Dear Dr. Ekberg...by concidence I opened one of your videos (10 things you should not eat) back in October 2020, and my journey to complete diet transformation has began...at the time I could not close my favorite pants any more...now, simply by changing my food based on your advice, cutting out sugar, carbs overall and processed food, without any effort I lost close to 4 kilograms and now I can close my pants very easily :) For example, my dinner tonight was green salad, with broccoly, tomatoes, avocado, sardines, with some olive oil...and I though to myself "dr. Ekberg would be proud of me :)) ) A great THANK YOU for your precious content, I'm your biggest fan!

A clear and informative presentation without being patronising - our health has suffered in recent decades as we seem to have forgotten what our grandmothers knew instinctively - carbohydrate foods make you fat and also don’t ruin your appetite by snacking in between meals. I am old enough to remember when 95% of us were lean and thin - AND we just took it for granted.

So true about the snacking. It was never encouraged back then but now they are saying we need to ensure we snack in between meals. I think we should take in the right amount of calories during our main meals of the day so that our bodies get time to digest the food instead of piling more in every moment of the day. Our Gmamas knew what they were talking about.

As I practice keto life style for years and following your channel since the beginning , and sharing your awesome videos with others , I had to share this one today with my pregnant daughter . She recently was diagnosed with Gestational diabetes. She was asked to start insulin , when her highest result at fasting test was 95 .They also advised her to have 6-8 meals a day .This almost blew my mind .3 meals with 3 snacks (fruit and carbs). They told her she must have carbs . Holy molly .

It took me three times to convince my doctor that I really wanted fasting INSULIN test and I wasn't mis-speaking about the standard glucose test. When I finally got him to understand he couldn't understand why I'd want to know that....and I can't understand how a doctor can treat type II diabetes without knowing the insulin levels. It turns out they don't care to know the level of fasting insulin because there is no pill or injection to "fix it". The only way to improve the situation is to change your diet and stop eating carbs. There's no money for the pharmaceutical industry.

Hello Dr Ekberg. I’ve been listening and watching your videos for a couple of months now and about two months ago, I decided to go all out very low carb bec I was always getting dizzy after I eat carbs! It had gotten so bad that I almost didn’t want to eat anymore for the dread of the dizziness after eating. I did intermittent 18-6 and slowly my body adapted and started enjoying eating twice a day, although I would have a small non carb snack between meals. Until few days ago, since I’ve started (2 months now), the low carb/fasting, my insulin is 3.26 and fbs last month was 99, A1C is 5.2 from 5.5! Best is I feel good and not fearful now that I’m in a bad place. I also lost 12 pounds and down to a size 4 from 12. I’m mixing three meals and two meals as well as 16/8 and omad now so I don’t lose any more weight. I haven’t been 131 since I was in my 20s, now I’m 62!!!
Thank you so much for your videos, for selflessly sharing your knowledge in a very easily understandable way, I’ve shared ur videos many times to friends and family.

Two points I didn’t understand at the end of the video.
1- Eat low fat! I thought we should increase whole fat intake and lower carbs!
2- Eat whole grain. Wouldn’t that increase carbs, thus, increase sugar in the blood?
    Are they a misconception?
If they are, then, I’m sorry if I misunderstood.
Probably an (x) in front of them or over them would make it clear.
    Thanks

Overall, a great video. However, carbs are not turned into fat unless you take in a surplus. Carbs go to the muscles and the liver for storage (glycogen). Once those stores are filled, then it’s converted and stored as fat. Carbs will not make you fat. I understand that you promote a keto lifestyle, but for people who weight train, this is not optimal. I think it’s important for someone in a position of authority to not spread misinformation. I do love your channel and think you’re doing awesome work. Thank you.

Thank You Erin Stern. Great points. You are absolutely correct in that it is the excess that gets stored and since 87.5% of the population is overweight carbs are in excess for those people. Carbs won't make you fat if you burn through them, but they will keep you fat if you are IR. It is also true that an active person can eat quite a bit of carbs without any ill effects or IR, but it does not mean that active people need more carbs. The body can run on a variety of fuels, and much research has been done on the benefits of ketosis for both endurance athletes and body builders. I don't really promote the keto lifestyle other than that it is probably the best solution for most people with IR and stubborn weight, but I do promote a low carb lifestyle (50-150g) for most people as opposed to the official guidelines.

-I remember babysitting and mothers telling me to put corn syrup in the water bottle for the baby. OMG. Even then I knew it was wrong (that was 40 years ago). I'm hoping they learned better today.
-My husband was the first "alien" (maybe the only one too) to ever visit the CDC compound. The section he was interested in were disease like ebola, H1N1, etc. Two things helped. 1. his own credentials such as resume and references/reputation in his field 2. Me being 1/2 American and one of my cousin from GA was to be present.
-The funniest thing about their screening shown here: I had a baby 10 lb, 23". The biggest/longest/latest baby they ever had in the hospital. I was 5 weeks late. The fact he was so big had nothing to do with what I ate.
-Both my parents were diagnosed T2D in their late 70's because they started to eat what was easiest for them - packaged food; they had no health problems before that. Should it count still?
-I'm going to pass on this video to friends and family. I love your videos. Nicole

Very comprehensive video on insulin resistance. Thank you, Dr. Ekberg.
Excessive carbs get converted and stored as fat with an insulin response, as well as excessive protein to some degree. But if pure fat doesn’t cause an insulin response and is used as fuel, what happens to excessive fat?
As an extreme scenario, if I were to eat a pure fat meal having 3000 calories after a fast, part of it would be burned as fuel, but how would the body handle the rest? Would some or all of it still be stored in fat cells despite the lack of insulin? Or would it somehow be excreted? What health issues could occur, if any?

According to the experts, u can hv fruits but limited . However, u may hv to avoid a lot of them for a while if u r already IR, pre diabetic or diabetic. Non starchy veges are the better choice if u need to reverse any of these conditions. Also eat moderate protein n good fats.
