- Can you get better fuel economy with a fuel additive? In this video, we make TH-cam History by testing a fuel additive to see if it will actually give you better fuel economy. I sent out 20 bottles of the fuel additive to my subscribers to test their fuel economy. They went a total of 56,000 miles and the results are in! Here is the product I used: goo.gl/V16Hu3
The test was proven to be statistically significant using a T-test by subscriber SX L after dopping the volvo outlier which means we got an average of .54mpg increase.

Wow. An honest car guy who doesn't believe in myths and legends, and actually does actual science.
Newly subscribed, and looking forward to seeing more good stuff!
Alexander Borsi you should try watching Mighty Car Mods they do some pretty similar things
if ur looking for that mighty car mods is shit, half of the stuff they do is NOT factual in any way... engineering explained is a great youtuber similiar to chris. No BS
I agree - this is some of the best science I have seen on the 'net in years. I love the clear statement of what is being tested and especially the data gathering. I would have cast out the one outlier (especially since we are looking for what we can expect) and would have expressed the changes in percent instead of mpg because one mpg means a lot more in a Ram than in a Prius, but we have the data available to do just that. When we convert the data to percent, we see the second to the last (Big Guy Review) is also a bit of an outlier, at 14%. Probably the same effect Chris surmised - the injectors needed the cleaning. With just the one outlier removed the average change is +2%, with both dropped from the list the average change is still within one point.
Alexander Borsi well its Car Mods more than anything, this Chris is about catering to the average Joe
Good grief I hope none of you still think this is "science" by any stretch of the imagination. "Best science"? No wonder people fall hook, like and sinker for things like "man made global warming" and the current Plandemic.
They see a show or a teleprompter reader on the News and think "OMG! We're in trouble! We'd better do something -anything- fast!!" Yeah, we're in trouble as evidence by the lack of reasoning found in this thread.
Throw out the one obvious outlier, and you get an average of 0.48 increase in MPG.
+anti0918 Discarding the obvious outliers at both extremes is exactly what should be done. If the improved mileage is due to cleaning injectors, that improvement should be sustained for some period of time thereafter with subsequent tankfuls not containing the additive. I think that those data would be interesting. My guess is that the small improvement in fuel economy will be promptly lost. Perhaps Chris can contact his testers and ask them whether improvement was sustained.
+anti0918 Thanks for sharing!
+Greg Snyder that's cool, what kind of job, financial analyst? Thanks for ur opinion
Greg Snyder
I certainly don't think that Chris is trying to plug a specific product at all. He fully disclosed the Volvo figures and pointed out the deviation from others. He also repeated that he saw no benefit in his own car. So, if that's a commercial endorsement for his own profit, it's certainly a very unconvincing one. I sure wouldn't use the stuff in my car.
Chris makes high quality videos that undoubtedly help many people save a lot of money. I, for one, have learned several things from them. He deserves our support.

“HEY GUYS, CHRIS FIX HERE”. First super enthusiastic intro ... beginning of an era :’ )
The beginning of the modern day ChrisFix :p
Chris,
I've recently discovered your videos and all I can say is "WOW" and "THANK YOU!"
I recently purchased a 2002 Honda Accord SE with 196K miles, and your vids have been very helpful with me fixing the few things that needed work on the car.
I used to have a 1994 Saturn SC1/5-speed. Bought it new, and it was the best car I've ever had. Sadly it got totaled when I was the middle of a 3-car accident (234K miles on it). I am an easy driver, doing mostly highway miles in the LA area. Averaged 26,000 miles a year or so. My mileage would be anywhere between 27 & 32 in town, upwards of 37 mpg on a pure road trip.
I would try different fuel cleaners, usually Gum-Out, adding it every 5,000 miles. Whether they really helped or not I never knew, but I figured what the hell, it's $5 - 7 bucks, what could it hurt?
Anyway, about 15 years ago and with around 160K miles on the Saturn, I tried a fuel additive that I found in a WalMart that was made by (of all companies) Turtle Wax. I forget what it was called, but it was some fancy/exotic name, and cost about $10.00
Added to an empty tank. Filled up & got my usual close to 400 miles on a tank of gas.
