Othni Jones As someone who likes fast cars as well. This specific generation gets a lot of hate despite the revised CVT. I agree, Nissan should still get credit for upping the quality here.
U guys posting about CVTs being unreliable are not correct. I’ve owned 2 Altimas and on my 3rd a CVT and never had any issues. all traded with over 100,000 miles. i did the maintenance as it said at the dealership. Im sure alot of you are copying what others are saying.
While I've owned 2 altimas in my life and both purchased brand new (1995 altima gxe 5 speed and a 2008 Altima 3.5SE V6 CVT) and I had bot of them for 7 years each and 120,000 miles I can give an honest evaluation. The 1995 was great and gave me minimal issues with only the starter going bad at 5 years. It was a great car minus squeaks and rattles. No mechanical problems and never left me stranded. The 08 altima had that big v6 that was amazing when warm but when cold was horribly unrefined and downright rough. It was bullet proof though. Within 2500 miles of owning it the car's entire HVAC unit when AWOL in the dead of summer. After several replacements of particular parts of the HVAC system they decided to gut the entire unit hoses and everything and install everything brand new from scratch. I never had another issue. Car was trouble free for the next 7 years. Changed the cvt fluid at 60k and everything else according to the maintenance. Traded it in before my cvt warranty ran out to avoid a potential big hit if the tranny failed. I will say this I was one of the lucky ones because there was a reason Nissan extended their transmission warranty from 60k to 120k. It was because there were a lot of problems. Hope that they got the bugs worked out. My experience was pretty good. But so many others were not.
This past September I bought a 2019 Altima SV nearly identical to this one in video, same color just minus awd. Bought the Altima on end of clearance sale since my 15 Chrysler 200 3.6 engine failed. After dealing with that ditsy 9 speed for 5 years, I welcomed this nice CVT. Altima's 2.5 Engine has nice amount of power for my needs, had found that nearly 300hp while cool and nice wasn't necessary. This Altima gets really good mpg's, I have had highway miles beyond 45mpgs a few times. Because I bought it at end of year clearance, I received a $7500 discount and was able to extend the warranty. For what I paid for and my needs, this is a nice car. I shopped around with other sedans and it came down to this Atima and Accord EX. It was a tough decision, but the Altima won out with me due to the better deals that I was getting.
Nathan you're such a cool dude, your way of reviewing cars/trucks is absolutely unique and you're always being completely honest with us. honestly, you're such a likeable person, I can tell without having ever gotten to meet you in real life, you just fit perfectly in the tfl team keep it up and stay healthy
I have a G37S and had a 2019 Altima as a loaner, and it wasn't bad at all. Very slow comparatively, but super comfy and I got almost 40mpgs on my one-day commute to work. It felt like a very passable commuter/daily.
The Altima looks so much better even AWD whoever would had thought that a midsize Nissan Altima would have AWD like the body style this model hasn't looked good since 2007 which was the best year of exterior style.
I like the Nissan Altima. I bought one (in 1997). I'm still driving it. It's got 300,000 miles on it. I'm thinking about getting another one. I paid $12,000 out the door. To me $32,000 is a little steep. I think something around $28K or $29K would be more like it. Either way, I'll probably get one. It will probably take to the end of days. :-/
I always did like the Altima, I had one that had a 5 speed manual shift, that one was simply fantastic. I agree with Nathan,..when properly 'dressed' the Altima can give it's bigger brother ( the Maxima ) a run for the money. The Altima always had a spacious rear seat area too. I don't have one today, only because I need a vehicle that can tow stuff.
Good review, Nathan, but I was really just tying to confirm if that was a G-shock on your wrist and what model while watching this. Sorry, just a bit of a Casio fan lately.
Nissan’s zero gravity seats are very comfortable but one thing I don’t understand is, why do they not market them??? My 2019 Titan has them, extremely comfortable, but it took ALOT of research to find out that they put them in the Titan!!! Nowhere on the Maroney does it mention it, nowhere on their website specs does it mention it. It’s hard to find. No cars specs on their website show them from what I could see. They are missing a great marketing opportunity!
Its not silver. Its Gun Metal my friend. The better version has the paddle shifters. I own the 2020 Altima Platinum. With a bunch of upgrades. I own a lot of vehicles. But this being my wife's daily car. Its definitely good. Also the Platinum and SR have the better wheel package.
