Even though I love Jonathan's villain rock voice, it's great to hear his traditional singing voice. It's lovely actually. I wish he'd show it to us more often!
Its been my dream for so long... to be able to play the phantom and any stage :) big or small :) This is such a great version :) :) Great stuff guys :)
I ADORED this. This is the BEST version of this damn song I've heard. I typically don't like slow/romatic songs. But THIS version? STUNNING, WONDERFUL. You both are so talented and heartwarming in this.
All I want is a full metal version of the musical with these two as Erik and Christine, and Caleb Hyles as Raoul. That would be the best thing ever. The metal makes it so strong and their amazing voices are so different from the way they do it in the original, but so perfect, too. Just - please
@@davidmcaninch4714 yes, typicaly the hero will be a tenor and the villain a bass, but that doesn't mean they have to be. The fact is, in phantom of the opera, The phantom is a tenor and Raoul is a baritone. Both Caleb and Jonathan have incredible ranges, but I don't think a bass like Jonathan could reach the phantoms range for the entirety of the musical. If he were to play the phantom they would have to bring down the phantoms range to at least baritone, which I think Jonathan could probably pull of. The idea of casting a bass as the phantom while having a actuall tenor play the baritone role feels ludicrus to me, especially a this would put both the leading men in the same range. Caleb would have no problem singing as the phantom, as seen in his amazing cover of music of the night. To put him as Raoul would underutalise his talent and skill. And while Raoul is a baritone and Jonathan a bass, that is still a lot better than having him sing as the phantom. Jonathan pulled of Raoul excellently in the cover of all I ask of you, and while they might have to bring Raoul down a bit lower so that Jonathan doesn't strain his voice while singing for hours on end, that would be much more acceptable than bringing down the phantom, who is specificaly known for his angelic voice, just so that Jonathan can play him. (The whole angelic voice thing is why he's a tenor. The phantom having the more typicaly heroic voice is intentional to contrast with his deformed apperance.) And, in my opinion, Jonathan and Malinda's voices sound better together than Caleb and Malinda's, and you want the actual couple to sound better togheter to musicaly show why they are a better match.
No more talk of darkness, forget these wide-eyed fears; I'm here, nothing can harm you, my words will warm and calm you. Let me be your freedom, let daylight dry your tears; I'm here, with you, beside you, to guard you and to guide you. Say you love me every waking moment, turn my head with talk of summertime. Say you need me with you now and always; promise me that all you say is true, that's all I ask of you. Let me be your shelter, let me be your light; you're safe, no one will find you, your fears are far behind you. All I want is freedom, a world with no more night; and you, always beside me, to hold me and to hide me. Then say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime; let me lead you from your solitude. Say you need me with you, here beside you, anywhere you go, let me go too, Christine, that's all I ask of you Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime; say the word and I will follow you. Share each day with me, each night, each morning. Say you love me! You know I do. Love me, that's all I ask of you.
God damn it. I shed a few tears as soon as this came on. I used to sing this to my ex wife all the time. One day during the late winter march/april it was like 44 degrees and bright. No snow anywhere; we were listening to the Gerrard Butler version I hugged and kissed her, followed by "that's all I ask of you" and she said you know I do" and I swear to god it STARTED SNOWING just like in the movie, like blizzard conditions out of NOWHERE, and then stopped as soon as the song was over
This cover was the first song I ever heard from Phantom. And I've been looking, but I haven't found any other version of All I ask of you that I love as much as this one.
Jonathan, i literally got chills listening to this, especially the "let me go too" at like 2:39 I hope you get signed someday or at the very least get to sing/act in a disney movie where they use your facial expressions for the character. I see your passion in every song Ive watched of yours. Thank you.
YOU WILL CUUUUUUUUUURSE THE DAAAAAAY YOU DID NOT DOOOOOOOO! AAAAAAAAAAAAAALL THAT THE PHAAAAAANTOOOOM AAAASKED OOOOOOOOF YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! -The Cocky Demon
I think I have a serious case of Phantom Fever. I've been in love with Jonathan's covers of both this song and the titular piece since I first heard them. Then, a few days ago, I won an a fan-sequel ebook in a giveaway, so I've been wanting to listen to the Phantom soundtrack (and Jonathan's renditions of them) even more than usual. Ahhh, how cruel and wonderful it is!
Doesn't seem to matter which version of this I hear, it still brings the tears. What a great cover, Jonathan and Malinda. Very beautiful. Thank you. My all-time favorite song from Phantom.
Your villain ones are amazing but this is quite soothing to listen to. I like the gruffness of your voice it raises the hairs on my arms and I can't help but hit the repeat button and the person that you got to collab with you on it meshes well with your vocals. Very well done.
