I can't even wrap my head around why people would cheat... it's one of the lowest things a person can do to another person. If you fall out of love with them, break it off like an adult, don't play childish games with them and cause them more pain beyond losing the relationship.
I think it's more of an insecurity thing on the people who perpetrate the cheating. They have this emptiness and insecurity inside themselves that causes them to cheat so they feel this type of power over their partner. In that scenario the cheater ends up being the one with more problems down the line by never forming healthy attachments.

I wonder how much heartache it will take until people realize that you don't know someone until you watch them over long periods of time. A lot of these issues are ones I usually observe in relationships between two people who are just attracted to each other but know next to nothing about each other and don't care because they want what they want, right now. They don't wait to see if there are any warning signs, they dismiss red flags that pop up because they "don't want to ruin a good thing", or will just straight up skip any deeper analysis to begin with. If you don't take the time to get to know someone before jumping into their dynamic, you won't know whether its about to be a dream or a complete waste of time (and as a result, you share in the culpability). It's not about well-meaning actions or first impressions, it's not them remembering your favorite food or why you saved that one ticket stub from that one concert, it's about subconscious patterns of behavior. It's subtext, and subtext can only be accurately translated with proper context. Context takes time, no matter which way you slice it. You will NEVER know 100% about something, or why it's like that, unless you observe it _over time._

Often times, things aren't some grand mystery, we just don't bother to take the time required to properly weigh and measure everything. It doesn't help that we live in a culture that rewards instant gratification to a fault.
I learned this from my pastor/mentor. She said only accept a true date from someone you already know deserves your time. Hang out in groups first: how does he treat others, how does he treat wait staff, how does he interact with his family, etc.