I think the seats are better in the last gen, I owned one for about 5 months before the hail took it out. I had a rental 2019 while my truck was being repaired and the car was much improved especially body control and steering but the seats are to narrow and I'm not that wide. But compared to a legacy the altima a better feeling car.

The people that constantly bash Nissan and the CVT transmission obviously don’t know PPM, let me break it down Barney style, Proper Preventative Maintenance, if you do this any vehicle would be reliable or last longer, I agree with you about wrenches, they probably can’t even find drain plugs on oil pans either

I recently had a Toyota Camry SE as a rental. It had 18,000 miles on it and I thought it sucked. The whole time I drove it I wondered where all the constant praise of it comes from. Lots of road and wind noise, handling not particularly sharp, had the 4 cylinder and the transmission waffled around trying to decide what gear it wanted to be in between 55-60 mph and the final straw was when I pulled it forward a few feet in a parking garage to reach the trunk. I had backed it in to the spot and it was near a wall. I moved it forward and when I applied the brakes it unexpectedly and inexplicably lurched forward another several inches before it stopped.
Toyota Camry is boring hell I looked at a 2019 Toyota Camry XSE and it sucks Toyota: MORE MORE BORING CARS Me: YEAH RIGHT I’LL BELIEVE THAT WHEN THE CORONAVIRUS DIES DOWN and Toyota makes shitty cars too so don’t like Toyota blow smoke up your ass and say our cars are boring because bitch every last one is boring nice looking but boring as in common as hell
The Altima is one of the last cars I would buy. Having experience in a large fleet with hundreds of these and seeing all the reliability issues, there’s no way I can be convinced yet.
I used to like Altima when it did not have a CVT. Was all the things you are talking about here. I enjoyed driving it. It was comfortable, fun to drive, attractive to a degree. Good MPG. Very well rounded back in the day. Also the price was very reasonable. Reliable. But now.. CVT ruins its appeal.
The Shooter's Bay trust me there’s some people who walk into a dealership and pay sticker. Certain groups of people do it all the time in NYC. But no offense to Nissan, I would turn around and sell it if you gave me one for free.
I drove someone around in my 261k mile 2016 nissan altima who was a subaru mechanic who said they have cvt transmission laying around all over the place and they have a bad oil consumption problem as low as 40k miles. Reliability? This car has great rebates also so you're not paying 32.5 but the only reason this car was that much may have been because of accessories or something because the higher model with leather and awd stickers for 33k
That's great; make that unreliable car even more mechanically complicated and less reliable. All those Low credit score customers cannot have all wheel drive
Have you ever own altima or Nissan I have had them for 30 years never gave a problem or my customers iam I have one camry that have all sorts off problems
I'm sorry, but for $32,500, I'm getting the Mazda 6 Grand Touring Reserve, and a set of snow tires. I owned a 2007 Nissan Altima 2.5 S with a 6 speed manual transmission (bought brand new), and while I liked the car, it didn't leave me with any overwhelming desire to own another Nissan product again, but no underlying hatred of the brand(unlike my past Chevy/Buick/Ford/Mercury experiences). The Mazdas that I have owned, have all made me want to buy other Mazda products.
@@scott8238 Why would they own one if they know it is junk? I have owned them and they were fine. Once. And there are certain aspects of them I miss. But I would not take any product for myself that has a CVT.
Subaru rested too long on being one of the only manufacturers with AWD cars. They need to bail out of the CVT game and get a great auto transmission to differentiate themselves from Nissan, and Nissans cheap AWD CVT market share.
@@scott8238 I still do. Being not what they were from being the best is still very very good. Standards. Are we judging them vs their former self or against their competitors. Against their former selves I think everyone is below them including Toyota. But against their competitors I like Toyota and lexus all day. And in a honda guy.
@@gabevillarreal96 In my experience with Toyota they have really gotten cheap in the last 20 years and no longer own Toyota after my 2005 Tacoma frame rusted out at 80k and then our 2012 yaris transmission lost reverse at 100k. For me the quality is just not there anymore and Ive owned toyotas since the 80s . Nissan cars and trucks have really surprised me with quality and fun factor.
@@scott8238 I agree about the cheapness 100%! No arguing that at all. Lexus seems to be cutting corners as well these days when before that never happened. Doors on hondas and toyotas and Lexus' simply do not sound nearly as solid as they did 20 years ago. But as far as being in the repair shop more than routine maintenance....I'm sticking with the longstanding reputation of a company like Toyota. Honda as well. Nissan will be nissan again when they get rid of their boat anchor that is Renault!
