    Just bought wireless transmitters for my 09 MKX (factory Nav/Radio display has NO input placed into the circuit boards, but does in 2010 and later, Unreal!). After hearing your interference issues I am going to hard wire the camera/monitor. Glad I saw this - Thanks!

    Well I've just installed my reverse camera on me e46 Beemer tourer, this vid helped quite alot as the instructions I've received Erm didn't say anything to help.
    I did find, all the red power cables were required to be connected, if any had been left unconnected then no camera signal got sent to the head unit.....
    Rca red connects to a 12v power = I used the reverse bulb power, along with the main reverse power feed also required to fit
    Radio end red power connects to stereo camera input, along with the rca camera input cable
    There's also a number plate replacement bulb/power feed this was taken from the original bulb fitment & works great
    I've bought a cheap eBay camera, pictures not 100% but very usable, along with the guide lines
    I'll add a simple vid showing a diagram of my fitment.... As I've not shot a video during fitment... It should apply to most if not all installations. The camera operates when the cars put into reverse
    Anyway, great vid...... Only real negative would be in using duck tape rather then buying a rubber grommet as that would also safe guard the power cable from rubbing on the drilled hole

    So far the best video which explained what the short red wire come with the RCA is and how to connect it, thanks.

    First of all, it's an interesting video. However, it rather makes me either forget installing an aftermarket reversing camera, or go for a wireless one. So much wiring with this wired one! I would have used a rubber grommet for the widened hole, and crimped connectors instead of soldering, but the video gave me some good pointers, so thanks for your effort!

    Wired 04 Toyota Rav4 ccd camera today. The other posters are on the money. The red wire on the Yellow RCA cable has to be spliced into the reversing lights as well as the power for the camera itself. The red wire confused me initially. It is only a tail at both ends but it does run inside the cable all the way through. At the front end it has to be joined to the head unit purple wire [labled camera] as even though the RCA is connected the picture wont show on the head unit until this other 12v connection is made,. Cheers

    GREATLY appreciate your thoroughness in all facets of installation. One thing I would certainly change though is to not have a bag advertising for wallies store - the single most unethical and largest merchant on the planet. I was sorry to see that in there.
    Other than that, MANY thanks and kudo for a very helpful upload here.

    I have a taotronix rearcam with tag frame. Going into an '05 trailblazer. Anyway around it is an afternoons job. Thanks for the look at your project. Looks like the same monitor, this taotronics monitor has vid in for front and rear cam. I thought about tapping power from the OEM OnStar Mirror wiring. Glad you reminded me to check the RCA length. I think the tag frame cam came with a 20 foot. I best rough it in and see if I need to get an extra at Radio shack while I am after power tap splicers.
    Thanks for the look at your project.

    Quick question, Is the power connector on the camera /LCD a 5.5mm/2.1mm or 5,5mm/2.5mm? Thinking it might be better to run a power lead to the front of the car to avoid canbus problems....

    can you rig it to be a surveillance camera instead of a backup camera? for a vehicle with no rear view window.

  • @MichaelJArg
    @MichaelJArg 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Much better if you tow to wire the camera system to a on off switch, that way the camera comes on when ever you switch it on instead of you have to be in reverse to have it on. The reasons are being able to check the trailer connections as well as being able to put the camera on long before you start the car. When using the camera to hitch the trailer makes it much more usable because you will have to move forward and back a couple times to line the trailer and hitch ball up even with a camera, than when wired to a switch the camera isnt shutting down and turning off all the time.

    • @SuperLittleTyke
      @SuperLittleTyke 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I would prefer a switch as well. However, given that you could then switch on the camera and monitor while driving normally, i.e. forwards, I'm not sure whether it's (a) legal to video the car behind you or (b) whether the police might take issue with the live monitor.

      Well the ones I installed have 2 inputs, but the button to select the input is on the back which makes it not very easy to get to. Not sure what's out there, but you need to look for some kind of video selector for automotive use.

    got the set from one of online store, but problem is no instuctions , but hey , helpful but i noticed rca wire yellow plug with red wire what is that for, i got mine cut up in 2 ends. need to have that connect or made for ground?

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Wyckoff If you got a yellow RCA with red wire, that's even better because that will allow you to connect the red wire to the reverse 12V and then just run 'one' wire to the front where the LCD is located. Then connect that other end of the red wire (your reverse 12V) to power the LCD. So you don't have to run a separate wire for reverse 12V from back of car to the front.

