Plain and simple this bike rips! It sits high in the travel and pair that with the incredibly stiff frame it provides a very responsive and playful ride. We both preferred the 29er model, mostly due to the higher stack up front. The re-designed 160mm travel Command post was also a huge upgrade that allowed us to keep the saddle out of the way on steeper trails. This is very much a "Do it all" kind of bike, slightly less aggressive than the Enduro, but more capable for all day epics as well as more fun on the less gnarly trails.
I love my current Horst bike, (2009 Chumba XCL,) and I rode the 2018 Stumpy a couple of months ago. It wasn't bad, (The geometry and 29" wheels were nice,) but the linkage wasn't any better than my old bike. After trying more modern linkages, (DW, Maestro, Switch Infinity,) I can't imagine paying for another Horst bike. Sweet features, (Tire versatility, cable routing, etc) and build on this, though.
It doesn't seem to matter what bike you're on, you're gonna shred the crap outta some dirt either way. Nicely done. You're gettin' me stoked to ride! 🤘🤘
Yeah but Santa Cruz probably isn't going to use the vpp 3 linkage anymore. Probably going to end up on the nomad style for all their bikes that aren't xc
I bought the 2018 SJ Expert 4 months ago so feel a little bummed this came out so soon. Also note for the people who go out of their way to negatively talk about the Specialized Stumpjumper, almost 99 out of 100 times they have no actual experience riding this bike. Sometimes people just dislike something for whatever their reason and feel it's their job to watch all these particular bike reviews and report their bad news. I've loved the riding characteristics of my two SJ's so just think about the reason for someone saying Specialized doesn't make great bikes.
s-works as in the 9,000 bike, yep I'd be even more bummed? I really wonder how much greater the 19' actually is for the person who doesn't have something vested in views, bike review recognition or get free stuff. Yep it's the newest thing going but most of the time everyone online shits on specialized. New bike comes out then everyone is on the bandwagon again giving praise. Doubt I could tell the difference but it does still sting a bit.
Yea the 18 Sworks retails for $8,200. honestly its prob not that much better if the 18 is dialed in good already. its more of a kick in the balls resale wise. I normally try to sell them every 2 years. No one will want the old one now tho
Hey guys, love the vids! Would you rather the Evo or Standard Stumpy? Did you feel the Evo was manageable for general duties or bike park style speeds only? My ideal would be the EVO with maybe a couple degrees steeper HA! What are your thoughts? Cheers in Advance bro!
Where is the TDS Ranch?..i wanna go there. You guys ride all my rides out in Eldorado, Alpine and Amador County..And id love to check out that place! Im 55 but still like to air it out!..but not as fast as your YaYaas!..
Trail Peek , Have you rode the YT Jeffsy's 27 or 29? I am in the market for a new bike and want to get into something very agile that I can manual without issue and jump everything in sight. What would you suggest?
Hi man. I own a 2016 model and I find myself always ridding with the shock in Climb position, because the bike feel too plush when I push hard on the pedals... I'd like to know if it there has been any improvement in peddaling efficiency.
Trail Peek I’ve hear bad things about the enduro suspension platform and I’m trying to just switch frames. I currently have 27.5” wheels so I can’t do the Hightower LT. Would the normal Hightower be enough?
dale m the shop that I work at got to see these before they were released and we are getting them as demo bikes in our store and trust me i would go for that instead of the 2018. I was having for the 2018 but when I saw that i changed my mind. Even the comp alloy has really good components on it just as long as you dont go for the short travel comp alloy.... islts kinda a pos
James Blackwood I actually called Specialized yesterday, they recommended me to get the 27.5 bike I could swap in the 29 wheels without risking the bottom bracket to be too low... when I was thinking the other way around to buy a 29 bike and change to 27.5... thanks
allsic ...that sounds like a bad idea. If you swap in 29” wheels to a 27.5” (standard) frame, you’ll raise the BB ~.75 inch.... unless you’re talking about getting the 29er/6Fattie bike and having it delivered with the 6Fattie wheelset (which is not 27.5” tall).
