Top decks still top decks from before the bans, but the meta feels much wider. The power between tier 1, tier 1.5 and tier 2 feels smaller then it was before. The unbans really put in work. Time could change that, things might just still be fresh.
6:45 "basically nothing has changed" Boros Energy has half the meta% it did before the bans. That matters imo. I think a lot of ppl think WOTC needed to go harder on the Boros Energy with the bans, but I think WOTC was correct to try to weaken it without making it unplayable before the bring a sledgehammer to its knees before they completely remove it from the meta.
I just cannot fathom a turn 2 win deck being "ok" in a format like modern. We've seen similar instances come up before and they're usually dealt with at some point. Idk. It just feels like having something like that being a big part of your "turn 3-4" format is a little suspect. Maybe it isn't consistent enough to be banned now, but I bet in a few years it'll be on the chopping block if we get even one more piece that slots into it.
Wait till you find out you can turn 2 in standard 🤣 modern isn’t a turn 4 format anymore sadly. You can win turn 1 with a gemstone mine in ruby storm, and I’ve stole a few games with neobrand on turn 1 as well :)
i mean like, i don't know why people wanna pretend this wasn't the direction Modern had been going in. Power creep has to be a thing in order to keep the game fresh. yest Premodern is super popular right now but i promise you few years down the road it'll start showing it's staleness quickly. Modern needed the Change up it did, Did it goes too fast? Surprisingly i would have to say no, it just had progressively been going this direction since Khans i would say. I don't know why we can't come to the acceptance power creep is inevitable if we wanna keep the format fresh, interesting, and fun
Man, remember when Ragavan was format warping? Good times. But really though, I'm curious as to what a horizon-less modern meta would look like now. No doubt it would be insanely strong and I'm sure some of the good old staples would still be pushed out, but not even having burn on the front page makes me feel sad.
Banning guide of souls kills the deck... it's not the ban. The deck needs/wants to exist after a ban, if they ban something, it should be phlage, or static prision. If this was just an aggro deck, you can't be mad that it's good, prision and phlage make the deck go long
I don't normally agree with most of your takes, but this is an absolute W take, really nice insight of the modern meta and the analysis of it's problems. Congrats on a great video!!
Here’s an idea, let’s unban more cards to shake up the format before banning cards for the purpose of shaking up the format. Let’s hold on banning unless we’re talking about a huge red flag card like The One Ring.
I want to remind people there has been a history of the mdoern meta taking months to years to develop. the popularity of a deck also doesn't always equate to it's power level. guide of souls is not an omega level card if it was that strong every moder player would jam them in every deck. I am biased as I do play the deck but there is plenty of counterplay to the deck. it is essentialy zoo with modern horizons powerlevel cards. aggro deserves to have it's place in modern as it keeps many combo and control decks that are less fun to play agianst in check.
Its honestly Phlage and Static Prison both. Phlage in combination with Arena of Glory is absurd, but Static Prison being a 1 mana Oblivion Ring with a pretend downside is extremely obnoxious. But its not even just those cards, the entire energy package is way too efficient.
Phage is just their interaction. Guide of souls is their best opening and their best energy generator. Without guide, the energy cost of cards actually matters.

@woower100 i mean, that's not good either. Just cause a dumpster is on fire dosent mean the burning trashcan stops being an issue.

I also have played this list for 3 months and 8 top 8s and 1 1st place finish in the last rcq season so I got my reps in.

Favorite Interactions in the Modern Format sounds like a really enjoyable topic. I will subscribe now in hopes of seeing it. Thank you.
Gotta make it happen next week then!
Next ban list, ban guide of souls, Psychic frog and breach. then unban jitte?
Yeah they need to ban Oculus not frog cause the original tempo list was fine

Looks at meta, where's all the broken graveyard deck that was supposed to pop up if looting was legal, still waiting on Drs unban tho
I think Phlage is busted. I feel like Energy is good but it's really Phlage giving it the late game reach.

I'm not completely there on Phlage, the card is good, but kinda on the level of Raga and or Fable, that's just my take tho
Breach does not need to be banned
I'll be happy to see Breach banned if it happens.
