LYRICS:
This is what the Gods must have been talking about
When they told me “nothing changes”
Falling through the Pleiades straight into a cloud
Wishing all the stars could save me
And I feel strange
Like I shouldn’t be here
Let me know if you receive me
If I could change then I wouldn’t be here
Oh nothing’s gonna change, believe me
So don’t lead me on
This is what the birds must have been squawking about
Right before the dream was ending
And maybe you’d have heard if you’d stopped fucking around
When it was time to stop pretending
That I could change and I wouldn’t be here
Oh, when did all the Gods deceive me?
I should change
I shouldn’t be here
But nothing’s gonna change, believe me
Believe me
Thrust the dagger into the night, valiant flailing
Sisyphean daily life, endless straining
Fortify the curtain walls, but nothing’s storming
Push the boulder off to the side
La la la la la la la
La la la
La la la la la la la

This album is like coming to terms with all the hardship in the world or your personal life and just being mature enough to know that this is just how life is, it’s always gonna be full of bad things but others have it worse, life is short and we got to have faith, joy, and gratitude for what we do have.

While listening to this song and reading your comment. I teared up and had a lump in my throat. Best comment

@@dennisdreher1038 I think "Someones Missing" is the best one but siberian breaks would be neck and neck with it for sure
Siberian breaks is their magnum opus. There will never be anything like it.

MGMT just casually dropped the best song of the year
of the decade*
The best song of the year is "Great Spirit" by Fried by Fluoride
Best album of the year *
How else were they gonna do it?

I am 45 and have been actively listening to various kinds of music for much of my life. This is one of the most beautiful, cleverest songs I have ever heard.
I’m 44 and I completely agree.
The lyrics on this entire album are the smartest I’ve ever heard
48, they are genuinely dope.
I‘m 46 and they are one of my favorite bands.
Hey go listen Siberian breaks and of moons birds and monsters
Untill now the only MGMT song I'd listened to was Kids, and this was a hell of a choice to be my first look outside of that.
Siberian Breaks
Mystery Disease
There's a lot to discover
maybe you’d have heard if you stopped fucking around
Listen to 'Little Dark Age' the album that came before this. Such an excellent album imo.
IMHO MGMT new album is probably the best indie album of this decade so far, still seems quite underrated in some circles.
This is how it always goes with them. Wait another 10 years and everyone will be calling this album a classic.
@@nolimit6377 I don't think that will happen for the most part. It's too downbeat and depressing overall.
"If I could change, then I wouldn't be here. " hits harder when you've recently had a catharsis about how you never changed your bad habits and broke everything you had because of it.
@@filler7359 you are pathetic and you will not see the light of heaven

This is a top 5 all time MGMT song
Yes and legit one of the best rock songs I’ve ever heard.
Initially disliked this comment, but boy, was I wrong. It's such a damn good song. I always enjoyed it, just didn't think it was top 5 material. It really is, though!
the ending is so cathartic and i feel like crying every time i hear it. one of the best songs they've ever made.
@@filler7359ok👍
Perfect climax
Completely agree. I think the lyrics prime me, then when the shimmering wobbly synthesizer comes in and it all slows down it hits me all at once.
It’s strange that MGMT always drops an album during some tumultuous period of my life. It’s like the cosmos speaks to me through their music, telling me what I need to hear. Well done… gentlemen. This song hits. Hard.
I'm right there with ya.
It do be like that tho
Foreal. Been a fan of them for 11 years now and they always release music that I need to hear at the right time
Same here.
Feels like the universe cares somehow, hearing this.
“We are alone. The world is not our home. We fill the air but we care.”
It always
Sameee
You could nearly convince me this is an unreleased song by The Cure. One of the most beautiful songs MGMT has ever written.
Very true
Attention! Attention! I receive you!
...the lyrics of this song seem to connect with me on a really deep level. I can't help but feel a serious case of synchronicity. I love it.
This albums sounds like a quieter, slower combination of Pink Floyd and the Cure. If that makes any sense
It does, it has an experimental yet catchy guitar riff that creates atmosphere through a complex but simple melody
And Bowie as well…
Yes! Have you listened to polyphonic spree?
If that makes any sense is a saying I add to my words and I use it often nice to hear other people using it

