The only magic users that are unpromoted are Erk, Serra, Lucius, Canas and Nino. However, Anima Magic is weak against Dark Magic, so it should be Serra(since she is neutral and Clerics usually get amazing Res and poor Mag), Lucius (because ToM Advantage) or Canas (the least probable but still a possibility). So, my guess is between Serra and Lucius. EDIT: I just remembered Nosferatu! Perhaps Canas is a possibility after all! Let me go to the wiki real quick. EDIT2:Ok, Nergal has 30 Mag and Ereshkigal has 20 Mt. That adds up to 50 Dmg. The max Res any of the three classes previously mentioned is 20, plus Barrier/Pure Water, that goes up to 27, leaving Nergal dealing only 23 Dmg. That's still a lot. 23×3=69. The max HP is... Wait a second! Ereshkigal can't even crit! Why even does Nergal have a crit animation?
Balloon Boy Strangely enough, it's not the magic users. Someone answered it not too long ago. You can try find it in the comment section. :P Nergal's highest crit rate is a mere 15, that is when my character has 0 luck and without having a tactician. In order for him to perform a critical, I must actually play the game with ALOT of disadvantages, like having no luck growths, and without the little bonuses from the tactician, supports, etc. Two criticals in a row is just pure RNG abuse.

I feel like if Renault started out at LV 10, he could’ve at least been decent but, meh. He is definitely one of the best characters in the game and I like how his stats revolve around his backstory!
Really, the only thing that those few levels wouldve changed is a run like this. He doesnt need to grow to be good, he already has A staves and pretty solid bases. Hes the perfect staffbot. His lowish mag is irrelevant as you can buy recover staves, and eben with mend he heals plenty, and his warp range is entirely sufficient for 32x and final thanks to how small they are.
Jeremiah peters His really high skill actually makes it so he will end up as the most reliable light magic user to crit the enemies. Give Renault Luce and you’ve basically given him the Wo Dao of light tomes. Now yes you have to train him up to S Tomes, but give him Shine and Purge during the Limstella chapter and you can do it and still get Hector’s gaiden chapter.
I'm pretty sure the Dragon counts as a separate map, but you're right about him technically being able to B support before the Final. However the time it takes to get a C support in his join chapter make it unlikely that you'll make the requirement for the Gaiden, on top of the fact that you'd have to train him to max on either a chapter with a turn limit OR a magic seal. EDIT: Now that I look at it, it's literally objectively impossible for him to get B Support before the final because he needs a minimum of 40 turns for any C support and the turn limit is 20, I thought maybe you could pull some super duper god-tier warp rng manip shenanigans or something to recruit him early on in the map but I forgot that GBA supports still take a billion years lol

But Iv'e always wondered something about the man, he said he was a mercenary when he was younger, and that when you first meet him he's a bishop. Beating Lyn's tale also tells us that Lucius traveled with him on a journey. What exactly happened on that journey that caused Renault to retire, and how did he end up on the Dread Isle? Edit: RNG sure is helping you out a bit this time, the first few hits from Aureola being crits saved your usages.

When Kishuna, Renault's best friend, died, he tried to revive him by all means possible. Nergal and Renault met. Nergal manipulated Renault by asking him to collect quintessence from living beings (Canas' Support). One of the people killed by Renault is Lucius' father, hence the reason why Lucius is in the orphanage (Lucius Support). When he realised that the morph isn't his fallen friend, knowing that the dead cannot be revived, he decided to mourn for Kishuna, where he cast down his weapons and knelt for the first time, and became a Bishop (Isadora Support).
Hearing that battle dialogue from Nergal and Renault made me wonder about what he meant by the person, but I never knew that it was Kishuna the entire time. But the fact that he laid down his weapons to become a bishop after being a mercenary, makes me wonder how a mercenary was even able to promote to one. It's so bizarre on how Elibe has so many mysteries and murdered victims, mostly murder. But I gotta feel so sorry for Lucius, yet don't understand why he traveled with Renault when he realized he killed his father in the process of trying to revive Kishuna. No need for Spoliers, I play Blazing Sword a lot anyways so I know a lot about the storylines.