BUT...after running that one tank, my mileage increased tremendously! In town was now always over 30, and road trips were between 39 & 42 (my all-time high)!!
Started using it every 5,000 miles. After running a tank of gas, the mileage would shoot back up to the high numbers. Told all my friends about it, and they got similar results.
And suddenly, around 2004, it was no longer available. I contacted Turtle Wax (letters, email, phone), and never got an answer as to why it was off the market.
I'm not a conspiracy theorist but who knows - maybe the oil companies bought it out & killed it...
I wish I could remember the name of the product. And I wish it was back on the market.
Thanks again for the great vids & all the best to you!

Turtle Wax is far from dead - a family member of mine works in the company that owns them. I'll ask if they ever sold fuel additives and see what they say
Soooo what did they say?
Hey Chris,
Fred here I ran MAXX Fuel Supplement Company long before I saw your Honda dyno test video.
My background is CAT, CUMMINGS, DETROIT, MACK AND CASE. Have certificates for two of the above mentioned. I have about forty years of experience, retired now. I have three bucket of bolts I've used MAXX in; a 93 Concorde 3.5 v6, a 96 F250 5.0 v8 and 08 LIBERTY 3.7 V6 . They all achieved minimal increase in mileage and since all three are 125,000 + miles it seemed to me it breathed a little new life in the old buckets!!!
Another thing I find interesting is everybody talks about HORSEPOWER when in actuality TORQUE is what does the WORK!!! For the novice torque is what moves a car, train or ship!!
You really did a lot of work to provide us accurate research data!
Thank You So MUCH for this hard work! 🙏🏽
I'm sure engine condition, age, and build play great factors in how much improvement was seen. a clean engine wouldn't benefit as much as an engine that could use some cleaning. great video thanks for putting this all together. I use the Lucas Complete Fuel System Cleaner in my truck. probably because I'm ocd but would love to see if their product makes a difference as well!
I've never been a big fan of 90's model sports cars, but I gotta say your corvette is an exception to that. Seeing it sitting there at night with the headlights on and the lamp lights shining on it, just a beautiful car. 👍👍👍
Unfortunately those cars rode like buck board wagons..
26 mpg with a vette is quite impressive.
+Marios Pantouvanos i avg'd 27 mpg with the ac on cruising at 85 in my e36 325is, it all depends on the gearing and nothing more
That was because he was on the highway, if in Los Angeles traffic you will get much less
kuhataparunks you gotta cruise at like 55 to get that mileage in a vette, I m sure the rear end ratio is higher than a 3.15
teh vee teh vee With my 05 ford focus C-max I got 36.5 mpg us @75 mph with ac on and five people in the car, 200 lbs of luggage and a bike on the rack. My engine is a bone stock 1.8 liter Duretec HE.
Marios Pantouvanos I could get better in a geo metro, my car has a 2.5 liter m50b25nv.
Nice test, but I think this proves that the fuel additive doesn't work, at least not enough to pay for itself.
+alllmega Right; unless it also cleans your fuel injectors, which would make it worth while to use occasionally.
Strange but true, an ounce to 8 to 10 gallons of (no ash tcw-3) 2 cycle oil can increase fuel economy. LT-1 Website explains it very well. Works in a Saturn and a Lincoln we own...Also helps to negate bad effects of alcohol in today's fuel.....
You can deff feel 10 hp if you have less than 200hp. Figure at 200hp that is a 5% increase in speed.
Good point!
5% increase in hp doesn't mean 5% increase in speed...
bahhaziz I did not mean to say speed, meant power(as in seat of the pants feeling).200hp moving a 2000 lb car vs 210hp moving a 2000lb car is 5% increase.
If you change 10 hp in a 500hp car you won't feel anything, less than a 2% change.
Of course weight factors in making the overall power feeling less than perfect word power.
now, I agree 👍
bahhaziz Yeah I noticed it after submitting the comment and didn't feel like editing :P
ChrisFix keeping it real. I love the community involvement and your channel. I'm really looking for stuff that works because my 1980 k10 gets very poor mileage. Thank you!