Not a great car, period. Subaru has the edge from 2020 and up to its demise (2025). Nissan is always going to be a low-end, poorly crafted piece of dribble. What were you thinking when you did this video?

I'm just here to read the comments from People regurgitating comments from other biassed you tubers on how bad Nissan is and their CVTs are but yet have never owned a Nissan or even put a wrench on vehicle..smh.
Ive driven a couple they suck
The people that constantly bash Nissan and the CVT transmission obviously don’t know PPM, let me break it down Barney style, Proper Preventative Maintenance, if you do this any vehicle would be reliable or last longer, I agree with you about wrenches, they probably can’t even find drain plugs on oil pans either
I have a 2015 Subaru Legacy Limited that is larger and gets the same fuel economy, maybe a little bit better on combined mpg.
For less money.
Its 5 years old though, seems like apple's to oranges
@@BullittKid08
The 2020 Legacy is rated to get up to 27 mpg in the city, 35 mpg on the highway, and 30 mpg combined.
The Base, Premium, Sport and Limited models are still under $30,000.
Ranging from $22745 - $29745
Cool
I love Nissan vehicles...... Maxima, Altima, Armada, Titan, and Rogue
I rather buy a Toyota Camry! Altimas and all Nissan's with cvt transmissions are unreliable
Toyotas are cheaply made now days and their reputation is built on the 80s and 90s. The CVTs will last if you do the maintenance on them.
I rather buy a Bugatti more luxurious and yeah faster too
Toyota Camry is boring hell I looked at a 2019 Toyota Camry XSE and it sucks Toyota: MORE MORE BORING CARS
Me: YEAH RIGHT I’LL BELIEVE THAT WHEN THE CORONAVIRUS DIES DOWN and Toyota makes shitty cars too so don’t like Toyota blow smoke up your ass and say our cars are boring because bitch every last one is boring nice looking but boring as in common as hell
With the only exception of the Avalon it’s awesome
You should definitely review the new TRD Camary
I will not comply Already did
nathan adlen yea on a closed track. I see it now.
nathan adlen boring just a Camry in a TRD costume at the end of the day it’s STILL A BORING ASS CAMRY‼️
Lol there’s a Subaru ad before ur video started 🙄
Juan Torres HaHa!
Subaru was like hold my beer 🍺
Don’t try to save it, Nissan is doomed with there CVT transmission. Don’t worry about the transmission buy it for the seat
sky nguyen do you even own or are you just going off of what other ppl say about CVTs?
justen ramirez Lackey: I’m sorry you own one ha haaa haaaa
@@tuantrd 🤣🤣🤣
@@MandusahRamirez i owned one. That suck. Drones lack of response. Saving that 1 mpg isnt worth it
The Altima is one of the last cars I would buy.
32.5k a good deal?
I have heard issues with Nissan Altimas with their CVT's. Any truths or comments on this?
At least you’ll be comfortable waiting on someone to come pick you up when it breaks down. Get a Camry.
Yes
Stephen Talley no breaks down and BORING‼️
That’s a nice update but not for 32k.
Who pays MSRP?
The Shooter's Bay trust me there’s some people who walk into a dealership and pay sticker. Certain groups of people do it all the time in NYC. But no offense to Nissan, I would turn around and sell it if you gave me one for free.
My 2020 Legacy sport with navigation and sunroof stickers for 30,000 and whole lot better car in reliability and resale and safety tech
An "island of tranquility"? Have you gotten soft on us, Nathan? Take it to truth or dare!
Shouldn't you have given a good look at the cars exterior firstly?
His video
Better than Subaru?
No matter how comfortable it is, once cvt pooped out whoever owning it will change it tune.
its still altima! blech!
Nissan must have paid you guys to talk good about that junk!
Junk yet you waisted your time watching the video and commenting?
I am using this comment on this weekend’s TFLCar.com post. Thanks.
Prove it, Bull, you know something from Nissan....you work for NIssan....
Subaru make overhyped vehicles for the customer who 'needawdbecauseiwanttobesafe' .
That's great; make that unreliable car even more mechanically complicated and less reliable. All those Low credit score customers cannot have all wheel drive
Kevin Barry what’s unreliable about it ?