That all makes a fair amount of sense, but I'm still stumped over the fact that he managed to change to a bishop when he was a mercenary. Let's take some logic into understanding this. 1. Only Monks and Priest's can promote into a bishop, while Mercenaries in this game can only become a Hero class. 2. If he were to become a bishop, he must have known how to harness the power of light magic just like how Lucius is able to harness it. 3. Probably the dumbest reason but, pretty sure Renault just says "Screw logic." and just becomes whatever he wants to be.
IS was too pussy to give him a killing edge I understand not giving it to him earlier but by endgame you know what assassins can do because of jaffar and i believe you have an iron rune so they can give him a killing edge to make him a threat in the final chapter. Without a killing edge hes useless

Breadstics It's possible, but very unlikely. 1. You must not include the tactician for your run, so you won't get any tactician points for additional critical avoids. 2. The character you choose to fight the both of them must not have any supports, as it might boost their critical avoids. 3. The same character must not get any luck stat from level ups either, as every point of luck boost your critical avoid by 1. Even with all these stuff absent, Nergal's critical rate can never exceed 15% and the dragon with 19%.
If curious, for the dragon smoke and fire come out of his teeth before he does his normal attack, and for Nergal after making that pillar of darkness he turns to the side and reaches up in the air and this dark magic disk thing spins around before finishing like normal.

Ahh, Renault. An unit who have some pretty good base stats (outside of magic, of course), have A ranks all around, one of wich being on staves, granting him some utility purpose. What could possibly go wrong?
Renault only have two problems: his magic stat, and specially his join time. Unfortunatly for him, those flaws are so bad that they nulify anything good about him.
Judging from how the characters stack up, here's a list of which units are the best and worst in FE7. Although this is entirely based on just doing the last chapter on their own. And I won't include the Lords and Athos, because unique classes. Same with Canas, because while it's not a unique class, he is the only dark magic user in the game aside from Athos, and Luna is broken. Here we go! 1. Berserker 2. Warrior 3. General 4. Nomadic Trooper 5. Hero 6. Wyvern Lord 7. Bishop 8. Sage 9. Valkyrie 10. Falcoknight 11. Paladin 12. Sniper 13. Swordmaster 14. Assassin And then we just have the outliers, Isadora and Renault.
Quick question, why is Matthew Low tier, but Legault and Jaffar are trash tier, is it just the affinity? The extra point of attack Matthew gets from that?
Mr. Smasher Matthew does a maximum of 5 damage against the dragon. Jaffar/Legault does 2 damage with the same critical rate compared to Matthew, making Matthew "stronger" than the both of them by 2.5 times. Regal Blade only has 20 uses. To defeat the dragon, Matthew only need a minimum of 2 criticals and 18 normal attacks. While Jaffar/Legault requires ALL attacks to be criticals.

Calculating stats... Crit evade 24, and regal blade has no crit bonus. (Use nino's A support for the extra avoid) = (30/2) + 12 + 0 + 5 = 32. 32-24 = 8. AHAHAHA. Good luck. aaand then we have to find out the dragon's hit rate because good luck getting through with just 6 elixir. DragonHit = 100 + (37*2) + (24/2) = 186, Avoid (For player units) = (30*2) + (23 or 30, Jaffar has lower obtainable luck.) + 20 (Or 18 if you use Matthew A support) + (Up to 10) = 110 (Jaffar, 7 tactician stars) (Max 120) Soo... 76% DragonHit... And getting 20 crits out of a 25 durability sword at that. I honestly.... Saying we use legault, and use the emblem blade to make sure there's enough durability to get through all the morphs, and get a crit on the first attack on nergal, leaving us with 24 durability on the regal blade and 12 elixirs. 66%'s true hit is ~77.22%. Then again that doesn't matter because you only need 9 elixirs to survive 10 hits. NVM, you can use a killing edge and brave sword or something. Assuming 2 avoids, this allows for all 24 durability. This is important because it allows for 6 hits to no be crits. Now then..... 0.08^18 = roughly 1 in 2 times TEN TO THE POWER OF TWENTY. So yeah, it's possible. With extreme RNG manipulation to allow for 9-10 consecutive turns of 0.64% (8% squared) chances. -Leila journey when?-
Mekachi Shika You forgot one thing though.. If Jaffar or Legault get berserked by the druid, they will waste the Regal Blade uses (due to highest might, unless brave sword) on the magic users even before getting to Negal, making this even harder.

