was helpful in your tire purchase decision. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Kyle, I just stuffed these on my 250 rally. They are really , really good tires.
Dude... I am IN LOVE with your bike! I just wish it came with a 450 power plant. The Mission tires do a fantastic job for sure! Thanks for watching! - Kyle
Now this is a test. Many and most just talk, talk, talk. I love how you just went for it. Cheers.
Thanks.
Cheers!
Glad you like them! Ride safe.
Bro, how much did Dunlop have to pay to make this kind of review? The tremendous amount of work you put into making this video is crazy!
Thanks for the compliment. Dunlop did not pay to make this video.
Just ordered these, can't wait to try them out. Thanks for the informative video!
HI Gary, Thanks for watching our video. Let us know what you think of the Dunlops.
These came on my 22 triumph 1200xe and will be the next set.about 9k miles with quite a bit off pavement.i weigh 250 + 60lbs camping gear with tools.smooth on road great off pavement, not bad on dirt.
Sounds like a great tire, good to hear about the real-world performance.
Thanks!
Astounding review for what seems to be a remarkable tire. Best review I've even seen so big thanks to all of you.
Wow, thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Kyle, your review really helped me to decide on these Dunlops. Just mounted them on my scrambler 1200 and still scrubbing them in, but they’re already surprisingly sticky on the tarmac. Looking forward to hit some trails soon!
Great to hear!
can you corner on tarmac using full thread? Go down to your knee almost?
the best tyre review I ve seen
Thank you for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed it.
I used to ride my Yamaha Tri-Zinger back in the 80's with my dad in that wash! That was our spot,.. "the wash", until it was closed off.

Your info helped heaps.

Keep up the great work.
Great to hear!
Great review, you've demonstrated riding in just about every riding condition I encounter and so far i've only used street tires so i'm looking forward to testing out some proper ADV tires.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching. Best of luck with your new tires. Ride safe.
Wow! That's quite a lot of miles, great to hear it held up so well on your roads.
Thanks!
Awesome, glad you found it helpful. Excited for you that you're looking to get back on the bike. Thanks for watching.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
This is exactly what I was hoping for in a review of the tire. Offroad coverage.. :D I have a new BMW 850 and am looking to put these on the bike.
Good choice!
How did it go off-road? I’m also looking to fit a set on my 850, I do a lot of tarmac and I like to ride aggressively off-road... I’d appreciate your view and opinion, thanks!
Also looking at the Anakee Wild 😜
FYI I've logged 12k miles on the 850 so far.
Thank you! Watched every tire ret video several times.
Thank you so much for the simply awesome and consistent reviews! Really helped me out!
Going for this setup this season!
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching.
Wow, what a demo! The 2017 GSA I just bought came with a brand-new set of these. I can see that they are far above my meager abilities. Good to know 😉.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
Sounds good. Thank you for the compliments. Ride safe.
Best review I've seen so far. Great review!
Glad you liked it!
Glad you enjoyed it. Ride safe.
You had me sold on the Dulop TMM but it is tubeless!!! :( after convincing self this was my next tyre time to rewatch your tyre videos and come up with the best 50/50 tube dual sport tyre ;)
It is for 2018 my xt250 ;)

@@chaparralmotorsports what do tyou recommend LOL. Called you guys at Chaparral and said I can run tubes in tubeless; so is Dunlop are back for me! However I am looking into if the sizing is ok for my bike. Manual calls for 80/100R21 51Pand 120/80R18 62P. The Dunlps closest fit are:: 90/90R21 and 120/90R21, what do I expect if get these sizes? Thanks!! FYI Price is important but the least important and longevity is 2nd least important in case you prefer something else for the 290 lbs xt250
Chaparral Motorsports ax41; got them is very close eom size and speed/ load rating.
I just ordered a set of these. I think this tire might be the unicorn we’ve all been looking for. They’re setting a new standard for sure.
hahaha. The Trailmax won our overall 50/50 ADV tire shootout. They are awesome tires. Thanks for watching.
😬 my dealer recommended the Annakee or the comparable Continental’s on a GSA

what do you like more between this 2 tires.. the Karoo3 and TrailMax.. you r personnel opinion.

Good tip!