Chris you are awesome. You made me get back into taking care of my own car with passion. Thanks dude.
The problem with this (or any test that anyone would do) is that the fuel itself is always different. There's really no consistency, but amazing video !
Man, I love you ChrisFix!
+CONFIG T Thanks man!
That's pretty much my view of these additives - they are best used to clean the fuel system/injectors, then use them occasionally to maintain it.
+mrman17 Thanks for sharing!
Doing a t-test (used to compare sets of data) of the 20 entries on the data sheet, and there is a 73.2% chance of the difference being due to random variance. Also, the standard deviations is much larger than the difference between the averages, which usually indicates that the difference is due to random variance (though in this case it is also due to using different cars).
+Ben R agree here..Only people who had statistics would know. the conclusion should have been: there is no statistical evidence that this product increased mpg...
Which t-test did you use?
Chenyu Lin Student's t-test
ANOVA would have been better
Sorry - was just watching like 5 of his fuel tests in a row. Was thinking it would be nice if they were all put together and compared to one another.
Great way to do an awesome legitimate test with many different types of road conditions and driving Styles and vehicle types involved!
+Tyson Capel thanks!
the 11 mpg increase entry should be discarded.
+Ben Tj Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely agree. It skewed the entire analysis. Throw out the high, and low, and recalculate. But I love chris’ videos
I agree. If you plot the data in a graph this is a definite outlier.
C'mon, it's a Volvo! Let the guy have some fun!
It might’ve thrown off the number a little bit. If you look at the amount of people who got negative gas mileage and subtract the outlier which was 1.3 then you have 3 people who got less than -1 mpg and still quite a few people who got more than +1 mpg from this stuff.
Rob and Chris are TH-camrs based on cars in NJ, man I love this state.

Hey Chris. First I want to say I love your videos. I watch them out of pure entertainment and as a learning experience. But out of curiosity. I've been working at Autozone for quite some time now and we are ALWAYS selling Lucas Fuel System cleaner. We claim it does so much but I've never seen positive results personally. You should try and do a video on Lucas considering how much we make it sound so great.
I did a whole fuel system cleaning series and nothing really worked the way you would think. Here are all the videos you can pick from (and lucas too): th-cam.com/play/PLvKbarVtwhUue-xwasd2WUMrkK0CEm6yy.html
well done Chris from the west cost I can't see how someone dislike this video is great and we're a community for sure
+Eduardo silva Thanks a lot Eduardo!
I have my own experience with fuel system cleaners. I used Wynn's Petrol treatment on my 1994 Mercedes E-class petrol. It was sitting for about 3 years and it startet on the first try, so not like your driftstang ;-). But the gas-mileage was pretty bad for a four cylinder. About 12.5L/100km (18.8 mpg). I used the earlier mentioned additive and it worked pretty well. Under similar conditions, my Merc uses about 9L/100km (26.1 mpg). So that's an increase of ~28%. That's pretty amazing.
I just want to say, that you're awesome ChrisFix. Keep doing!
Greetings from a new fan from across the pond (Vienna, Austria)

ChrisFix, I have watched a few of your videos and have subscribed as of this video. You break things down to the base level, its easy to comprehend, fairly entertaining if you are into automotive performance, and most importantly accurate. The level of detail you go into even with explaining why you did a test a certain way is more than welcome, it should be a standard for everyone doing a review video. Well done sir, and I look forward to seeing more of your test videos, including AMSOIL tests as I love using their Synthetic Oil.
1mpg for how much money? I highly doubt the price of the increased fuel economy was enough to justify the additive price.
madjimms it is probably made for slower cars
remember it did increase horse power a good bit which would make me think this test is inconclusive and use my head that it does increase MPG. Lets put our thinking caps on and realize increased HP means less straight on the car to pick up and if you drive it the same mpg should go up.
you can buy one bottle that treats 480 gallons for 37.41, so if an average car gets say 24 mpg, that's 20 gallons you saved by the end of the bottle, and depending on where you live that can be upwards of 40~60$
Except, the outlier wasn't thrown out. The actual avg was like 0.5 mpg, and even that might be due to random variables.
