I like to think the terrible names for humans are because the story is actually told from a Pokemon's perspective and they don't actually now their names, just made them up as they go.
This comment is absolute gold and it deserves more attention.
The weird names were actually a deliberate choice made to make Orre feel distinct and foreign in comparison to previous regions. The Japanese names for the characters are different, but they’re still just as odd.

Hearing that she beat the colosseum 3 times for shadow ball, and gave it to Espeon in a gen when shadow ball was a physical move makes me feel immense pain.
Very glad the physical/special split started in the next gen. Having the types decide if a move was physical or special was neat but really limiting for so many pokemon and moves. And WHY did shadow ball reduce spf. defense instead of defense!?! So dumb.

I... Love Weh. Legit knew a girl from high school that was ultra quiet.
Nobody sat with her. Some thought she was abused; some said she was a murderer; & some really reached saying she was for all intents & purposes (in a fuckton of words) an SCP (with some chilling lore).
When I learned what her address was from her cousin (she graduated 2 years before I did), I decided to pay her a visit.
She was so fucken quiet bc she was an avid Pokémon fan, especially in the creepypasta areas of the fandom.
She *_EXCELLED_* at it, & I love creepypasta fiction bc it's oftentimes VERRRRRRRRRY scary, occasionally it seems believable.
I lost my shit, I was so excited. Her face brightened up, she cracked a smile, & her eyes began to look like they were burning. Then she began crying, thanking me for not being a bully & sharing at least one interest. We became OUTSTANDINGLY good pallies. To this day, I still talk to her by text.
What's with teens and imagining other students are murderers without any real provocation. Like some kids in my brother's year, 2-3 years younger, started a similar rumor about me. I didn't particularly care, I mostly found it hilarious. However I still wonder how they even got that idea, since as far as I knew I had never even interacted with them.
When someone's quiet they don't know what they're thinking and uncertainty just makes everything seem plausible. Especially in this day and age I just heard a key to myself because I'm blind and I always just did my own thing and I just wear headsets. Also teenagers and kids are vicious you show any sign of weakness they'll devour you and anything seen is too childish instant bully material

Mind I have no clue if it was the same ones in any of the instances. his year had a reputation for being assholes and according to my brother, who had left the school by then, did the Hitler salute in a senior year class photo, which the school in their infinite wisdom added to the yearbook.

Dude, that's awesome! People need to be nicer to us quiet nerds. Freshman year of high school, I had a different lunch period then my friends, so I just found a quiet spot to eat alone. One day, two older girls were walking past me and the we're asking me why I was eating alone and stuff. I just ignored them because I didn't feel like talking to upbeat preppy people when I just wanted to eat my lunch. They decided my unwillingness to answer meant that, clearly, I was a foreign exchange student who couldn't speak English. Even after I tried to pipe up, they just ignored me, so yeah. Be nice to quiet people. We're trying our best.

interesting tidbits I learned from watching the stream vods because it's been 9 days since I've first watched this video and I'm still completely obsessed:
The only Pokemon to have lines in stream 1/5 is Espeon, with his “I’ll wait in the car while you guys do terrorism”
However, this line is not actually from the cutscene, it’s from later on when Yam (girl playing game) checks Umbreon and Espeon’s natures
The next Pokemon to have lines are in stream 2/5, Weh first, and then Trefor.
Trefor literally never got to use moves for most of stream 2 because she’d go into hyper mode every turn
There isn’t really a transition between “Umbreon and Espeon are best friends” and “Umbreon and Espeon are boyfriends” it just sorta happens when Swablu shows up
Umbreon regularly attacks members of Doctors Without Borders for fun
When pre-Umbreon asked pre-Espeon to tape a knife to his back, it was because he wanted to be the first eevee to evolve into a steel type
In the matching cups bit, Jello originally wanted Espeon’s cup to be like “No. 1 ‘Person who does embroidery’” but couldn’t think of a word for it so he just said fuck it

It's really a testament to y'all's talent that despite all of you voicing each of these Pokémon at different points in time, sometimes even within the same joke, I can still hear the difference in the performance and pick out which character is which. That's impressive.

The bit that always gets me when I rewatch this is how you guys made up a story for one of the one-off NPCs, then leave his Aipom with him instead of snagging it. Like your own roleplaying made you play the game "wrong" and I think that's really charming :)

See, Pokémon games can be fun on their own, but they can be MADE so much MORE fun as you invent personalities and narratives for them all. This sort of video is how I wished everyone played Pokémon, making up random hijinks of action, romance, and both silliness and occasional seriousness, just to blend it all together in a super fun cocktail

I second the recommendation for you to watch the friendlocke, but also this is exactly what I do with mine. For example, I like to imagine that my Absol in Ultra Sun taught my Leafeon leaf blade by sharpening its head leaf like Absol's horn, if that makes sense
I like that other people give their Pokémon personalities when they play. I thought I was the only lame kid who did that back in the day.
This kind of vaguely consistant improv humor-commentary is a subgenre of Let's play that has given me probably the most joy & laughter out of anything I've ever watched, and sadly I've only seen two channels that have been able to pull it off, These guys and PressButtonsAndTalk.

I come back to this video every now and then for shits and giggles but every time i do i just get struck by like, and incredibly specific vision about Weh! and their content.
Like, at work clearly at work in business they're clearly the like, very monotone "I'm just here for the paycheck" type, work good don't socialise much etc. They're not disliked but they're not friends with anybody, you're used to seeing them around but always kinda in the background.
Then one day you're 4am deep in a youtube recommendation deep dive, you've followed so many rabbit holes you've breached the earth's mantle, you're on that _niche_ content. And as you're blearily absorbing a video about the cheese-making techniques of ancient civilizations or something instead of putting out some Zs, something clicks. You're not sure what, but something's tickled the recognition centre in your brain. You go to their channel, but it's all too anonymous to trigger anything futher. You watch another of their videos. Then another. It's 5am now. You watch more. 6am. Dawn is sliding the first glow under your curtain. _Finally_ the neurons fire and you recognise the voice. It's Weh, but full of a life and enthusiasm you've never heard, a level of mirth so alien it sounds like an entirely different person. The video's are _good_ too, high quality of production, regular uploads, sited sources, all the signs and energy of a proper labour of love on a topic you'd not heard of before.
The cocktail of relief, surprise and sleep deprivation finally knocks you out 15 minutes before your alarm, but as you stumble into work half-dead and with more caffine than blood in your veins, you spot them again, in the background as usual, and through the haze you can still recall their enthusiastic lectures about, idk Mesopotanian Brie or How The Viking's Steamed Clams. It feels comforting, to know that they have something that makes them happy, and on hte lunch break their subscriber count ticks up one more.
