      U have it where u work,I’m certain.
      This summer we (age:11&13)have
visited Jasenovac and they were shocked by what was happened there.
I see,u have covered that issue to. I shall send them links.
In my time, this was a must. But at school we have not learned of handzar nothing into deep.
Raar, begonnen met Nederlands,geëindigd met Engels. 😆

Great video! Finally, a true historian from the West who will look at the past of the Balkan conflicts objectively and in depth. I would add that the cause of the conflict in Bosnia is identity assimilation during the Ottoman occupation and Austro-Hungarian annexation.

This video provides an incredibly detailed and eye-opening look into the dark history of the Bosnian SS Handschar Division. The thorough research and presentation of facts shed light on the division’s formation, its brutal actions during World War II, and the impact it had on the region and its people. The use of historical footage, personal testimonies, and expert commentary really brought the story to life and emphasized the terror and devastation caused by this division.
I appreciate how the video doesn't shy away from the complexities of the division’s origins, including the political and social factors that led to its creation. It’s a stark reminder of how ideology and manipulation can lead to horrific consequences.
Overall, this video is a must-watch for anyone interested in WWII history, particularly the lesser-known chapters of the war in the Balkans. Kudos to the creators for producing such an informative and respectful exploration of a painful yet important part of history.

24:37 this is what can be corroborated by what famous writer and partisan at the time Mesa Selimovic wrote in his book Memories or Sjecanja. I will paraphrase him, he stated that arrival of Handschar division to perform anti-partisan operations meant for partisans that they will have a lack of sleep for weeks, because the division units would keep pursuing partisans for a few weeks and partisans had to keep maneuvering to evade fights with them just so they would return back to their starting position once the division members ended operation, that division was a nuisance but it could not turn the tides of war in Yugoslav theater against partisans, it was introduced too late in the war to matter.

Excellent documentary that sheds light on a little known area of WWII in the Balkans. With respect to the coup against the Pact with Hitler, that was orchestrated, with full British support, by Serbian staff officers in 1941. That slap in the face to Hitler, launched him into a rage against Yugoslavia and the Serbs. Churchill praised the coup leaders saying "Yugoslavia has found its soul..." but it was really the Serbs who were anti-German. The rest of the ethnic groups like Croats, Albanians and Bosnians, enthusiastically embraced the Nazis cause.

Did you know that Kama means special curved knife?
Croatian Ustasha invented it to quickly cut throats during executions, instead of using normal knife to see saw cutting throats.
They had competitions in concentration camps who can execute more people (mainly captured Serbian civilians in Jasenovac) using Kama knife.
Record was more then 1000 people by one Ustasha doing is non stop.
Countless Serbs were murdered in bestial fashion like this, including children.
Communists tried to hide just how brutal execution methods were used (like wood cutting saws to cut people heads).
Hundreds of thousands of Serbians were executed like this.
This kind of trauma stayed in Serbian nation for a long time, even though communists tried all they could to hide what was really going on in these camps.
Once you understand just how horrific murders were, it was truly hell on earth.
      So there you go.
That's what Kama stands for - to instill fear in Serbian population as they know what Kama is.
Executions by Ustasha were arguably the most gruesome in modern recorded history, but not much is reported about it.

a fantastic video and a few really good historical facts about the Bosnian Handschar SS.
Unfortunately, I'm missing three very important facts.
    1. The fact that the Croatian Ustasa carried out several murders of the Serbian population and deliberately wore the Bosnian headgear (fez) in order to pin the murders on the Handschar so that the conflict between Bosniaks and Serbs would grow.
    -
    2. The Bosnians increasingly realized that they were being exploited and deceived by Nazi Germany for their own purposes, contrary to the agreement. In addition, they understood what happened to the Jews after the deportation. Above all, the realization of what happened to Roma and Jews led to many defecting to the partisans and not the Allied landing in Normandy. That was just a coincidence.

    3. Unfortunately, in France (Villefranche-de-Rouergue) a memorial stone was erroneously erected with the words "in memory of the brave Croats" or something like that, although during the uprising there were less than 5% Croatian people in this unit. Today many Croatian hobby historians claim that there were 1/4 Croatian soldiers in the Handschar, which is absolute nonsense! Just because a Bosnian came from a Croatian part of the NDH did not immediately make him a Croat. The same applies if the surname was not 100% Muslim, that does not mean that this person had to be a Croat. That could have perhaps been mentioned here.
    -
Perhaps this historical error, which the Croats welcome, will be corrected at some point and written "in memory of the brave Bosnians" or something like that.

History is full of manipulations on the territory of the former Yugoslavia. The truth is a little different. It is a fact that the grandfathers of Muslims from Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in large numbers in the military units of the NDH. They were in Ustasha military units (volunteers) and in regular military units (home guards). Bosniaks were internationally recognized under that name (Bosniaks) in 1993. They were recognized as a separate nation in 1972 under the name Muslims. At the time of the Second World War, that nation was officially considered Croats. Please note that the official name of the Handžar SS unit was "13th Waffen Mountain Division SS Handschar (1. Croatia)". They had the Croatian coat of arms on their uniforms. So, the "Ustaše" were the grandfathers of the Bosniaks, and today they tell the Croats that only they were the Ustaše...