Mark C transmission. Electrical. Air-conditioning. Often valve train. Various and sundry's. And now, all wheel drive system
Have you ever own altima or Nissan I have had them for 30 years never gave a problem or my customers iam I have one camry that have all sorts off problems
Kevin Barry and what year is that ? What generation of Altima has those problems?
The old Altima’s with the v6 yes lists of issues lots of plastic parts these new ones are solid
'I gotta spend some money on this, I want the best I can get'. Definitely not Nissan.
Checks the brakes on your Mazda !
@@RayB1656 What?
Bocephus
Nissan's are garbage!! Cvt transmissions are junk
Really do you even own a Nissan?
@@scott8238 Why would they own one if they know it is junk? I have owned them and they were fine. Once. And there are certain aspects of them I miss. But I would not take any product for myself that has a CVT.
Are they still made by JATCO? Those were junk, according to Scotty.
@@scott8238 yes exactly he doesn't know what hes on about only the auto is garbage the manual is good for the price
Then how about you build something that’s not garbage then, genius!
stopped watching at 20s in because CVT's are a complete deal breaker and i could care less about anything else about this car.
Subaru rested too long on being one of the only manufacturers with AWD cars. They need to bail out of the CVT game and get a great auto transmission to differentiate themselves from Nissan, and Nissans cheap AWD CVT market share.
Better than a Camry?
It depends. With the v6 Camry I'd say no. Base engine to base engine I would say yes other than the reliability factor. I trust toyota over Nissan.
@@gabevillarreal96 I use to trust Toyota.
They both have had their hiccups but it doesn't change their history and reputation that precedes both of them when they are mentioned. Nissan will be nissan again when they get rid of their boat anchor that is Renault!
The engine shook like crazy in all the nissans I drove
Not a great car, period. Subaru has the edge from 2020 and up to its demise (2025). Nissan is always going to be a low-end, poorly crafted piece of dribble. What were you thinking when you did this video?
There is no way that's nicer than the new Legacy and they don't offer the V6 in AWD only FWD unlike a a fully loaded turbo Legacy for less than 36grand 34 if you shop still Subie haters,
Nathan I love u to the heavens and back....but wen u support Nissan and compare with other Japanese brands...I loose 99.99999999% on u...but I still love u man,,,🥰🥰
That shitty design they copied from the German's car stereo not cool,,I prefer my stereo in the dash
The worst transmission ever
Junk
Stop talking shit about America's favorite rental car
@@tonychau1983 Funny. I recently had a Toyota Camry SE as a rental. The whole time I had it I was wondering what all the praise is for. The thing sucked in a variety of ways other than fuel economy. I was in the market for a new mid size car and happen to have recently driven the Altima as well. I'd take the Nissan all day every day. It was smooth and the CVT was fine. A little weird when you floor it but its response for 99% of daily driving is fine. I've owned 2 Toyotas in the past. From my personal experience the claim of "bullet proof " reliability is not true. Had issues with both of them.
@@jdm1039 have fun with the nissan. Hope you get a good deal
@@tonychau1983 I haven't bought anything yet but I will tell you from personal knowledge. Have had 2 Nissans in the family as well. All this talk of unreliable junk is also not true. I'd guess that 99% of these posters on this video and on every TH-cam video talking shit about Nissan has zero personal experience or knowledge about what they are saying but they love to flock to these videos and repeat the same thing over and over.
@@jdm1039 driven and owned a cvt vehicle and hated it. I just know it's not for me personally .

Dilpreet Sandhu I am using this comment on this weekend’s TFLCar.com post. Thanks.
#Fail. Nissan wins at NOTHING!
loving these few words phrases ... nothing here !
They need to scrap the CVT. They're uninspiring to drive and unreliable.
@David Malinovsky CVTs are not as reliable as a standard transmission. I had an Altima and two transmissions failed on it. One failed in 14 months. I speak from personal experience.
Can't you just pay a bit more and get an Infiniti?
I’ll buy any Subaru before I buy a Nissan 🤣
I think the honda civic and accord is better than this car.
Just not the 1.5t, but hey, you can still get the reliable 2.0NA on the Civic, and the 2.0/10AT config on the Accord hasn't racked up too many complaints either
Honda's oil dlution, no thank you
Awd with a cvt that gonna be useless
Sponsored by Nissan. I've seen a lot Nissan Titan and now this. This channel is ready to go downhill.