I'm also 5'9" and have the 29er coming late june in a medium. did you guys feel jammed on the medium? I had the 2016 stumpty, 27.5 and felt I could go a bit bigger.
The Enduro still has its place. More aggressive geo and more travel means it’s better suited for the downhills. The new stumpy while extremely capable still tries to be well rounded
I thought the enduro was also supposed to be well rounded. my now 10 year old enduro has 150 mm travel both ways. this new stumpjumper with its almost equal travel and fat tires seems to obsolete the enduro, but I haven't seen any reviews for the new enduro. I stopped riding when we moved away from santa cruz and this was before 29in and 27.5in bikes were any good. I just watch because seeing people rip single track brings back good memories
Seems to be super quiet and good fun. Nice trails there! I like specialized technical details and designs... But prices are still a bit high for the better components.
m00nchildblues it's well worth the wait. I know ubyk got one in stock it's a custom build which I ordered Oct last year but both me n shop thought it was cancelled???? Ring them say Scott who ordered it out u in touch lol
Nice bike but as usual Specialized cheats on components. All models should be about $500-1k cheaper in my opinion. Quality wise I'd go with Santa Cruz or Yeti, money wise Canyon, YT. Almost any other brand name offers better value ever in quality or value and some are both cheaper and better.
It has nothing to do with the review but is it just me or it’s really absolutely stupid to call it 2019 Stumpjumper in April 2018? In 2020 will we have the 2022 model? The bike is great no question but the reach looks short especially when you consider that they dropped the stupid setback droppers.

Trail Peek thanks Randy! I’m looking forward to throwing my leg over this bad boy.

How would the ride compare to the Hightower and LT?
World you rather have the enduro or the stumpy?
Yes! Tell us! HTLT vs Stumpjumper 2019!
It doesn't seem to matter what bike you're on, you're gonna shred the crap outta some dirt either way. Nicely done. You're gettin' me stoked to ride! 🤘🤘
Horns High Mountain Biking HUFFY RULES !!✌
Good stuff!!
You were straight shredding. That was a joy to watch.
Give us dat TDS race footy!!
It was rad shuttling all you dudes this weekend. Absolutely epic time. And sick riding Dane!
...and this TDS practice content is sick too ;-)
Sick track! Some of those trees were scary close. That 29r proved to be quick and agile under the right pilot.
Holy sh*t, you're ripping on those new Stumpies. Particularly, it seems, on the 29ers. Reminds me of early days of the channel... testing bikes.
Love those big wheels!
I think everyone is wanting to know, do you like it and would you buy one?
Probably not due to the fact that they have a grass roots sponsor from Santa Cruz. I'd venture to say that it feels better than the LT though.
Loplopk The Santa cruz already look dated compared to this... Just sayin
Yeah but Santa Cruz probably isn't going to use the vpp 3 linkage anymore. Probably going to end up on the nomad style for all their bikes that aren't xc

Bought my 18 sworks Friday and this came out Monday. Total bummer to be honest
s-works as in the 9,000 bike, yep I'd be even more bummed? Yep, understand your point 100%.
Hope you got a deal?
watched like 15 seconds and needed to comment, "Nice riding, brah!"
Guys, seriously best review of this bike out there! Thanks, really appreciate the video and your comments below.
Awesome trails, sick riding!
Thoughts?
Where are you riding?
Ethan Fossum I will be riding one in SE Mass
WTF that is a badass trail. I'm not a Specialized guy but damn that was some nice riding
So what is the real difference between 27.5? Trail bikes only 29 now?
man it's like you guys are inventing a new sport out there
Beautiful bike, sick riding, stoking me up for the warmer days. Colour was a bit flat, riding made up for it!
Tested the bike on Happy bike days in houffalize this bike rips great suspension great speed INTENS
Sick skillz bro
I’m deciding between the stump jumper comp and the enduro comp. I ride a lot of single track trails and I do jumps. Which one would be best?
For a small size frame and rider... 27.5 would be the best choice?