... I have no words for this, only tears. I've loved this movie so much my entire life. I could never find anything other than the original and I find this version with very talented people sing it... it just brings tears to my eyes. Thank you for making me so very happy strangers. I truly can't thank you enough.
This is the best cover on TH-cam, it's 2019 and people still come in to listen and comment. I seriously believe they should remake this movie starring you two. You look very different wearing that mask.
I'm a huge phantom of the opera fan, from the original cast to the movie... this song was my wedding song and honestly, I didn't know how I would feel about it. You blew my mind. The tears are flowing and my breath has been taken away.
Yes, Emmy Rossum was a terrible choice, her singing was flat and lacked power and on screen presence when I watch the movie I think “if only the director had pushed her to belt out the notes and have musical charisma.”
Anna H Malinda should so play the part of Christine, if they do another Phantom movie. Then again, I can’t think of any powerful female part in any musical that she couldn’t do. Or any Disney princess, for that matter.
Is anyone else getting extreme love feels from this song?!? Jeez, I've listened to this for a good hour now and I'm tearing up and getting chills... OMG!!!!😍😍 This is love to me!!!!!!!!
I'm so glad that this song was done in this way. I've always loved this song and I saw this version and my fiancé and I will have this song as our first dance at our wedding. I cry every time I hear this song because it's so beautiful. Thanks so much for doing this!
With only two singers "difficult" was an understatement, and I am not known as someone who understates things. Drama queen may be more appropriate :-D Now if they were in a stage performance then I would pay to see it.
this song always makes me sad, and you guys song this so beautifully that it basically brought me to tears, the Phantom of the Opera is a very powerful musical.....
I hadn't even realized the song was over. Good Lord...that was how powerful this performance was, from two ordinary TH-camrs. I didn't really liked the movie though...but the song was captivating enough that I knew was a treasured childhood memory. Thank you Jon for giving us another amazing music marvel to gawk and swoon at. And the only reason this last sentence is here is because now I'm probably gonna come back and listen to this cover...repeatedly. Honestly, thanks for making great covers dude. Stay awesome! Also, I'll be sure to check out Malinda's channel, Jon. She seems insanely talented! :D
I have watched this and several others from you about.... 5000 times now and dude, you are probably the best natural musician I have ever seen. I'm an 80s metal guy, been in a couple pretty decent bands, and have never seen a talent like you. It's amazing, do me a favor and cove the monkeys "Pleasant Valley Sunday"....
Malinda sent me here and I must say I'm stunned. Not only because I love this song and you two did an incredible job, but I literally just got this song out of my head. Now I'll be listening to this for the next 2 weeks! Regardless, thank you for an alternative version to listen to. xD
While I love most of your songs...this is one of the few songs I can listen to, on repeat...for ever. Yet, here it is, 2020... And still no cover of Music of the Night... My grandma's (R.I.P) favorite song, from the play. While Caleb does an amazing job... I (and most everyone else) would love to hear what you could do with it. Keep up the amazing talent!
OH MY GOD!!! This is SO amazing!! I absolutely LOVE this!! The Phantom of The Opera is by far my favorite play of all time. The first one I ever saw onstage and you sir have done it true justice. I would be very happy if you could also cover Music of The Night, or The Point of No Return as well. I feel like you could perform those beautifully. Thank you for all your hard work and your wonderful videos!!
Okay, I have to say this, because it's true: I've never heard a cover of "All I Ask Of You" that I like better than this one. EVER. (And I've heard a ton.)
I've seen Phantom live 6 times over the last 30 years. I'd pay to see Jonathan and Malinda play Christine and the Phantom! I love their voices together.
The thing I enjoy most about your videos, Mr. Young, is that they are perfectly in my key and I can sing along with you. It is unfortunate that mainstream popular music is dominated by Tenors and there aren't more Baritones like us out there.
I recently went through a rough break up and was going through your music. I then came across this beauty of a gem and it made me feel so much. In the song you sang the name Christine which was her name. I've honestly never shed so many tears to a song before. Definetly my new favourite of yours.
I've never cried listening to All I Ask of You, despite it being pretty much the most romantic song ever written, but I don't even get halfway through your cover and I burst into tears! Why must you kill me this way! Don't ever stop!
Jon, I know I say this on a lot of your songs, but this was INCREDIBLE. It's literally been on repeat the last 2 days for me. You and Malinda sounded absolutely amazing. You two should definitely do more Phantom of the Opera. Keep it up you guys!
Jonathan, Caleb and Malinda should just form an ultimate band and destroy the world with their beautiful powerful voices

