Creating slots while working with a 2D sketch has never been easier. Autodesk Inventor provides 5 different options to create any slot you need in just a few clicks.
this was not really helpful, as it only demonstrates the trivial ways to create slots. I was looking for slots defined by line paths, but the offset tool creates sharp corners without fillets. I would have expected a 2D sweep operation utilizing a circle and the path segments, or a slot tool that directly utilizes paths. Is there a solution that is not ugly in Inventor 2020?

There are a number of ways to create a slot in Inventor. You can definitely sweep a circular 3D body along a 2D path with a subtract option...
It's always such a kick in the pants when I realize I've not been paying attention to the other options in the dropdown menu