Such an interesting topic for a song and the production is the cherry on top
It’s like a a protagonist in a Greek tragedy crying out at the gods.
Wow this tune is beautiful, I love MGMT. Grew up listening to them during my party days. Now I'm 35, time flies dude.
Really seems like something Michael would enjoy, i'm sure he loves it.
absolutely, it's not a question now
Imaginary bombs raining down from the clouds
I think James would dig it too.
Listened to the entire album but I Keep coming back to this one ❤
The song is solid as they come
I had no idea MGMT was still around. I am in tears.
sisyphus would love this
Best track in album
ㅇㅈ
"People in the streets" is damn good, but I think I'd have to agree. This song is simply amazing.
This one was when the album changed for me. the whole second half was a different vibe
Something very deep cut smashing pumpkins about this that I love. Like when Robert smith and billy corgan collabed. I’m so proud of you guys! Mgmt was my first concert! And my ex boyfriend locked me in the car when they had their free meet and greet after the show. So sad, he drove us off. I would have benefited from meeting these guys 100%. I’m looking forward to hearing this live. Amazing vibes
Omg the horns! I love the horns I commented before the horns. Lol
Hey you should look up a band called The Doublejumps if you like MGMT
The verses of this song are literally perfect to harmonize to. Try it, even if you’re not a singer, you’ll get it.
Just beautiful. I cried when I first heard this one last night. I had high expectations and this exceeded them. The kind of song that helps us get through life and make some sense of it.
They cooked with this one
a deep fry
a deep cry
they sure as hell did
they cooked then ate
This song is perfection. Words can't describe the last 2 minutes. Favorite MGMT song ever.
One of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard
Major Tom flying around, masterpiece. Bowie would be so proud.
there's like nothing to say about this song, it's just insanely good, incredibly relatable and feels pretty relevant to how i think a lot of people feel or have at least felt once
I actually really enjoyed the new album love the change in pace
All of us we miss so much a new The Cure record that many of us write songs for waiting them. Amazing MGMT song- thank you for everything boys
Its like when Alan Watts spoke about it and I didnt wanted to believe him, but life has shown me that nothing changes
""It’s like a child who’s caught a fly alive and is picking the wings off it. The universe is that sort of scheme. It’s a trap""
-Alan Watts
Andy's voice lowered a whole octave since Oracular Spectacular.
Thanks for existing MGMT
How weird is the bassline, it sounds like it is going to resolve in another way, but then keeps going , so nice
life like
My God...
gutting
This and Phradie's Song blew me away
Wasn't expecting you to reach this high ✨😥
IMHO this sounds like so many 80s bands after there fun early music when they get into the 'sing mature ballad' stage.
This is incredible. Great writing. Great structure. Made me cry. And really hard to pin down in terms of genre. I got hints of Supertramp progressive and Radiohead feels. Not to mention a Pearl Thompson-like guitar, straight out of Disintegration. Quite a track. It's getting thousands of different, correct responses here.
This song feels like the welcoming arms of a friend you haven't seen in years, the family we never had, and the life we once lived.
It feels like the closing of something and the end of a life.
Great job.
Most underrated band of all time
This is one of the songs of all time which ironically also happens to be one of the greatest.
Well, that's my funeral song sorted.
Master piece ! Really love Andrew's voice and singing
Well that song took a lovely brassy turn! Love it.
Would love to see them have some brass on stage!
This feels like the credits music to MGMT.
I've listened to this every day now for weeks
I love the trumpet. MGMT never disappoints. Also so unique and insightful and relatable. I've loved them ever since I first heard/saw the time to pretend video in tv, back in the day when there were still music videos to introduce me to new beautiful artists😢
This is the one fave track on the album
Thanks MGMT. Have and will always be my favorite band. You've changed my life for the better.
2:29 Favorite moment of my favorite song on the album.
There's a "Feel Good Lost - Broken Social Scene" kinda vibe to that part. I personally love the horns in this song most.
The moment it breaks from “believe me,” I go into a trance
When Andrew said: ''la la la''
my torn soul felt that
These guys have not stopped putting out great music.......worth following
🔥🔥🔥🔥
My dream is a collab between MGMT and Never Shout Never, NSN has evolved a lot and is now an indie/psychedelic rock band, it would be a fantastic work of art.
Best song on the record
This new album is so killer. Love this one.
This song makes me feel when you face certain aspects of your life or personality that have been easy to run away from up to that point. But with that battle also comes an acceptance and forgiveness. Surrender to it. ❤✌️
Holy modern pink floyd
God damn this song.
I’m thankful that they kept the band together and kept blessing us with gems
Hey you should look up a band called The Doublejumps if you like MGMT
Andrew said the riff was based on hitting the wrong note in a Siberian breaks solo.
Bro has jokes GTFO lol.
Big "The Cure" vibes ❤️
this song is So Damn Epic