tim hatt Im a cocky demon... So is Sebastian.
Sebby is better though ;P
AmnesiaDarkDecent13 I can accept that.
Nimmo1492 ikr
Jonathan’s voice would make a breathtaking cover of Music of the Night. Anyone else agree?
Absolutely!
I mean... Caleb's already _soloed_ it, but...
They would be awesome in an actual phantom of the opera performance
+Jonathan Young do more phantom of the opera music!
Its been my dream for so long... to be able to play the phantom and any stage :) big or small :) This is such a great version :) :) Great stuff guys :)
R2 MY D2 me to I love opera
You and Malinda should've been the leads in the film!
Um.. when the film came out, they were like 10...
Caleb out of nowhere:

My absolute favourite part of this video was seeing how much fun you were having on the drums, especially with those carrot orange drumsticks.
Okay.... Im convinced.... We need a 2018 redo of The Phantom and you two need to be the main attraction.
Omg Malinda's part gave me chills! Her voice + the melody she's singing are breath taking.

I would die to hear the other phantom of the opera songs from You. This is amazing and I love it more than the originals and its just as beautiful.
Who else is here in 2019 wishing we’d have gotten a full album cover of Phantom of The Opera.
That would be difficult as a number of the songs aren't duets or solos.
Dermacrosis difficult but not impossible
With only two singers "difficult" was an understatement, and I am not known as someone who understates things. Drama queen may be more appropriate :-D
Now if they were in a stage performance then I would pay to see it.
With Caleb as well 😂
this song always makes me sad, and you guys song this so beautifully that it basically brought me to tears, the Phantom of the Opera is a very powerful musical.....

I've never cried listening to All I Ask of You, despite it being pretty much the most romantic song ever written, but I don't even get halfway through your cover and I burst into tears! Why must you kill me this way! Don't ever stop!
Id love to hear you do 'Point of no Return'. Such an intense song would fit your voice perfectly
Jon, I know I say this on a lot of your songs, but this was INCREDIBLE. It's literally been on repeat the last 2 days for me. You and Malinda sounded absolutely amazing. You two should definitely do more Phantom of the Opera. Keep it up you guys!
this was awesome. please do more covers from musicals. i'd love to hear you do songs from sweeney todd.
Wonderful cover of a beautiful song. You both have amazing voices, thank you for sharing them with us.
>:) You know what comes next Jonathan... The main song.
ALSO you two should do 'The point of no return' Like omg
+Jonathan Young it's gonna be AaawWWeeEssSSsssOoOmmee
Oh my God yes, I need to hear that. I just need these two to grab some friends and do the entire musical to be honest. XD
Get Caleb Hyles and you have the three leads... now for the rest of the cast. ;)
amazing duet, and definitely one of your best vocal performances ever, Jonathan
hair raising..listening 2020 during lockdown. My name is Christine and when Jonathan mentioned my name, it was heaven...
spamming my group chat with this because it makes me absolutely melt on the inside
Can you do the entire Phantom of the Opera album?

Why am I just finding this? This is beautiful!
I agree, Music of the Night please.
I would melt! That's a fantastic idea!
Nerian that would be wonderful!!
I'm a Broadway fan and I didn't think I would like such a beautiful soft song to be made into a rock version, but it actually sounded pretty nice 🤗
Surprise Phantom outta nowhere, I would get front row first night to the show that remixes the entire thing in this style
