  • Wheel Stories rides out on the BMW twin roadster in search of scenery and adventure. There is no better mode of transportation for traveling the 262 mile Teton Scenic Byway. Wheel Stories rides the entire route and makes stops in Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, Teton National Park and Idaho's Teton Valley.

    Beautiful ride. Have ridden that area several times. Takes a while to get there from Ohio, but worth it.

    Great story telling!
    Man, though, that Road in ID was in some rough shape. Potholes and ripped up asphalt. Not my cup o’ tea.
    I rode Missoula, MT to Kooskia, ID in Lolo Pass. Now, that is a hella fun ride.
    I did it on a 2009 BMW K1200 LT. What a fantastic machine!
    I’d love to go back and do it on my 2004 R1150RT!
    Cheers! And ride safe!!

      The route from Lewiston to Missoula is certainly one of the best in Idaho. I need to get back up that way. Thanks for watching Wheel Stories and posting the comment. Glad you enjoy the videos.

      I am hoping to do some traveling in summer of 2020 but long trips are looking out of the question for now. I'd love to ride to the east coast some day. I've only visited cities on the east coast by air travel, but having flown over NY state and seeing the Finger Lake region from high above, I've got to believe you've got some great roads and places to visit. Thanks for watching Wheel Stories and posting the comment.

    What a great ride! I was in Jackson Hole in 1998 for a ski trip and did some snowmobiling in Yellowstone form the south entrance! I’d love to get there in the summer, thanks for sharing!👍

      Skiing is terrific at Jackson with some good deep powder days. Now snowmobiling in Yellowstone, that sounds like a good way to see the part.

      Good luck with your travel plans. I do believe Yellowstone is currently open with some limitations and access. Check weather as well. It snowed today (June 7) in Idaho near my home. The foothills near Boise received a nice dusting of snow. Thanks for watching.

    Can’t recall if I saw a video from you thru Lewis & Clark territory, from Lewiston, Idaho to Missoula, Montana along the Clearwater River on up thru Lolo Pass. Big sweeping highway never leaving the river, and in my opinion, Memorial Weekend or within a few days on either side of that weekend, is thee best time to ride thru this entire Canyon, for the early season mountain run off, the river is high and wild, Class 5 rapids the entire ride, with world class kayakers putting on a show for all to see. Plenty of pull offs for photo ops as well as the mesmerizing beauty. I’ve never seen a river so wild & wooly.... a must see if one can mark their calendar! I’ve traveled thru later in July, August and the river looks entirely different.

    • @WheelStories
      @WheelStories  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      May run off makes some of Idaho's rivers very wild. The main Salmon can be dangerous to raft and kayak in the spring with huge rapids and fallen trees floating down stream. Late in the summer you can see the water marks on the banks that show how high the water became during spring. Very deep in sections.

    • @DeBa1226
      @DeBa1226 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s exactly what I noticed. Rolling thru a few more times this past summer, I saw those water marks, and the trees, large logs pushed up on the banks from the May runoff. Blew me away how much higher that water had been. May runoff is very impressive to watch and listen to from the banks.

    Your videos are some of thee very best! Loved this piece and maybe because I was just over thru much of what you filmed, 3 weeks ago, but without the bike! Ugh. What an epic stretch thru those long remote country sweepers in Idaho you filmed to see the backside of the Tetons. I can’t wait to take that stretch on the bike. What was your temperature like? I know mornings are chilly, and afternoon rain showers are regular, which never bothers me; makes for great story telling later.
    On the backend of Bear Tooth Pass in Red Lodge, MT we found an epic remote, quiet two lane roller coaster HWY 78, stretching north to Columbus, MT which finds oneself just west of Billings, and what a must to explore. Your Idaho stretch reminded me of as much.

      I visited the Tetons in early July during a heat wave. Nice and cool in the morning but it got hot in the afternoon. In the 90's. But by 6pm it started to cool again. Thankfully the skies were very clear. No nearby forest fires mucking things up. Thanks for your compliments on the video.