I have a Rally 300 would this tire be a good choice
Great review. Thank you
I appreciate all your great reviews!
My list looks as follows:
Anakee Adv or TrailMax Mission...
Ride Safe (when you get to)
@@chaparralmotorsports ill do. Thank you.
Thanks Kyle, again, great stuff. These Dunlops or Motoz Tractionator GPS, which you would consider better 50/50s?
Great question! The center strip on the GPS does create a compromise in traction in some terrains. I do think that this Mission tire is a little more aggressive than the GPS. All other aspects they are very similar. -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team
Same comparison i was thinking. What about longevity?
How would you compare the lasting of these compared to the GPS?
Especially if long miles of hard road need traveling to get to the good dirt sections.
@@chaparralmotorsports hi, please let us know about longevity of GPS comparing to Dunlops.
Thanks Kyle for this great review.
So the tires load up, momentarily lose traction and spin faster, but clean themselves quickly to regain traction.
What's the ABS status during the test?
ABS and Traction Control are off when he does these tests.
Got a set yesterday 👍 Now I just have to wait weeks for the snow to melt…..😢
Have fun! Thanks for watching.
Did you change tire psi for the off-road portion of you testing?
The tyre on Kyle's 1190 is the same as the one I have, it has a centre bar that appears once the tyre is about 50% worn (terrible idea IMO) . The Bridgestone literature shown at 0:34 has no such bar, as do lots of the other reviews Ive seen online. has anyone else noticed this?
Are you talking about the wear bars?
Great review..thank you. What about road noise?? My 1250 GS loves to amplify tire noise.
Thanks! I notice ZERO tire noise from this tire. Quiet impressive. But... I have not ridden it on a GS - which I have experienced the same amplification as you ... K60's are the worst! Thanks for watching! - Kyle
I’m interested in this as well. Still running Anakee 3’s on my 17’ GS and they have a howl at certain speeds.
Great test, thanks.
What tyre pressures did you run the tyres at on the different terrains?
Hello, sorry these tests were run years ago and we do not recall what PSI we ran. Sorry.
8K miles is the average thus far
Thinking I might be leaning towards these. Wheelie factor of great importance on the 790S, haha!
Good choice! Thanks for watching.
those are not rain grooves. that is the Departments answer to minimizing pavement noise.
thanks for the awesome review.
Thanks for the info!
I mounted a set of Trailmax mission on my CB500X Honda but I think they are very hard on dirt. What air pressure do you suggest?
Anyone know if these are/will be available in Europe?
Great video review! Thank you! Dunlop it is!
Bitchin tire!
@@chaparralmotorsports do you think these tires would be a good choice for a 2018 Honda CRF250L?
Great job i really enjoyed this test
Thank you!
Another excellent review. thank you
Awesome. Thanks for watching.
Great thorough review, as always - Two thumbs up:)
Thank you! Cheers!
Good comprehensive review.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
I need some advice. How do i wear out my back tyre as quickly as possible? I cannot wait to fit these Dunlops
Other than burn outs, ride, ride, ride.
Happy Holidays ! How many miles do you predict they will go ?
Im interested in the mileage too..
The stock STRs were super stable in everything I threw at it
The instability started immediately after the missions were installed, even felt loose at 0 to very low mph.
Did you ever sort this out?
Followinf
What are the weight 9f these compared to the 705 or 805? Riding a 500X and keeping an eye on rotating weight... thanks for your great work!
Sorry not sure, we did not do weight comparisons.
Great review. I am looking for new 50/50 tires for my R1250GS. For this bike would you rate the TrailMax Mission better than the Metzeler Karoo 3?
Yes, I would rate the TrailMax Mission Tire a better tire than the Karoo 3 for the R1250GS. They are similarly aggressive off-road but the Mission tire is a much better on-road tire. - Kyle
Thanks
@@lpbonney Yes Sir!
How do these stack up to the Heidenau K60 Scout and the Michelin Anakee Adventure??
Overall I like these TrailMax Mission tires better than both the K60 and the Anakee Adventure. Similar duty as the K60 Scout and a little more aggressive than the Anakee Adventure. They do better in cold than the Heidenau but the Anakee Adventure beats them both for wet weather performance. Hope that helped ;) -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team
