Thank you for the video! I cracked the union nut on a Sunday afternoon after cleaning the salt cell. Saw your video after a google search, ordered the part, and within 24 hours it shipped and I easily installed it. Worked like a charm!

This vid saved me so much time and money. I just put one of these on today. No runs, drips or errors. Easy install. I bought two extras just in case I crack the other one. Someone else recommended an oil filter wrench for final tightening. works much better than a pipe wrench or even a strap wrench. Thank you!

Union nuts are only hand tight and never put a jawed wrench to tighten them or loosen. If you have to loosen to take apart use a strap wrench

Wow, a freakin' lifesaver. I was worried with how to redo the plumbing until I saw this video. I bought the last 3 available on the Amazon link provided for I know the other side will eventually leak since it is 19 years old. Plus I have a spare for future use.

Thank you for your video. I had the same issue with a cracked union it so I ordered this from your store yesterday and just installed it. Working great and a very easy fix. Really didn’t want to get into cutting the plumbing to replace the union. Question to you, looks like it’s been a year since you posted your video. Is it still holding up fine? Thank you again for sharing your video and link to the part.

I have a coupler attaching a 3 way space saver Jandy diverter valve for my skimmer/main drain that is leaking. Can I just add more PVC cement to the area?? I don’t want to cut it bc it’s such a small space (hence why they used the space saver Jandy valve). Thanks!

Great video. What if it’s leaking similarly to yours but I can’t visibly see a crack? I’m beyond confused to be honest as to whether or not I should try replacing it or if something else I should be looking at. 15 psi right now if that matters.

    • @how2togo

Have similar cracked pvc union going into my Jandy pump. They unfortunately apparently make their size of union so it does not adhere to any standard split union nut that you can purchase. You have to purchase their union nut (no split version available) then cut and reinstall PVC. Not going with them when I replace this pump - making proprietary sizes is anti-consumer.

You NEVER use a pipe wrench or channel locks to tighten a union nut. YOU are the one who caused the crack in that union nut. “If” you need to use a wrench to loosen a union nut, you can use either a strap wrench (as suggested earlier) or you can get a set of 12” Filter Pliers (which tighten all the way around the nut evenly, without crushing down on one end).

People crank on these nuts when they should just replace the o-rings that get flattened. Use some silicone grease. Hand tight is all you need. Crank on the nuts and they'll crack