This bike has a pretty high leverage ratio , is the rear shock requiring more air pressure than the last gen ?
Do they even have these in stock?
Hi, where are this trails? They look amazing. Im from Spain
did you guys try the EVO?
Yes, the production version won’t be available to the public until September I believe. It’s a rad bike for sure!
Eating to hear answer to evo question as well. Need to know if I can get away with riding evo for normal trails too
Sick bike! Sick riding! Off topic.....why the change of the logo?? Personally liked the old logo better.
Where is the TDS Ranch?..i wanna go there. You guys ride all my rides out in Eldorado, Alpine and Amador County..And id love to check out that place! Im 55 but still like to air it out!..but not as fast as your YaYaas!..
Its a private ranch in Nevada City. You need permission from the owner to ride
Trail Peek , Have you rode the YT Jeffsy's 27 or 29? I am in the market for a new bike and want to get into something very agile that I can manual without issue and jump everything in sight. What would you suggest?
So I’m either getting a stumpjumper or a Jeffsy but what’s better
Suggested frame size for 6"2 long hands?
XL
Idan Mashta also 6 “2 and unsure on large of extra large.
Hi man. I own a 2016 model and I find myself always ridding with the shock in Climb position, because the bike feel too plush when I push hard on the pedals... I'd like to know if it there has been any improvement in peddaling efficiency.
Just tested it myself, I’m on a 2016 stumpy and 2019 Feels Way more rigid and firm during paddling. Good question.
Where I live there is a lot of trail/enduro rides but I race DH in the summers and probably this winter. Could this bike do both for me?
It could. The enduro might work a bit better however. The Hightower is a good option too
Trail Peek I’ve hear bad things about the enduro suspension platform and I’m trying to just switch frames. I currently have 27.5” wheels so I can’t do the Hightower LT. Would the normal Hightower be enough?
Nevermind I just realized the hightower is also 29"
was that the evo or the normal stumpy?
Each clip says which bike we were riding 👍
Whats that a 6k$ or 8k$ sworks? Not that id ever biy one
n1 riding i would like to see you guys on a turbo levo shredding
Hows it compare to the Hightower or Hightower LT??
BiGWaVeDaveAZ Not sure myself.. But I will say the Hightowers simply look dated now compared to these..
Wow you‘re so lucky to test those bike so quickly ! What was your feeling on 29er ?
We currently ride 29" Santa Cruz Hightowers so we feel right at home on the 29" stumpy.
Trail Peek how does it compare to the HT
It sounds like Fox focused on the higher impacts and not continuous short bumps. Either way, the forks hasnt changed much from 2010
mad that 2019 bikes being test rid already. i,m still saving for my 2018 bike :-)
dale m the shop that I work at got to see these before they were released and we are getting them as demo bikes in our store and trust me i would go for that instead of the 2018. I was having for the 2018 but when I saw that i changed my mind. Even the comp alloy has really good components on it just as long as you dont go for the short travel comp alloy.... islts kinda a pos
Where are those trails tho?!?
On private property in Northern California.
Trail Peek not surprising. Only reason I’m asking is cause I’m up in Arcata and what you were riding looked like NorCal
TDS enduro. Check the sign at the start against the signs in the photos here.
www.pinkbike.com/news/tds-enduro-2017.html
Tim Maddux yeah it says TDS in the description 👏
Hi did you mentioned that the 29 wheels can be swapt to 27.5 wheels if I get the 29 frame? But not the other way around right?
allsic if you put 27.5 wheels with 6fattie tires it is compatible yes but not regular 27.5
James Blackwood I actually called Specialized yesterday, they recommended me to get the 27.5 bike I could swap in the 29 wheels without risking the bottom bracket to be too low... when I was thinking the other way around to buy a 29 bike and change to 27.5... thanks
allsic Though did they tell you it had to have the 6 fatties
allsic ...that sounds like a bad idea. If you swap in 29” wheels to a 27.5” (standard) frame, you’ll raise the BB ~.75 inch.... unless you’re talking about getting the 29er/6Fattie bike and having it delivered with the 6Fattie wheelset (which is not 27.5” tall).