to all of you saying how bad renault is: he has A staves so he can fortify and warp, even with low mag thats a lot more than some units like rebecca or wil are doing.
Being a second pent-tier staffbot is pretty great. He might have slightly worse range, but the rest of the maps are pretty small and its usually enough. His biggest issue is his late join time, but at least he does something without tons of wasted unlike units such as rebecca or lyn.

I understand not giving it to him earlier but by endgame you know what assassins can do because of jaffar and i believe you have an iron rune so they can give him a killing edge to make him a threat in the final chapter.

It's possible, but very unlikely.
1. You must not include the tactician for your run, so you won't get any tactician points for additional critical avoids.
2. The character you choose to fight the both of them must not have any supports, as it might boost their critical avoids.
3. The same character must not get any luck stat from level ups either, as every point of luck boost your critical avoid by 1.
Even with all these stuff absent, Nergal's critical rate can never exceed 15% and the dragon with 19%.
If curious, for the dragon smoke and fire come out of his teeth before he does his normal attack, and for Nergal after making that pillar of darkness he turns to the side and reaches up in the air and this dark magic disk thing spins around before finishing like normal.

And I won't include the Lords and Athos, because unique classes. Same with Canas, because while it's not a unique class, he is the only dark magic user in the game aside from Athos, and Luna is broken. Here we go!

Quick question, why is Matthew Low tier, but Legault and Jaffar are trash tier, is it just the affinity? The extra point of attack Matthew gets from that?

Matthew does a maximum of 5 damage against the dragon. Jaffar/Legault does 2 damage with the same critical rate compared to Matthew, making Matthew "stronger" than the both of them by 2.5 times.
Regal Blade only has 20 uses. To defeat the dragon, Matthew only need a minimum of 2 criticals and 18 normal attacks. While Jaffar/Legault requires ALL attacks to be criticals.

DragonHit = 100 + (37*2) + (24/2) = 186, Avoid (For player units) = (30*2) + (23 or 30, Jaffar has lower obtainable luck.) + 20 (Or 18 if you use Matthew A support) + (Up to 10) = 110 (Jaffar, 7 tactician stars) (Max 120)
Soo... 76% DragonHit... And getting 20 crits out of a 25 durability sword at that.
I honestly....
Saying we use legault, and use the emblem blade to make sure there's enough durability to get through all the morphs, and get a crit on the first attack on nergal, leaving us with 24 durability on the regal blade and 12 elixirs.
66%'s true hit is ~77.22%. Then again that doesn't matter because you only need 9 elixirs to survive 10 hits. NVM, you can use a killing edge and brave sword or something.
Assuming 2 avoids, this allows for all 24 durability. This is important because it allows for 6 hits to no be crits. Now then..... 0.08^18 = roughly 1 in 2 times TEN TO THE POWER OF TWENTY. So yeah, it's possible. With extreme RNG manipulation to allow for 9-10 consecutive turns of 0.64% (8% squared) chances.

You forgot one thing though.. If Jaffar or Legault get berserked by the druid, they will waste the Regal Blade uses (due to highest might, unless brave sword) on the magic users even before getting to Negal, making this even harder.

Being a second pent-tier staffbot is pretty great. He might have slightly worse range, but the rest of the maps are pretty small and its usually enough. His biggest issue is his late join time, but at least he does something without tons of wasted unlike units such as rebecca or lyn.
