I found the segment on how the bulkhead should be assembled to be the most helpful. Mine, too, also came assembled incorrectly in the package. Also, it was very helpful to know that the circle on top of the bulkhead is meant to point upwards. Doing this insures that the bulkhead is installed correctly. It also needs to be emphasized that after the bulkhead is either cut or unscrewed from the main pump pipe, that the entire filter will need to be moved in order to insert the new bulkhead. This likely means removing a significant amount of sand. I have a TR 100 and the bottom 20% of filtration media was pea gravel. Apparently there is a debate whether pea gravel needs to be installed to cover the laterals. I purchased this home 10 years ago, and have never changed the sand/pea gravel (I actually wasn't aware that sand "expired"). I purchased the sand from Home Depot (it is sand that is specifically manufactured for pool filters).
You stated you pressure test after you install the bulkheads. With everything installed in the Sand Filter TR100 (laterals, diffuser, but no sand media) is it okay to run the filter/pump in the filter mode without hurting anything inside? If so, how long do I run it?
I bought a 1.125" socket for this job. If I designed this part, it would have a vitron o-ring INSIDE the tank and there would not be a guide groove, only guide markings. You don't need to remove all the sand, drain the tank and scoop the sand off to the sides. Wrapping the threads with teflon tape is a good idea because water will escape through the threads and the guide groove. Dumb design and a pain to repair.

You forget about having to remove up to 700 lbs. (depending on model) of sand first. All because of a couple of washers or O-Rings. Great design

If it’s an older filter I always just recommend customers replace the filter.
