Love the honesty concerning the reason to go vegan. Nothing wrong with seeing how someone else lives and giving it a try. :) Btw, seeing how you live has increased my physical activity even more. I now do a quick workout in the morning to get my blood pumping.

I have been vegan for 2 years. I have never found it to be depriving. I never "fell off the wagon" or was tempted to cheat. For the most part, I was a healthy eater to begin with. I rarely ate fast food. Never ate chips or soda. I ate seafood, eggs occasionally and cheese. I was never a red meat lover or pork enthusiast lol. If you are not a routined eater (pizza night, meatloaf Monday, Saturday buffet, Red meat Sunday, fast food lunches), are adventurous, conscious about what you buy at the grocery store and not super picky about what you eat.....the transition is fairly seamless. Educating myself thoroughly and prepping for it ahead of time made it an easy change in my lifestyle. Not grueling at all.Road trips get easier with time and experience. Vacations and airports get easier with experience. It is not for everyone because of lifestyle, maybe your partner is not into it, lots of reasons. My husband went pescatarian first, then vegan.I went vegan cold turkey. I did not tell anyone but him. HE is the one who tells EVERYBODY we are vegan. I just prefer "plant-based" myself lol. It can be a little embarassing how he likes to announce it. Ugh, I just want to order my Japanese food.... I don't care what other people decide to eat. On holidays or at work, we bring something to share or just say "No thank you. " Saying No......half the battle in transitioning.

Honestly, one of the things I’ve enjoyed most about your videos (besides the skin care episodes and vlogs, of course), is that you don’t push veganism. You just show your natural day-to-day life, and it inspires people to maybe “give it a try”. I’m not vegan, but I know you’ve been opening my mind to trying to implement more vegan foods. It’s not forced at all. What I don’t like about many of the vegan TH-cam videos I’d seen, was where they try to make people feel guilty for not living a vegan lifestyle. I think that is where they can turn people off, rather than towards eating vegan.

I've been vegan for almost 2 years and it was one of the best decisions of my life, I don't have that "heavy" feeling anymore after eating and just overall feel healthier mentally and physically. At first it was a little challenging but after learning a few recipes and getting the hang of things it started to become more fun trying out new foods ect... best of luck to your vegan journey!

@Vlad the Impaler of German Saxons seeing the way some people struggle with them, yes I do think chopsticks can involve brain power. Also, what’s with all this stereotyping? If you knew SEA you’d know my last name says enough. Also, you’re talking a lot of crap for someone with “Vlad the impaler” in their user name.

I subscribed to SunBasket for about 7 months and liked it a lot. It was so convenient and had advantages over the other services. The recipes were varied and I learned a lot. Now I use the recipes but buy the ingredients at the local store to ensure I get good ones. Thanks for sharing your journey!

In the past I've dabbled with a vegan diet but always found it hard to maintain.By this I mean not eating dairy and all the little things that we add to our diet that are animal products. But the vegetables, legume and no meat thing has always been easy for me. But you have made my quest to go completely vegan seem attainable! So as usual thank you for all your great info and of course your recipes.

I've been watching your channel for a few weeks now, and i'm just now figuring out that you're vegan! I've been watching mostly your skincare videos though. I've been vegan for about 6 years now, and my process was gradual. I just started replacing non vegan foods with vegan alternatives, and of course there is a bit of a learning curve to cooking as well. My skincare and makeup products have slowly been veganized over the years, although I was already using mostly cruelty free items I transitioned to fully vegan products over the years. Watching TH-cam videos has helped with finding quality alternatives. I've even found a few thanks to your channel!

Dr. Dray, what are skin care/beauty essentials that we should carry in public? Especially for school and work as the season changes. That would be a good future video!
Throughout my school career, I always experienced dry skin in the winter and didn't bring lotion. When I did bring lotion, I wouldn't have the right product for dry skin (fragranced Bath and body works) which didn't help. In high school and college, eczema/perioral dermatitis was really painful and I would cry because I didn't know how to maintain the itchy skin besides cold water and irresponsibly not bring skin care products with me.

I never enjoyed eating meat growing up. I’m fully convinced I would have been vegetarian much sooner had my mom let me cut meat out of my diet. I still consider going vegan from time to time, I just don’t know how I’d feel not eating milk chocolate anymore 😆

You might want to read or watch the vids on The Cheese Trap by Dr. Neal Barnard--really illuminating I think. I was the same, thought I could never give up dairy (butter in my case), so I remained vegetarian not vegan for years and years; when I finally decided, it was pretty easy (similar to what Dr. Dray was saying). The health effects are amazing--a bonus!

Vegan for a year and feeling great! Hard to eliminate cheese, but now my joint pain is gone! I tried Purple Carrot which is an all vegan food delivery. The recipes were wonderful. I had some problems with the raw veggies-somethings would be ripe faster than others. Also, there was a lot of packaging. But delicious food! Even my omni spouse liked it.

He makes the most delicious vegan dishes and if I could have his meals I’d def be vegan, at least some of time 😆 these food delivery kits seem to be a convenient way to try out some lifestyle changes. So I’m considering giving it try. 💓🥢🍵

Can you talk about your thoughts on animal testing ? I am vegan, but in my country it becomes very difficult to remain cruelty free, because I have mild rosacea , and all the cruelty free products available here contain essential oils. Very frustrating.

I'm like you, I Contemplated being vegan for years, even though I never ate a lot of meat or dairy (I'm lactose intolerant). Then in my 50's I developed metabolic syndrome (blood pressure on an upward trend & prediabetes). So I went vegan (almost 4 yrs ago). After about 6 mo my blood sugar became perfectly normal, and a few months after that my GO was back to 100/70. In addition, my GERD and IBS went away within a year . The environmental and Animal cruelty issues have also become very important to me. The only thing it hasnt helped is my ACNE! So I'm grateful that your videos are so educational on both fronts (and didn't know about this wonderful easy cooking source...thx!)

So glad to hear your health has improved so much! Acne rarely goes away with dietary modifications, unless you were a heavy skim milk drinker...since you are lactose intolerant i would assume that was not the case

I’m glad you shared. I’m the same way-never really consumed a lot of meat, dairy, etc. Plus, my skin reacts horribly to dairy, soy, and just crappy foods, in general. I want to get better about preparing more vegan meals bc I feel like I hit a roadblock with certain things.

Thanks for this and sharing your story with us.
We have a Buddhist Temple near us that has a cafe adjoined to it and they serve amazing food made with tofu that is made to look like meat (tvp, crumbed soy, soy patties etc) and it tastes pretty good too! They serve all vegetarian food (not 100% sure if it is vegan, doesn't state on their website) but it was this cafe that introduced me to the idea that not eating meat can actually be a very pleasant experience.
    Now I'm hungry.

Dr. Dray, you are so sincere and transparent in relating what drove you to change to a vegan diet. I would like to go vegetarian. I get push back from my husband; he is a major meat eater. He would be very happy if I made beef everyday (that's definitely not happening). Beef in the store has gotten disgusting and very often tastes like it is on the verge of spoiling. That is because of the way the food chain is mass produced and it takes too long to get to the consumer. I find beef really disgusting. I would love to try a vegetarian diet; but, so far have not been able to do it. For me, a big part of changing my diet is animal treatment motivated. I hope I can one day make the transition. You are an inspiration, Dr. Dray. I would enjoy more videos of you doing food prep. It is a challenge for all of us.
PS Heh! Dr. Dray, I need those kind of chopsticks! LOL I am chopstick handling challenged!