I suspect it does help improve mpg an incredibly small amount, but only because it helps clean your system. After your system is cleaned, you don't need to add more of the additive in it to see that small benefit.
@@runemage9008 In the Netherlands 20 Gallons is way more than 60$. 1 US Gallon = 3.7 LITERS, I pay 1.60 euro's (AT LEAST) per liter, so it's like 5.92 euro's per gallon, times 20 = 118.4 euro's saved, or roughly 130 dollars. I'm definitely trying this stuff.
Great video. This is about the best REAL WORLD test I've seen. It's not some controlled lab test on some closed track with no traffic. Driving the same car with the same driver. We all live in different parts of the US. With different weather conditions, cars, traffic conditions. Drive patterns and drive styles. A lab might "replicate" real world conditions but it doesn't beat the real thing. That is the reason a car might go 400,000 miles in a lab without any issues but will struggle to make it 100,000 miles in the real world. A lab might duplicate the real world but it will never be able to truly be the real world.
And this was all done by a TH-camr...I can't even imagine the work that went into this!
+Tesoromio22 I know right?
reread yoir comment and think for a second what you have said...all test should be done in a lab with controlled variables. maybe the real world will be more demanding, but the point of testing is being able to reproduce the same variables again and again so you can JUST focus on playing with one variable and be sure theres no other unvoluntary changes that might bastradize the test without you knowing...internet wannabe scientists...
don trump While I know you're correct, a semi truck fleet manager says that every lab test that's run gets half the result in the real world.
don trump Variables is what makes some lab test completely inaccurate in the real world. Those variables in the lab are knows as everyday people in the real world.
watched "easy fix" on headlights, now I'm here... yo man your videos are great hahah!
That is a beautiful C4, I love it. I appreciate your testing these products and posting your results.
You know Chris, I have been following you for some time now and I don't know if you will read this but I greatly appreciate you making these videos. I remember when I didn't have my driving license yet, I was watching your videos and it greatly motivated me. Now that I have my license, I feel like a child in a candy shop. I appreciate your way of speech, the manners you have and the mindful approach you take. My compliments for that. If you have any tips for new drivers then they are more than welcome. Thanks a lot, greetings from Europe.
I'm amazed of how scientific and systematic a youtube test can get. Thanks for your great effort, guess I'd have a try lol
if this is scientific to you then you should go back to high-school
Nice corvette! It's amazing!
+Finn Martin Thanks a lot!
11 MPG increase on that one dudes car?? Shoulda thrown his test out..no way
I just came across this video , and I actually have used a bottle of purple royal on a 4runnrr I bought second hand and I'm pretty sure it was poorly taken care of anyways I used the fuel additive and went for long trip , and I was super shocked when I did the math and I got 38 miles per gallon . Which was was way more than I usually get ok highway , like 21 . I was even loaded same passengers , same bags as this is a routine trip I do . Just sharing my personal experience lol
Yea needs another test for that car alone
Lazaro O like he said tho that was probably a car w dirty injectors that got cleaned and increased mpg
Chris you have one of the most informative car videos hands down! I'd love to see one about fixing wheel bearings and how you know when you should fix them. Thank for the vids!
ChrisFix, you're brining your channel to a new level. Love it.

BRO..... why do you not have more subscribers???!! You got data from different cars, from different locations, different environments, different temperatures. I know you didnt exactly get a control group or double blind studies but this is the most comprehensive and complete testing on cars ive ever seen.
My second youtube comment. Congratualtions lol
One problem though is you don't know if everyone was using the same method to calculate mpg, could have been a lot of errors and variables depending how they were calculating( at fill up etc, using the mpg on their dash if applicable, or just arithmetic error). Also weather patterns in different parts of the US could have changed during the duration of the test.
Awesome review Chris!
+MudRFunR Thanks a lot!
i can't believe you drove all those miles with no radio lol .....great review by the way
Awwwwwe I love your Corvette Chris. You don't see too many of those downunder and yours is so pristine. Kudos for keeping it so beautiful.
As for the fuel additive, many products I see on youtube available in the US aren't available here, so for what it's worth, as a brand, I like "LiquiMoli".