You left out my favorite line:
Falling through the Pleiades straight into a cloud
Wishing all the stars could save me ❤
This song hits at the very essence of human struggle and disillusionment. With the tone of holding your hand and telling you you’re not alone. Beautiful
production is pure genius ! the song is so beautiful ! Reminds me of Lou Reed's song "Junior Dad" + meeting The Cure + meeting David Bowie but the result is still ultimately MGMT ! Great album !
What an amazing comparison. Lou Reed, The Cure, and David Bowie? Honestly 3 of my favorites. Mgmt is up there as well!
Good comparison
Easily my favorite on the album.
Thank God, they’re back. Thank you. 🩶
One of their best songs period
holy shiet the production on this is crazy
Thank you! I've known you where going to ut this album out since my baby momma, Desiree, died three days after she gave birth to our son..."our songs" where *Home, by Magnetic Zeros...but OUR SONG was "Electric Feel"...the song that has always brought light into my being has just lost its gleam...and my condolences to y'all for the losses you have encountered...the love never leaves, the grief does change...wish I could start my new life, but I will never stop my heart from loving you, My Little Lovely Llama.
Thank you
I’m so sorry for your loss. She’s in a better place and one day you guys will be reunited
God bless you
This song is a masterpiece.
Thank You MGMT.

Man I wasn’t expecting this… been with my girlfriend for seven months after dating twice before, once in high school and once again about 7 years. We constantly fight over the smallest meaningless things and last night after an argument she told me maybe we just aren’t truly compatible. We have many things in common and we bond over things such as social anxiety and awkwardness in conversation with others but we just always have the same kinds of arguments. I’d been optimistic the whole relationship but she’s more of a realist than I am. And now today for the first time all morning I’ve been thinking… she’s starting to convince me. And then I heard this song. This is what the gods must have been saying, that nothing changes. Man I broke down in tears. Nothings gonna change so don’t lead me on is probably how she’s felt.
I feel you man, loss of life, loss of love, realising that both cores may be incompatible to a person's intended journey. The only way to know whether the person was right is to look back in retrospect. Arguments over the smallest of things are always a symptom of a larger dynamic issue, likely a pessimistic outlook at long term results. Hold on!
One of the hardest things to go through. Also, absolutely reality changing if you face it and integrate it. Best of luck
MGMT cures the soul

I foresee myself coming back to this. Great job! Pretty much everything I would want out of a new MGMT song.
Absolutely beautiful song. Hits right where it needs to at 40.
Agree, best song of 2024
Song of the year from the album of the year!
Going to listen to this on the next 🍄 trip and see what happens
You need shrooms to feel this song?
I'm not sure about the album as a whole but I literally shed a tear to this song which doesn't happen often. Nice one.
Praise and worship meets country folk
This autoplayed while I was listening to the killers, and I thought I'd thought "damn, this is killers best song, when was this made like 2008?"
This song hits different first thing in the morning.
I have listened to this song at least 5 times every single day since the premiere. Fucking BEAUTIFUL. ❤🔥🤘🏻
I love this song so much. For me Siberian Breaks is #1, but Nothing Changes goes straight to #2 best MGMT songs.
Where would you rank Of Bird, Moons, and Monsters
I would love to sit and pick your guys brains... my favorite video is the one on TH-cam showing you guys making electric feel.
Very The Cure
Are MGMT starseeds? If so, cool!
This has a Beatles vibe or something. I dig it.
This song really hurt
I've already listened to this once and it is now a song about my alcoholic/dying sister-in-law devastating my wife.
The greatest band around right now