    • @coolimpala71
      @coolimpala71 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It already cut.. so attach red wire because it built in 2 conductor wire? I using for permanent on with toggle switch so I can watch my travel trailer

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Wyckoff The red wire built into the RCA is just an extra conductor for you to use to carry reverse 12V from back of car to the front. However you powering your setup, it's up to you if you want to use that wire. You don't have to use it, and you can run your own power wire to your LCD screen, or camera.

    Hi dial2fast, nice video! I'm considering to make the same for a company van, although if I do it it must not alter the structure or drill the fenders.
    #1Well, bring this to my questions, how do the camera hold up with the rain and car washing?
    #2The night vision camera also works well in daylight?
    #3On the video you said it would light about 15 feet, does this mean the camera has a LED or a light that iluminates that much?
    In advance thanks for your reply, take care ;)

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +VinnysU2B #1 Camera is waterproof and no problem with rain or car wash#2 the camera image is crystal clear in daytime#3 these cameras don't use IR LED to light in the dark, but it does require some ambient light for you to see the image (ex: street light) or else it's too dark. Also I think the 15 feet might be what's advertised, but unless it's a lighted area, you will get maybe several feet.

    Thanks for the great video, I'm trying to install this exact camera. Everything makes perfect sense to me up until about 15:05...
    The yellow RCA has a red wire coming out at both ends. I assumed both needed to be connected to a 12v power source... You start talking about "reverse 12v" and a ground under the dash and I am lost :(. Did you connect the small red wire to ground? What wire did you ground at that point? I thought all that was left at this point is the yellow RCA and short red wire, with nothing left to be grounded.
    Any help would be appreciated! :) I'm sure I must be misunderstanding something stupid...

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Gawdat The LCD has 3 connections. 1 red power wire, 1 black ground wire, 1 yellow RCA cable. That red wire built into the RCA cable is just a convenience for you to connect the reverse 12V from the back of the car all the way to the front. You don't have to use it if you don't want to, but you need to somehow provide 12V to power that LCD on. Think of it this way, how else are you going to get the LCD to turn on when you put your car in reverse. The black ground wire can connect anywhere in your car. Your whole car metal chassis is ground. So find a ground connection up front. Optionally if you want to run a ground wire from the trunk to the front, you can also do that if you want.

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      That old install was 6 years ago, and didn't do an install vid. Yes, you can connect the camera to always on by connecting power to ignition 12v instead of reverse lamp. Keep in mind by doing this, you will be increase the run time much more and I can't say what's the longevity of these parts.

    Hey i really need help. My camera came with a yellow rca but each yellow rca has a little red wire. Where does that red wire go to?

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jefferson Almonte The red wire allows you to connect the reverse 12V from the backup light in the back of your car up to the front to power the LCD. Up to you if you want to use it, or power the LCD using a different power source.

    • @richardhills476

      dial2fast Hello,Sorry not sure what you mean? i have to short red wires at each end of the yellow rca, do you need to connect to a + power back & front of the car with them??got my reverse camera working but it does not come on automatically, I have to turn to dvr on the head unit each time??

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      richard hills There are different ways a use can connect to power the camera & lcd on. Example: power on with ignition, or in reverse, or constant on, or via a switch. The way I showed in the video is to power the rear camera and the front LCD using the same power source, the reverse light which gives 12v when you put car in reverse. So think how you can get this reverse +12v from the back all the way to the LCD in the front. You can use that built in red wire in the yellow RCA to carry that 12V from the back (connect to reverse light) to the front (to the LCD). Note, depending which kit you bought, some yellow RCA does not have a built in red wire and some do. The one with the red wire is just simply molded into the yellow cable so you don't have to run another wire from the back to the front. That red wire has nothing to do with the yellow video signal. I am not sure how you connected yours to your DVR, but you need to figure out how is the power provided to the camera and LCD to turn it on.

    When pulling my reverse cam out of my last car, I cut the wire that is a splitter. The wire inside from the camera includes 3 wires.. Yellow, Red, and Black. The splitter before broke these 3 colors into 2 different wires, black and red. Is there any way that I can use these 3 wires or do I need a new camera?

      Sorry, not sure what those wires you cut. If it's the RCA cable, then it will be pretty hard to repair.