When it comes to a fuel additive increasing mpg, there are things to consider on what the additive actually does. What can increase mpg in a fuel additive?
1) Reducing upper ring friction. The top ring does not get much lubrication. So having something in the fuel additive that reduces this friction can increase mpg. Also injectors that are not metering the fuel correctly due to wear can benefit from this also increasing mpg.
2) Reducing the surface tension of the fuel. This allows the fuel to atomize with the air better. If your injectors happen to have a bunch of mileage and they do not even have to be dirty. They can benefit from a fuel additive that does this
3) Increasing the burn temperature of the fuel. Not the ignite temperature but the actual burning temp. Increasing this ensures that more of the fuel burns and a more complete burn
4) Raising octane. Octane is the fuel's resistance to burn. Which on a poorly tuned car corrects the computer retarding the ignition timing to compensate.
So according to what your car needs determines which type of additive will increase your mpg. Example: Chris used a Vette. Vettes are known for having precise fuel metering injectors and computers programs to control it. This is to get the most HP while also getting the most mpg. So because the factory focuses on this with this car I suspected when Chris used it in the test that we would see no increase in mpg. So what this tells me is that this fuel additive is probably a surface tension modifier that better atomizing the gas. So on cars that do not have this problem, it will basically do nothing. But cars that need help in this area, it will seem like an answer to prayer as a car can probably get anywhere from 3-5 mpg when atomization is the problem and the additive becomes the fix.
Your corvette is so clean 😍
That Volvo threw the data over the hill.
My conclusion: it did not work.
I will trust Chris's data, since he followed the exact same route. Therefore, any changes in elevation (or traffic conditions, since the traffic was light in both tests) were negated in Chris's test using his Vette.
I do not know if the other testers used the same testing discipline...
Exactly what I thought! Feel free to stop by for more things which I have tested for MPG's.
Love the community and testing, keep it up guys!
Love the concept of this video, how you broke down the data, and even included some subscribers. That’s dope!
This pretty much proves it doesn't work. 4% difference in fuel economy is next to nothing, and could be attributed to different driving style when using additives. Not to mention it would be worse if you didn't take into consideration top and bottom results (11mpg increase... yeah)
Your test in a corvette also doesn't prove anything. Even slight wind can change fuel economy at highway speeds, so you may have been driving down and upwind when you drove in two directions. Only test that could prove anything would be a synthetic test with motor on a dyno. That's the only way to remove variables.
or with cruise control.
I agree
cruise control makes it worse, because it will keep the speed exactly the same and you don't even notice the effects of wind or hills on the throttle position, because the throttle control is completely out of your hands. that effect also decreases fuel economy overall when using cruise control instead of manual efforts, because the car prioritizes holding constant speed over constant throttle position. that's fine in a completely neutral setting, but as soon as hills, wind or other environmental factors play into the mix, cruise control performs very poorly as far as fuel economy is concerned. it's just about convenience.
+schlafanzyk Well of course it doesn't do well with hills because that is where the engine will change rpms just to maintain the same speed
revving higher or lower
MasterBata 4% is a lot!
if you would run your car for a long time with that stuff
just guess how much more you would get out of your car!
Its a good test but most results are within a margin of error you expect. Overall you don't really expect huge changes to your engine with an additive, its designed to clean and extend the life of your engine, not boost performance (very few claim to do that). I usually use it in high mileage cars which smoke, it removes the built up crap and makes the engine run cleaner and gives me a few more thousand miles out of it.
+mrh112 Thanks and thanks for sharing!
For anyone interested the average MPG without the 11.4 MPG Guy (which clearly is not due to the additive) is 0.45 MPG.
I like it when you said, "we are a community... passion for cars".. subscribing here now.

+SNESJedi Haha, and that is with only 4 gears and a performance ratio rear end!
Hi Chris
I recently stumbled on a video you made, where you had used engine oil from an old
car analyzed. You said that you would have used oil from a new car analyzed
soon. That was in January, so ... What time frame does "soon" cover? :-)
Peter Riis Hello I'm from the future. The definition of soon has been changed.
