    The problem with Twitter was never the platform. It's the people. And I don't see how Elon, or anyone else for that matter, can change that.

      If that's the case, why can't people leave? No one is forcing anyone to come on to twitter. They can make their own platform or move to another. I don't see the conscious effort of users to say they're going to leave if the public space change and for whatever reason, they log back in.

      It used to be pretty respectable. It was a way to spread information to colleagues, notably journalists or scientists. Around 2012 I noticed a shift and by 2015 it became basically the comments section of a controversial TH-cam video 😂

    Now it's Facebooks turn. It desperately needs new management and approach. I work with FB business for years and in a few last years it became unbearable. Incompetent support, random account restrictions, messy unintuitive buggy interface. Stock drops are absolutely justified.

    This guy is making many assumptions with little to no information on what is happening behind the scenes. The $8 charge would get you more than a check mark. If you don't want to pay, stick with the free account. We have no idea what Elon is ultimately going to do. He obviously likes to think out loud and get feedback. Right now it's all wait-and-see.

      i don't think you understand the point. the blue checkmark is meaningless, now. I can go start an account and impersonate a person or company and get a blue checkmark with impunity. it's become meaningless. he'll probably have to convert current blue checkmarks to some other "verified" checkmark so people know an account is "real", but all that does is create a tiered system. Blue checkmarks will need something to make it worthwhile if there's a different checkmark for "real" accounts, so he'll probably give them services like editing or something.

      He doesn’t care but that doesn’t mean he will loose his own money. He wants to run Twitter by its own money. That blue thing is for the professionals and for them $8 per month is nothing. It will make the platform more robust and secure. Just imagine Apple is doing all kinds of promotions for free where they can easily afford much more than that.

    Elon could have created an alternative social network (and then join all other social networks in a federation where users could post cross-platform) if he really cared about the things he says he cares about. And it probably would have cost him less than a billion a year until he found a way to make it profitable. Even if that took 10 years, he'd still be making a better deal. He didn't buy GM, he created Tesla. He didn't buy a rocker builder, he created SpaceX. He should have created a social network instead of buying one.

      Elons cars are like the Starbucks coffee version of cars. When he got involved with Tesla it was worth 1 million dollars. He has a company that builds rockets. I would be hesitant to say what he should and shouldn't do at this point.

    Verification Check is just for public figure accounts which might suffer identity theft on social platforms. Letting people have that mark just by paying an amount just makes that mark lose its worth.
    Consider this, iPhone 2G holds a lot of value now because it’s rare. If everyone could have it easily, it wouldn’t hold that value it does today.

    The problem is going to be advertising money in my opinion advertising was always less about selling products and more about control Walmart spends 3or4 billion a year in advertising and who doesn't know where their local Walmart is and that it has all the latest products they need to spend 3 billion to tell you while their work force is do underpaid that they are on food stamps anyway Elon a lot of the biggest companies don't want free speech that's not the direction they are going

I've worked for several corporations, one of which had their CEO swap three times for political reasons with next to no effect on the workers.

    As a dev, i can tell you this, there are enough qualifed devs teeming to work for twitter regardless of its ownership or diversity acceptance as long as it has reasonable pay.
    I think musk will prove yall wrong.

      I'm also a dev and wouldn't work for musk if he doubled my pay. Guy is just so volatile and loony. I'd rather have a reliable, stable CEO running the ship versus a guy who wants me to print out my code and make me deploy 1-week rush jobs or face termination.
