It always amazes me how every single one of these reconstructions is the same the Bismarck is accurate within a couple of salvos and after that near misses and the british ships always miss?
I've had the full game on my phone for years. Step one: turn broadside and come to a full stop as this makes step two a lot easier. It's not an accurate portrayal of naval war but you will win. Step two: use the map, with the plot of previous shell hits and adjust your fire with this. It takes a bit of practice but you can paste the AI like this. Using the fall of two salvos, on the chart and looking at your change in elevation you can accurately drop nearly every subsequent round of shots with pinpoint accuracy. Hope this helps. Just tried KGV against Bismarck twice. You would have to be very lucky which I don't think represents that it would have been the case. I think it would be a lot closer.
Ah no don't stop just slow down, you don't want to be stopped because sure you can aim better but eventually so can they. Edit: good thing to do also is change direction every once in a while to throw the enemy fire directors off .

Some of us remember Great Naval Battles of The North Atlantic by SSI. Atlantic Fleet had so much potential, but given how stupid the AI is and submarines being retardedly overpowered, its a bit of a disappointment. The way to play this is with advanced enemy gunnery and windage, max difficulty settings, and don't use submarines as Germany. Then with all of these handicaps, the game becomes somewhat interesting.

Sadly there are no Iowa class BBs in the game only the 2 North Carolina class BBs. Atlantic Fleet only includes ships that served in the Atlantic theater though there are quite a few ships that did serve in said theater yet aren't in-game.

Was the British being played by the AI? If not, the person playing as the British rushed his turn, the Bismark player was far better, took his time and landed killer blows nearly every salvo! He also got all guns clear to fire, the British player or AI couldnt even manage that and he had 2 ships! I know its only a game but it looked like a novis against a pro!
IRL, the KM gunnery was that much better. It only took eight minutes for HMS Hood to be sunk. The two RN ships should have spread apart so that Bismarck had to fire in two directions at once.
@@roberthudson1959 In real life the British would not have fought at that range, they would have continued to angle in to get under Bismarck's plunging fire. It was what Hood was trying to do when she sank. If that salvo had not killed Hood, she would probably have survived the engagement :(
The Bismarck had bigger guns, but it was offset by the higher rate of fire of the King George V class. The British ships had better armor and their all or nothing armor scheme was superior, especially at long rang, to the old WWI turtleback armor scheme of the Bismarck. A single King George would have an edge. Having the Bismarck beat two seems highly unrealistic.
German fire directions fore and aft were excellent and well made. Churchill wasn't keen about the class and the 14 inch guns. Real life the Bismark was struck how many times and still afloat

When Churchill was appointed Prime Minister it made the British military more effective by removing him from the Admiralty. Massive ships take time to sink, and Bismarck was a very massive ship. But being a floating target is not the purpose of a warship. Rodney was able to render Bismarck combat ineffective after a few salvoes.

This is screwed up.. The Brits have 20 heavy guns and they hardly scratch Bismarck -but- Bismarck 8 guns sinks them! Bismarck was not a bad shooter but it had bad shells. Several hit PoW that didnot explode or only partly exploded. The Brits need 1.5 advantage in BBs to match Bismarck but in this they have 2 to one in ships and 2.5 in guns ! This game is nonsence

Crap gunnery from the British here despite the KGV's having good gunnery just ask the Scharnhorst and the Bismark who was hit my a 14" round after sinking the Hood. Misrepresents the outcome I feel but the game has bias built in so no surprises
There is a bias towards the Germans as to somewhat balance Battle of the Atlantic as the allies have many more ships to throw around and also the bots are pretty dumb.
Both the KGV and POW had huge flaw with their 14 inch gun turrets... jamming. All the KGV had this problem and thus a 10 gun ship was a 7 gun effective ship. Pitiful.

During the later action with Bismarck, HMS King George V was also having trouble with her main battery, and by 0927 every gun missed at least one salvo due to failures in the safety interlocks for antiflash protection. Prince of Wales is arguably a unrealistic example, because she was a very new ship without even a shakedown cruise if memory serves right. King George V's issues weren't nearly as bad as PoW, but they still existed, and I don't know what to make of DoY's situation. Howe and Anson didn't seem to have any issues.

The AI in Atlantic Fleet is severely flawed. The Kriegsmarine is highly buffed as to give players a chance to win the battle of the Atlantic game mode. The Royal Navy isn't bad at all it's just the AI are pretty incompetent by default, I can take a Royal Navy ship and lay waste to several Kriegsmarine warships by myself same as I could in the German's position.

Played this scenario many times. Problem with these British ships is thin armour on the turrets results in turrets being knocked out by a German hit. Nelson vs Bismarck is an interesting fight though. Can sink Bismarck with medium damage to Nelson
I believe Iowa was once Sent north for the express purpose of finding and engaging Bismarck. In those rough waters id wouldve been a fair fight, Firepower vs Durability. (Un)Fortunately Iowa was delayed and missed the opurtunity. By the time she was ready Bismarck was on the bottom. Funnily enoughm i believe Missouri had a similar........but her date was with none other than Yamato herself, on ce again however the battle never occured, thgis time cos the american ship god lost amongst the pacific islands. ( I believe both these stories to be true but im no historian, if i find the source ill come back anbd let you know ;)

how do you shoot a primary and secondary gun at once
Sadly you can't you have to swap between primary and secondary armament between turns and choose which one you deem is more useful in the situation.

Bismarck kontra dwa okręty liniowe typu King George V, nie miał by szans w tym starciu. Okręty angielskie były lepiej opancerzone i uzbrojone. W dodatku 2, czyli 20 dział 14 calowych przeciwko 8, 15 calowym.
It's just a game. The reason the Bismarck survived is because the AI aren't very bright and I'm good at the game.