Finally, a test of a product using multiple vehicles, not just letting the outcome rely on the effects on a single car in a single incidence of use (a bit like fuel cleaner videos unfortunately).
wow, Chris great video, I been a big fan for last the few years and a subscriber, really appreciate your honest reviews, thanks

This is just amazing work!
I can't imagine how much work you have put in making this!
I subscribed after having seen this amazing video!
Keep it up @ChrisFix
Hmmmm, I had thought about putting an additive, but perhaps it's not yet necessary. Great vid, you're awesome for including subscribers in the test. Very informative =)
increase of 11 mpg... stop it... you should throw the high and low number out... he screwed your whole test.. those results would have gone in a different direction if he was down at the menial discrepancies like most everyone else... I think he meant 1.1 maybe.
Or he probably did city driving then highway
He may have driven more carefully and improved his own MPG wanting it to work. Happens all the time in personal testing. Doesn't happen to me when I test because I'm so consistent with 22 years of MPG testing ideas. The last several years got exciting because all the snake oils which never seemed to work, or caused HARM...some actually help a little now, lol.
My conclusion: at least 1 bottle is totally worth it.
+SalveMonesvol I agree. You can get their cheap bottle that is good for one tank and see if it actually works. Worth a shot!
ChrisFix Ah, the nice acknowledgement of existence when the content creator replies to you ;)
Mazda Miata clip in the video but didn't run the test of the additive?
+Striball what?
+ChrisFix 3:00 a Mazda Miata is the car but I guess it's for the purpose of filming the Jaguar in front of him, just noticed this. Just kinda odd the shot is of a Miata but didn't show in the spreadsheet.
+Striball Oh, I think he sent me the footage of his Jaguar in front of the miata.
+Striball Yup that's my friends Miata. He wasn't part of the test but we do canyon runs together.
i realize this is very late but we all need to remember tires will be a variable the pressure the remaining tread ect.. i love these videos i work at a auto parts store and it helps me to be honest when customers ask me what to use . so far i like the royal purple im going to use it in my 03 ford taurus and 03nissan altima both v6
U did a great job! Thanks a lot,Chris!
have you ever considered that fact that the additive itself takes some volume in the fuel tank?
+Jiayang Ruan you use 2 oz every 30 gallons
yep, just for your reference of rigorous statistic, this is science
plus, we have to also consider the money we paid for the additive. What we care is the total cost per mile, not only the fuel, right?
Fuel additives do work but they aren't miracle workers
They mainly clean fuel lines, injectors and combustion chambers
If you use good quality fuel, don't do too many short journeys or if you do occasionally take your car for a longer drive. You will find that your car on the whole has pretty good fuel economy.
However if you use low quality fuel, don't service your car frequently and do lots of short trips. Your fuel economy will suffer.
I use a fuel additive 3 to 4 times a year. I use good fuel and I do some longer trips but I find that the additives help.
I have a 12 ref 1.6 TDCi Ford Focus
I average 53MPG
I find my MPG drops to around 47 MPG prior to using the additive. I use the additive in accordance with the instructions and usually when I'm doing a long journey.
My fuel economy always returns.
Edward Trickett i didnt do highway testing but i average 18mpg in my 08 jeep grand cherokee in the city/country after i used chevron techron. Before i was lucky to see 16 mpg so the techron definetly did clean some stuff up inside. But my car gets a rated 17 city anyway lol.
Lol, 11.4 mpg increase for one car at the very end. That's called an outlier, and it totally ruined your analysis...
Real Summary: This stuff is useless.
I think it's worth testing again. A statistician worked with the data. I read a lot of notes from either statisticians or people who have taken the class, or better, and once you throw that test out, there's still a 0.54 average increase.
Your videos are like Scotty with me. I watch your guys get all kinds of tricks and tips that have helped me out. This one mixed with the HP one you did with this product has me thinking about building something. Thank you for this and all your videos. I am going to try something with my car and going by what I know and what I have seen from you and him it should work
Just found your channel. It is excellent, one of the best I've ever seen. Keep up the good work.
All that for 1 MPG? No thanks. Basically it's useless.