    I enjoyed your video and thanks for sharing. I'm planning a trip out west this year on 2 wheels myself. I'd love to see a route you rode so i can plug it into my route. Planning days off and distance etc. isn't easy on 2wheels. The hard life of a blur collar working biker LoL.

      Lots of options for excellent rides in the rocky mountain region and pacific northwest. For the Yellowstone video I took the Teton Scenic Loop for a full circle around the Teton Mountain range. If you chose to ride through Yellowstone, be patient. The park is slow going with many opportunities to stop and check out the scenery. Definitely worth the visit. Colorado, Montana, Idaho. Many choices. Do your research and spend some time studying maps. Have a great trip and thanks for watching.

      I drove that route a few summers ago in a car. I was wishing that I was on my motorcycle the entire trip. One of the best parts was no cell phone service for extended periods.

      Yes. If you see a free range cattle sign along the highway, slow down. I've dodged cattle in Montana east of Glacier.

    Really enjoyable! Never thought of getting a windshield? How do you deal with a sore butt on these long travels?

    • @WheelStories
      @WheelStories  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do have a windshield but remove it from the bike when shooting video with the camera mounted to my chest. The video looks better with a clear view through the handlebars. I replaced the stock seat on my BMW with a custom aftermarket seat made by Sargent. I also have a sheep skin covered gel pad that I use on long trips. It works great. Thanks for watching.

    Looks like a nice ride. Apart from time spent at specific stops, what was your ride time thru the park, and were you able to get around stopped lines of traffic ? I've heard you can spend a lot of your time stuck in traffic.
    Thanks for sharing.

    • @WheelStories
      @WheelStories  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I spent about 5-6 hours in the park going from the south entrance to the west entrance with stops in between. I ran into several jams along the way, usually at entrances to popular sites, with traffic stuck in both directions waiting to turn into full parking lots. To be honest, parts of Yellowstone do not appear as the natural wild. More like a drive through zoo or theme park. Just need to be patient and prepared for slow travel once inside.

    I've saw that you change your moto for another BMW, but silver this time. Nice looking, I wunder how many miles you put on the first black one? As I said I've just buy the same black 2002 BMW r1150r , I would like to put alote of millage on it too. Will she survive? Now she have 43,500 miles...
    Tks

    • @WheelStories
      @WheelStories  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have 51,000 miles on my '03 black BMW and 30,000 on the '04 silver model. Do a good job maintaining the bike and it should last a long time. The oil head flat-twin engine is well designed. I plan on keeping both of my bikes for a while.

    Where'd you fine your high vis neon green jacket? Perfect!! Thanks!

    • @WheelStories
      @WheelStories  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wasn't even looking for a jacket when I spotted it on a discount rack at a motorcycle jacket. The price was good. I liked the look. Impossible not to see. So I snagged it. I'm always scanning for trouble while riding in town and I seem to notice that other motorists are watching and aware of me coming. High viz works.

    Hello Wheel Stories. Do you normally travel solo on your rides? Being from the same area we cover a lot of the same ground. Hope to see you out on the road

    • @WheelStories
      @WheelStories  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      More often than not these days I am riding solo. Everyone I know that rides, including myself, is busy fulfilling commitments to family, careers, work, etc. Makes it difficult to schedule trips and weekend rides. I prefer to ride alone when shooting videos. Stopping to mess with cameras and shoot footage would try the patience of fellow riders. Hurry up, dude! Shooting the videos is work and a lot of fun for me but not so much for others. Thanks for watching.

    • @WheelStories

      Hey Donald. Actually my helmet in the Yellowstone video is an HJC. I have several plus some Shoeis. I have always wanted an Arai, however. Most comfortable brand that I have ever put on my head, in the store. But the price tags will melt your credit card. Someday.

    Did you ride from Boise to the Teton Valley? And what roads did you take?

    • @WheelStories
      @WheelStories  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. I took 84 to Mountain Home then highway 20 through Craters of the Moon over to Idaho Falls. Then 26 and 31 to Victor. I spent a couple nights in Victor. Driggs nearby is nice as well. The Teton Valley is beautiful.