    Hi, I have a problem, with installation, First I want to ask you what did you do with the blue cable, the is 3cabels RED, Black, and blue, the blue cable where should I connect it??
    I did Only connect the red and black only in the Reverse back light there I get the Power for Camera and for the TFT Monitor, I suspect that It doesn´t have enough
    of power I think..
    It works fine but ONLY when the Engine is off. Not on, the power dies...
    Help

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The blue cable is just a wire I had connected to the reverse 12V of the taillight from a previous install. So I connected the red wire to the blue wire to get revers 12V power. Your install should not have a blue cable but only a red and black. Red goes to reverse 12V and Black goes to ground. As to your unit does not work properly, where did you attached your ground? Make sure you secure your ground to a GOOD ground on the chassis of the car. Best to check everything with a voltmeter if you are unsure.

      Thanks you for a answer. I have a Blue wire so I will try to test that first, and change the ground position. But it very interesting why I´t work when the Car is off. after 3sec I star the car it go black, it seems that it´s not enough of power...
      I well try first like you sad. Thanks.

      Probably figured it out by now, but the blue wire on some monitors is used to automatically switch to the backup camera video input, when the blue wire is supplied with 12V from the backup lighting circuit. If it's not connected it would display video from the first video input.

    I am not understanding when you say you grounded something at the front?? There are two red leads on each side of the yellow video RCA cable. Rear red lead goes to reverse light correct? The other front red lead goes to the purple or green reverse signal input on the head unit. Correct?? You keep saying the Reverse 12Volt. What does that mean? You are confusing me. Thanks for any help you can give. My head unit is not functioning correctly.

      +Petie Wheatstraw In this install, we are only concern with powering up the back camera and front LCD. Both devices need a positive 12v and a chassis ground. We know the back camera gets the power and ground from the back area (as seen in the video). For the front LCD, I wanted to have it turn on ONLY when the car is in reverse. Therefore I will also connect the LCD's power red wire to the reverse wire also. Since the yellow RCA incorporated a red wire, why not just use that built in wire to carry the reverse 12v wire from the back of the car to the front. Otherwise, I will have to run a separate wire. So everything I have said up until now is just for the 12v red wire. The LCD also needs the black ground wire connect to turn on. Note I did not run a ground wire from the back to the front, so you will need to wire a separate ground to the LCD. With both red & black wires connected on the LCD, now when I put the car in reverse, both the camera and LCD will turn on at the same time. If you are connecting the camera to a headunit, then you are not using an external LCD, and your install is different than what I am showing.

      Okay thanks, that is what I did not understand and was not specifically pointed out in the video that you were Grounding the LCD monitor. You mentioned you grounded something but didn't catch what you were grounding. I only saw the yellow video RCA cable.
      I figured it out when I did a continuous test on both sides of the red wire and I used it for my 12v reverse light connections to my head unit and camera. Thanks again.

    Hi, Please help. I have done the exact same thing as you however the screen is flickering like crazy and unusable. If i dont turn on the engine and go on reverse have it on ignition the image is stable and clear. As soon as I turn the engine and go into reverse gear the image starts flickering. Everything is connected like what you have done and no difference. What is the reason for this? I'm going really mad over this....

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well there is only two wires to power this (12v and ground). The best thing is to check the ground wire with a mulmeter and see if the ground is a solid ground. That means you need to have a good connection back to the car batterys ground. If not, you might have what its called a groung loop and you ned to connect the ground to another ground point on the car that is good.

    I need help.
    I drive a Nissan Maxima 04. I have a Pioneer AVH-X1500DVD and bought a Universal camera.
    Ok so I have everything installed, the camera works fine while in reverse, the problem is that once I switch to Neutral or Drive or whatever, the screen goes black and appears a legend like when the camera is in use "objects may appears closer..." something like that.
    So, apparently the Pioneer have this option that I can use the camera while driving, but I dont have this option ON.
    I connected Positive and Negative cables of camera from the reverse bulbs.
    Any ideas on what could be wrong?

      If you want camera to run constantly you'd have to hook up to your running lights 12v constant power and/ or your ignition switch 12v constant

      Decrease value? If you do it in the center of your bonnet then probably yes, he did that under reg plate man. Every car have hundreds wholes, who can tell if this one in this place is not oryginal? as long as you will do it with a drill not with kitchen knife ofcourse.
