It's difficult to describe in words how this song makes me feel. I lost my best friend years ago to a car accident. MGMT was one of his all time favorite bands. Died cause the girl driving him home from work was drunk. Hit a tree and he was ejected and gone like that. Makes me sad that he won't get to hear this but every time I listen to it I can see his face and think of the amazing times we did have. This song was meant for you Nick. Love you man. Loss of Life brings a so much needed confort for me, it relieves my sorrow and stays by my side when I feel no one else is does. Can’t describe in a comment, but holy hell. Had a hard moment and opened up TH-cam to find one of my favorite bands on the planet just put a song out that was exactly what I needed to hear. I love you guys thank you for still making music MGMT
After a few listens, i think this is probably my favorite track on the album. The lyrics, instrumentstion with the fretless bass, fantastic sounding finger picked acoustic guitar chords, vocal performance, a few hints of lap slide guitar with some reverb and effects, bright surfy electric guitars, crazy drum fills and the always immaculately produced qnd mastered synths and drum machines instruments intertwined with acoustic instruments that swell into something more and more beautiful as the song continues is so present here. MGMT in their best form here songwriting and executing here. Great track
How does MGMT continue to sound so fresh with every new album? This sound is definitely a bit weird to me, but with each listen it’s just getting better and better. Please never stop making music!
I was thinking they had all this pressure on them years ago and they’ve escaped that in recent years, as true artists they never owed anyone anything because they made some hit songs. This album is very real and well put together, it has a great simple universal message and it has a great less is more aesthetic to it
This song has a very similar sound to the band Metronomy. Much different subject matter but the sound reminded me of them instantly. The song Mick Slow in particular
@@tamie341now you point that out, I do notice it. I guess they're both indie pop/rock bands with a mildly psychedelic sound so that's bound to lead to some similarities.

Such a beautiful song. PoTS blends the best parts of Bowie and Peter Gabriel into an incredibly rich and warm soundscape. Feels like a warm hug on the brain.

It's pretty badass, sounds like something from a late 80s or 90s Prog Rock band, gives me Rush vibes for sure. MGMT fucking killed this album it's a slow burn you play this album twice the second time after smoking a fat joint or some hash oil and just take in all the sounds listening to this through hi fidelity headphones ( Beyerdynamic DT900 Pro X)
Life keeps on going Showing you things that you can’t unsee In the sense of unknowing Why anything happens to be And just as the sun comes out again Something is blocking the light But it’s all right The inside’s still glowing Telling the heart what it wants to hear But what if it’s only lies Twisted apart by fear? I think this song in a good way makes us remind that we all suffer in its own dimension and we need to remind us that with simple gestures ( people in the streets) can also gives hope on life (chorus on the final sang). By my personal opinion this makes me think that we are all the same like the people in the street. And so has this makes me chills all the time.
the intro kinda reminds me of primal scream's "keep your dreams" but better. And then completely opens up to something else entirely, and it's amazing.
I’d be upset, but certainly understand given the amount of time that has passed and this reduced sound is why only 66,000 views took place in two weeks. It’s okay. I think this song is a treasure. Go hard for the next album and make it together in person and do it next year. If you want to really capture lighting in a bottle twice. Redemption of MGMT.
I've been trying to figure the name out, but I definitely hear "?? ?? Assasin; sanction, sanction, non merci", which would be calling someone a murderer and saying "sanctions no thank you"
The people in the streets represent social change. This is basically for the aging Boomers that have found themselves turning to their outdated ideals and even the generation after that, all the way to the millennials that are not willing to join the people in the streets. This is a true ideal to the “Loss of Life” album theme. Wonderfully thought of and produced in song. A+
I hear it as being about nonconformity. Things aren’t working for the protagonist because he constantly feels like an outsider, seeing the debate between people as pointless.

Fav song on the album
i can't believe this album dropped on my birthday and i didn't even notice
Life keeps on going
Showing you things that you can’t unsee
In the sense of unknowing
Why anything happens to be
And just as the sun comes out again
Something is blocking the light
But it’s all right
The inside’s still glowing
Telling the heart what it wants to hear
But what if it’s only lies
Twisted apart by fear?
That’s when the brain waves goodbye
From the front of the train
Where the coal is burned
And you know the refrain
Without hearing a sound
So you sing it again
‘Cause you won’t learn
From the people in the streets
Wheels left the ground
Hoping to fly past the road ahead
Components start breaking down
And sooner or later you’re dead
And just when the wool goes over the eyes
Somebody moves you along
But it’s all wrong
And someone complained that the fire was out
So they shut off the rain and let the flames return
And they had to rename all the tricks in the book
Now I’m starting to doubt
Where I once stood
And there’s people in the streets
There’s people in the streets
People in the streets
There’s people in the streets
End of the line
In real time
I stopped clinging to what’s mine
They’re marching to the beat of a different drum
Going over receipts with a magnifier
The people in the streets aren’t singing along
‘Cause they’re probably sick and they’re probably tired
I listen for the sound of the starting gun
But when you’re living the dream
And your ears are bad
The people in the streets aren’t part of the fun
And I’d go and join them but I’m so scared
Of the people in the streets
The people in the streets
People in the streets
The people in the streets
Damnnnnn I'm Crying 😢
What does the chorus at the end say?after the synth solo