Edge of Free If it raises the BB the bike has a new flip chip thing in the rear shock to lower it
Wow that’s quite a track!
That was some serious shredding. Thoughts on the bike ? Looked like you were comfortable and fast on the bike right away.
It's a very familiar feeling bike, didn't take long at all to get used to!
What frame size were you riding?
Both agreed that the large suited us best. We're both 5'9".
i'm hearing this bikes are sized small, ie if you are 6'1 you want an XL...true?
Not sure on that one Robert.
Robert Scott I think it’s down to personal preference. Curtis Keene is about 6’1 and rides a large, he tried both and slightly preferred the large
I'm also 5'9" and have the 29er coming late june in a medium. did you guys feel jammed on the medium? I had the 2016 stumpty, 27.5 and felt I could go a bit bigger.
Nice riding!
This or LT?
Working with Specialized now?
Just had the opportunity to ride this bike before the release!
jesus race pace! the background is so blurry it looks like ur recording in 480p
Nice bikes n rad shredd
S2 or S3?
Now you can fit a fox float X2 rear rear new metric size 210 by 50 mm
Orbea Rallon by Specialized
How does it compare to your Santa Cruz? My whole feed is about this bike. LOL. Killing it as always man.
VPP and FSR are very different. We both like the feel our VPP bikes better. But that comes down to personal preference.
stumpy is always rad, got the old and it's definitely a blast but don't think the s works model is the best... especially for random guys
so what is the point of the enduro now?
The Enduro still has its place. More aggressive geo and more travel means it’s better suited for the downhills. The new stumpy while extremely capable still tries to be well rounded

Yea RICK!!!!
Seems to be super quiet and good fun. Nice trails there! I like specialized technical details and designs... But prices are still a bit high for the better components.
Ripping those things!
Dang, I want one
Looks almost the same as my Orbea Rallon.
Almost, but more refined looking in my opinion.
A lot slimmer thats for sure. Would have to give it a go when my LBS gets them. But i absolutely love my Orbea.
I have the same thoughts lol
Specialized did it first on their Demo. :)
True. But id say it has more similarities to Orbea than Demo.
Looks very similar to orbea rallon?????? Nice bike tho
Or the demo from 4 years ago
scott mtb1 just orbeas everywhere are backordered forever. Hate settling for something else..
m00nchildblues it's well worth the wait. I know ubyk got one in stock it's a custom build which I ordered Oct last year but both me n shop thought it was cancelled???? Ring them say Scott who ordered it out u in touch lol
Holy sh't, that's fast.
There was a stop sign!!!
Yooooo tds dirt looked dailed
SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing!
That aesemetrical frame is kinda like the new rallons
Specialized has been doing that since 2015 with their Demo 8
Trail Peek good info! Great riding as usual. Was this on the rylo?
Probably a trade between weight and extra stiffness that Spec decided was not necessary on the trail bike previously.
It has nothing to do with the review but is it just me or it’s really absolutely stupid to call it 2019 Stumpjumper in April 2018? In 2020 will we have the 2022 model? The bike is great no question but the reach looks short especially when you consider that they dropped the stupid setback droppers.
Yes its a bit confusing. That's why Santa Cruz doesn't use model year, they do model generation. Ala the Nomad V.4 or the Bronson V.2.
Sick
Uau, que máquina...
U fxxx dope scares faster bravo.
Nice!!!
I do this on my Diverge :))))
Video or it didn't happen
Truly a joke :)
Gee one false move and you get a tree in the face!
orbea
Looks quite fast but boring.
Pinkbike weren’t so kind about this bike .
For a 2019, prettty weak to come w/ a fox 32 & not a 40. Better off rocking rockshocks
Somphoth Siratsamy huh? Those were 36s, not 32s and 40s dont come on trail bikes asswipe
What was the point of this video?
Thanks Ralph!
Eat some popcorn and enjoy the quality shredding Ralph.
1st
Pointless video, could be any bike under you and wouldn't change anything from our perspective
