I know EXACTLY what Elon's talking about when it comes to ridiculously overstaffed internet companies. Back in the days of the bubble 20+ years ago, I used to work at the largest media company in my country as lead web designer of their web portal and it was both hilarious and infuriating how many people they had that did almost absolutely NOTHING (and even faked their overtime charts!), while myself and a few others actually carried the bulk of the work AND were also technical at multiple levels to multitask and do more than we had to. When I finally quit to join another company at 3X the money, it took them 2 months and 4 people to replace me and I believe they could barely keep 1 of them because they couldn't handle the work, nor they had the knowledge, skills, drive, management abilities and talent for the position. So I experienced first hand what Elon found when he performed due diligence on Twitter. Most of the large corporations are run by incompetent bozos and bean counters that have ZERO clue on who is who inside the companies they run.
The real question is: How many CEO's are learning from this Twitter-Fest ? i.e., "Dead Wood" running amuck in corp America. (Mary Barra ..... take some notes here.)
Knowing how the BBC feel about themselves (literally more arrogant and self-important than any other outlet in the world) and how they feel about Fox, it must really grind their gears to see the night and day difference between this interview and that one.
Hardly. Thoughtful and precise he is not. A 30min lecture on Virology is fair more interesting. I guess he taught you much, that you did not give much thought to before. You must read more studious articles.
Before Elon you could simply disagree with someone and you would get banned/suspended, I am not talking about being a monster and just being hateful but you literally couldn't have an opinion that didn't align with twitter. Now I can actually disagree with people and not be sent to the dungeons of twitter. Twitter is still a hive of crazy but at least I can share my disagreement with people now.
Yup! I wasn't suspended for a while now and it feels strange, I used to get a suspension a week or bi weekly! Suspensions were for normal views btw, nothing hateful or racist.
Yep I used to get little bans all the time. Ended up getting a perma a few years ago and quit, until Elon bought twitter. Redownloaded same day as I knew he'd sort that nonsense. Final straw for me was some CCP loving communist, that in their attempts of trying to tell me less people live below the poverty line in china than the UK (my country), they got infuriated and called me a balding degen. That's because in my picture I had a shaved head, which I had done for a family member with Leukemia. But the intent was, shaming for male pattern baldness. So, as a rational human being, I called them a beluga whale, for appearing to be 500 pounds in their picture. That got me perma banned. Nothing for them.
Exactly, you couldn't disagree with a particular narrative and you'll be banned, but now at the very least I can disagree with the freaks and actually voice my opinion. Facebook on the other hand
This is the energy of marketing - going for the clicks absolutely removes integrity. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the news actually had integrity... imagine that.
Google "Twitter staffing changes since inception". They added nearly 5000 employees starting in 2019. The number of individuals who didn't know their job, had never had a job before but we're making huge money, and sat around all day in the free cafe and restaurant were staggering Worse still were the employees who posted their daily routines to their accounts and both YT and TikTok. Of course they all had to go.

and they think THATS equality. lmfao. id love to know what they think actual privilege is. oh wait they can't even define what it is because they know how they live IS privileged and they dont want it taken away so they claim its oppression instead.
Well just look at Google and Facebook, both are peer companies of Twitter and are now laying off thousands of people now that we are entering a economic downturn. Many of these laid-off people are now revealing they were often paid to do nothing seemingly for no other reason then to deny their talent to potential rival companies. These are monopolies maintaining their Monopoly by preventing future rivals from getting the talent they need to become a computer. Such behavior is not sustainable for a company but only needs to last long enough for the company to establish unassailable dominance.
Elon is very very practical and objective oriented. When Tweeter had a lot of free money previously, the staffs were shaking legs until Elon gave them a shake
Hmmm yeah but.. it also doesn't matter how much more ethical or efficient a company is. If lots of people hate it and it has less money to sustain it then it won't last. So he has to make it likable again by the left and right or at least Americans. Right now allot of SF people don't like twitter cos they are far left and they used it as political arena to defend their ideology and spread propaganda. He's locating it at the wrong place. And public support for a human and a company is instrumental. You can't thrive if people hate your product or your company. It's not strategically located neither rent cost affective for a company does not have walk in customers you don't have to pay high rent to be in prime location. Jeff bezos is better at renting warehouse in the middle of nowhere. Twitter does not need to be in a prime area. There's no reason why they should pay allot of rent for an internet company with no walk in customers. It could be in texas and still work. Other businessmen be like. Pretend to work, enjoy all kinds of welfares, and enjoy the elite status. She left Twitter before Elon’s take over. I’m more shocked she didn’t become the doctor or engineer I thought she’d end up being.
There are a ton of very smart people who don't have the wisdom needed to properly use their intelligence because they've had easy, coddled lives and never been forced to dig deep or question anything.
I can speak from experience that many corporations are overstaffed and have no interest in correcting it. They are full of people who's job it is to report to other people who report to other people and contribute almost nothing. On lower levels where people do actual work they are full of managers who have a very low standard regarding work efficiency. Staff spend most of their day socializing, choosing playlists and having a fun day. This often equates to a happy staff and easier job for their manager who can get away with doing the bare minimum. They hire 2X the number of employees they actually need to get the job done to overcompensate for the poor efficiency and they BS when its time to justify their numbers.

Hmmm yeah but.. it also doesn't matter how much more ethical or efficient a company is. If lots of people hate it and it has less money to sustain it then it won't last. Right now allot of SF people don't like twitter cos they are far left and they used it as political arena to defend their ideology and spread propaganda. He's locating it at the wrong place. Jeff bezos is better at renting warehouse in the middle of nowhere. Twitter does not need to be in a prime area. There's no reason why they should pay allot of rent for an internet company with no walk in customers. It could be in texas and still work. Other businessmen be like. Overstaffed like the US government. I worked with an employee whose title was the “librarian” at the Department of Treasury. There were probably 20-30 books in some corner office and her job was to sit in that room just in case someone wanted to read a book during their break. This “librarian” was making 6 figures too.