Formation of the 16th Muslim Strike Brigade
In the Orthodox village of Bukvik near Brčko, on September 21, 1943, the 16th Muslim Assault Brigade was formed by order of the headquarters of the First Bosnian Corps. April 5 and 6, 1945, when Sarajevo was liberated, was written in golden letters in the annals of the brigade. Fighters of the 16th Muslim Strike Brigade were the first to enter liberated Sarajevo and hung the partisan flag on the Town Hall. A member of the 16th Muslim Strike Brigade was Sheriff Buljubasic, who after his release was a respected diplomat. Buljubasic married Sadeta Pozderac with whom he had two children - Sena and Sead. Sherif and Sadeta are the grandparents of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Vuk Jeremic, later the Chairman of the United Nations General Assembly. Vuk Jeremić's ancestors are also Murat-aga Pozderac, and he is also the great-grandson of Nuria Pozderac, who was the vice-president at the first session of AVNOJ. Nurija Pozderac died in the battle on Sutjeska.
A total of 3,382 fighters fought
From the formation of the 16th Muslim Strike Brigade to the end of the war, 3,382 fighters passed through the brigade. The composition of the brigade comes from 175 municipalities of Tito's Yugoslavia, and most fighters were born in Tuzla Municipality - 344, then Modriča 219, Bijeljina 194, Gradačac 190, Brčko 158...
As many as 77.6 percent of the brigade members were under the age of 25, and only 3.7 percent were older than 35. The youngest fighter was 4, and the oldest 61 years old. The brigade included members of 12 nationalities: 1962 Muslims, 1084 Serbs, 168 Albanians...

Today, every year for the past 6 decades, the French town of Villefrance-de-Rouergue has a commemoration of these Bosniak-Croat soldiers on September 17
In 1943, on the night of September 16-17, 1943, an open rebellion against the Germans took place in this battalion. The first in occupied Europe.
The 13th SS Mountain Division was established on the initiative of Bosnian Muslim champions, who in their "Memorandum" of November 1942 complained about the Chetnik massacres against Muslims.
The ringleaders of the rebellion were: Ferid Dzanic, Eduard Milutinovic, Nikola Vukelic, Luftija Dizdarevic and Bozo Jelenek. They had some contacts with the French resistance leaders, but all this is still insufficient, unprepared. Who knows what made them make this desperate move - at the moment when all the great powers of Europe succumbed to the German invader. At a time when Bosnia needed them more than ever, to return to her. And to her people. The causes of the rebellion have not yet been definitively clarified, but the anti-fascist mood of the leaders, Dzanic, Milutinovic and Vukelic, certainly contributed to their decision. It seems that they were deceived by one of the members of the French Resistance.

And if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. Eugene was not German or Austrian, but French and Italian. Both in French and Italian, the stress is on the second syllable. On top of that, the name itself is Greek (Ευγένιος, meaning "noble"), and in Greek, as is indicated by the acutus, the stress is also on the second syllable.

No that analogy is not correct you can’t make that analogy, the Bosnian Muslims were not in any way threatened or persecuted by the Serbs until they started attacking Serbian villages and killing innocent Serbian civilians as they opportunistically became a proxy for the German Nazi occupation power and they also allied with the Croatian fascist Ustashas committing horrendous crimes against Serbs in Bosnia and Hercegovina, the attacks from Serb formations towards Bosnian Muslims was only reactive actions as revenge because of atrocities that the Bosnian Muslims committed before, these revenge attacks we’re mainly committed in rage eye for a eye and unfortunately Bosnian Muslim civilians were also not speared in these attacks, but they themselves provocad this with their actions if they hadn’t done what they did in the first place there wouldn’t have been any reason for rage against them and this kind of revenge reaction from the Serbs wouldn’t occur. There is a saying that describes this very well, you reap what you sow.

I do not think that it was a shame for the Muslims to have served in the SS in the same way that it was not a shame for Indians to have served in the SS and in the Japanese sponsored armies. These were people who were occupied and abused by those that they fought against and were justified to take whatever side was willing to support them. The most evil empire in history was the British Empire because no other empire controlled such a vast area and oppressed as may people and for such a long period, over 200 years. So yes the British were not better than the Nazis, and neither were the French, the Spanish, the Dutch and the Americans (complicit in the genocide of indigenous peoples). In British ruled India, in 1943, over six million Indians starved to death as a result of British government's actions. A number almost identical to the number of Jews that perished in the Holocaust.

The Ustashas were not a racist movement. They had both Serbs and Muslims represented in the government, Jews were never their target. They were primarily fighters against the Belgrade Great Serbian ideology. Nobody says what the Serbs did to the Croatian political giants during the First Yugoslavia, they killed and persecuted them like dogs. What the author of this vision is saying is so funny.
