I would argue against that, as if you lack context it's just a bunch of scenes that don't mean anything. I watched a lot of Xeno 2 LP's back in the day and the common theme among those who started at 2 was they tuned out at that point and didn't care at all for anything happening due to not understanding why it's there or it's importance. While if you play 1 first, it hits pretty hard. Did you ever watch Etika play through that part of Xenoblade Chronicles 2? That's the kind of crazy reactions people are missing out on by starting there xD
It's an interesting question. I started with 2, as one of a handful of games available for Switch that first year. When I got to the end, I had a nominal understanding that it was referencing something I hadn't seen yet, but it blended in to the rest of 2's end reveals. (spoilers bellow) I got slightly spoiled about the architect's other half, but in a very round about way. I was watching a review someone made on Xc1, as having sunk tons of hours into 2 I had become curious what the first game was like. The reviewer didn't say what the twist was, seeing as the review itself was made before 2 had come out, but some of the ending cutscene was in the review and I recognized it as the birth of a universe scene from Xc1, which allowed me to connect the dots as to what Klaus was talking about at 2's end. I has also looked into Ontos, as I was curious why 2 was being so mysterious about it, and I read on a forum that people were theorizing he was a character from 1. but other than that I didn't do any more research into 1, until the DE was announced and came out. When I played 1 and got to Prison island, I was confused when the giant was introduced as Zanza, because I knew that was the name of the guy who was supposedly Klaus's other half, and even when Zanza's first twist was revealed, I still didn't fully make the connection until after the game showed the equivalent Birth of a Universe scene. I also pretty quickly made the connection about Alvis, having been unaware that they changed his design, but the Core crystal instantly tipped me off that he was probably who the forum had been talking about, and when he revealed his true nature by the end of the game, I thought it was crystal clear he was Ontos, which was solidified when I went back and suddenly noticed Malos had a Monado of his own in 2. Seeing the reveal in reverse order still hit for me, but I acknowledge it didn't hit the way it was intended to. I'm in that group of people who played 2 first, and while I tend to agree 1 should be played first, a part of me actual still thinks playing 2 first might be a better option for some. I think for people like myself, Xc1 wouldn't have been a good starting point. I thought Xc1 was fine on my first playthrough, but the more I sat with it the less and less I liked it, especially once I joined the fandom proper and was hit with how much hate Xc2 got. I like Xc1 now and have played it through many times, even if I still have big issues with it and like it way less than 2 and 3, but I'm pretty happy I started with 2. 2 is far closer to my tastes, and I fear if I had started with Xc1, I would have bounced off the game and never gone farther into the series, at least not until way later. I was able to get over a lot of my frustrations with Xc1, because of my love of Xc2. I'm probably in the minority there, but I think there are a lot of people like me, and I think there are new fans, who probably would be better off starting with 2. I think going from 1 to 2 can for some, be more jarring than going from 2 to 1. And example of that effect would be How I started the Zelda series with Botw and worked my way backwards through the series. I Really loved games like Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess and Majora's Mask, because of all the ways I could feel they influenced and built up to what botw was like and how the games built on each other. I don't think I would have liked those games if I hadn't played botw first. ironically, I tend to think that starting with the bigger more complicated entry in a series can make playing the earlier, simpler games a more smooth transition. I had gotten so used to playing Xc2 that xc1 felt like an easier game to master. For some, I think it is easier to go from a bigger, bolder, more complicated game and then to a simpler, older, quieter game.
I actually don't think it matters all that much what games you start at. You can also just start at either 1 or 2 if you want to play them cronological.
The definitive guide to starting any long running series should always be release order. People were really filtered by Pyra and Mythra's massive boobage? The real controversy is that they weren't big enough!!!
it was a wild time on the internet to be a fan of 2 back when it launched let me tell ya, it still pops up occasionally but man it was _bad_ back then. There was an entire crusade against 2 simply because it was deemed "too much fan service" by the normies, lol
it depends on how the new content is implemented, but if it's separate like how 1's was (accessible from the main menu) and doesn't immediately start where the original's ending left off, then it'll be totally fine to start from the Definitive version of X as it'll basically be the same experience as the base game just with better graphics (and maybe performance?)
@ Worse case scenario it will be like Xenoblade 3 where you can play it by itself but you will miss some references that make it better. More likely though Monolithsoft will make a sequel to X that connects to the Klaus trilogy instead and the added content in definitive edition will lead to that sequel.
@@Cyrus_Bright yeah so before 3 I watched a story explained also I was in the web snow área and I got stock cause of a missing fiel skill if you know what I mean xenoblade chronicles 2 before pyra and mythra where stolen
Where?? I kept things fairly light in terms of visuals, used a lot of opening scenes and trailer footage 🤔 plus there's zero context to all of this for a newcomer xD
Xenoblade is peak!!!
Indeed!
One does have to understand a very important point: the connection between 1 and 2 goes bowth ways and the reveal works if u play either game firdt
I would argue against that, as if you lack context it's just a bunch of scenes that don't mean anything. Nice video definitely will help out peps
I hope so, there's never been a better time to hop into the series!

Xenoblade X would be fine to be a first Xenoblade game for someone.