0.54 once a statician through out the outliers actually. If you drive 5,000 miles ever month or so that's like a $15 dollar savings and those bottles treat up to 460 gallons, so it really will save you your money (assuming in the last 3-4 years the product hasn't changed).
Hey my dad has this corvette except my dads is a wide body
Nice!
just in case. i m a new follower from algeria (north africa) i think a saw 80% of your videos and they are amazing
As an automotive enthusiast and a college student with units in statistics, I am really impressed
I've never used this clean boost Maxx but we have 6 vehicles in our family which is representative of this test and used the Lucas gas additive that I buy by the gallon on amazon: 2013 Hyundai elantra, 2010 Acura TSX, 2015 Nissan Frontier truck, 2008 Chevy Corvette, 1998 Mercedes SLK230, and last but not least a 1998 Dodge Pleasure way class B RV. I find a greater than 2 mpg in my vehicles but noticed the engine's run noticeably smoother with better performance. The smaller engines seem to get the best improvement and the RV the least improvement. Cost is important as the gallon size only runs $25. I prefill a 5 oz bottle so I can make 25 of these 5 oz bottles for a buck each.
I like this channel. This is a nice channel. Seriously, I can't trust ANY mechanics where I live. Complete scams. So it's nice to know people are willing to share their knowledge with those of us who aren't afraid to pop open the hood. Respect.

Years ago I took the truck I had at the time to a mechanic who when pulling the truck out of the garage to "hand over" to me after finishing working on it, he told me he could fix the broken door handle for $50. I asked how hard it'd be to fix myself mostly joking, and he actually started giving me instruction (though quickly) on how to do it, and that it was really simple. After this I kept taking my truck there. He even fixed it a few times and let me take it with me without paying, without holding anything to insure I would come back. He just trusted me as a frequent customer to return and pay what I owned him.
That Volvo really messed up results. Without that outlier this stuff is really detrimental
I just got my first ever car and I an currently 17 years old, I got a 2002 acura tl type S 6 cylinder 250 horse power. And I love it she's me baby, and I've got a few problems with her but I'm trying to fix them, here are some: Power steering pump not working correctly, flat tires, bad breaks, all the interior leather is dry and ugly, back seats and front seats have alot of tear. and that's just a few but these videos are helping me and I thank you for that! =)
+Jarmahent Awesome and congrats! I am glad the videos are helpful!
Really love seeing a well kept C4, being a new owner of one myself, it really shows how nice these cars can be!
Thanks! What color and year is yours?
ChrisFix 1990, same color as yours, but a tan top, tan interior Convertible with 74k miles. Thanks for asking!
I agree with you that with all the variables mentioned could affect the outcome and some that weren't mentioned, but since the average gain is about 1 mpg, I don't think this stuff is worth the money or the trouble for the average driver. I remember years ago a concern was doing an mpg test under more rigid controls for accuracy. They disconnected the fuel line from the gas tank and use exactly one gallon of gas to test mpg. Using the fill up method, then filling up after you have driven x amount of miles and using this refill method to calculate mpg can give incorrect mpg. Sometimes there is an air pocket when you refill or on the first fill, that could throw off the miles per gallon.
Chris, if you need a tester outside of USA count me in !!!. I have a gas merc and a diesel SUV. Found out pretty good advise watching your channel, specially on the AT transmission. Keep on with the good work !!!
I love this channel.
I don't even own a car and I drive my dad's car when I need it,
but you have saved my ass from getting a rebuking several times when I scratched the car.
So Thanks!
Best car dude on TH-cam. Thanks Chris.
thank u so much for all the work u out into ur videos! they really help alot
Hey Chris! Awesome video. Quick suggestion, next time, calculate the standard deviation on the MPG difference. That way you would be able to tell if the 1 MPG increase was due to noise in the measurements or if there was a legitimate increase in MPG.
…
I wish more people with diesel engines would have tested it. It's for diesels, mainly. Diesels also have particulate filters, I've been researching this stuff to use in my semi. If I can cut back on soot production, that has so many more advantages for that's beyond horsepower and mpg. My operation costs would go down from parts and sensors getting caked with soot and failing
