Wiring is not easy. You're a top notch mechanic. I just rewired a small trailer. I made a couple of small mistakes and nothing worked. Turns out I had a bad ground. My buddy Mike found it for me. Thanks for letting me hang in your shop again. Can't wait until you drive it.
Hey, I requested this video as well. Just came in the house and she WONT start. I’ll watch a few times and head back to the garage. I have a 57 Wagon and a 57 sedan (that you would take 2 doors off haha). We love the show, something positive that the whole family can watch and understand what my son and I are doing out there. We have bought merch and are huge fans. Thanks!!!
You are doing a great job on a car that was taking apart by someone else. It's good to see someone fixing it up it doesn't matter if it's a two door or a four door. They're old and lots of fun to have and drive. Well keep up the good work and be looking forward to seeing the next video. 😎
Brilliant video..wiring is a pain in the butt..the old Cars are so much more simple to work on..ive an old ford escort with 8 fuses and two relays..a simple Car...my other two..more modern cars.two fuse boxes.. each with fuses all over..total nightmare..you are doing a fantastic job my friend..keep the videos coming..👍
Great Video, cool that you're dads around to help you out !! Good times...all wired up and getting closer to take the 57 out for a run ..very cool !! Looking forward to seeing it back on the road around town .
Great job, it's coming along good. The wiring some times is a pain, but has to get done. Thats where I'm at with my Merc. Your on the home stretch now. Thanks for making the video!...... Danny in So.Cal ♤

Good job on cleaning up the wiring. The spark plug wires routing however leaves a little to be desired, Ha Maybe after everything else is done you'll make them look nice also. I like how you get your projects done quickly! I see others go for years and get nothing done. Continued success with your channel
@@DDSpeedShop That would be neat to see you doing straighing up of the spark plug wires with zip ties. Some guys are really good at it. Also maybe get some kind of a shield or something for the Gopro so that we can see you weld. A lot of us would like to view your welding skills ... Ha.
As for the newer style alternator the brown wire can be used on the idiot light if yours has one to energize the charge cycle. Or you can wire in a seperate light for a idiot light to energize the alt.
I just did the wiring in my 56. I used American autowire it was great direct fit just like factory. Only problem I had was the signals didn't work properly but they weren't grounding to the body because I had painted them.
Thanks so much, this will help me immensely. I have a new wiring harness front to back, front under hood and under dash (the MOST intimidating) but I should be able to pull this off. I have a hard time laying on my back for long periods, so maybe pulling the cluster out is the way to go.
I'm about to start wiring my 57. I'm using the AAW wiring kit. I hope I can pull it off. When I bought my car it didn't have a fuse panel. Where is the best place to mount it?
@@jimmy7376 The factory position is up on the driver side kick panel and that is a great place for it....the wiring would be the shortest lengths for a quick hook up. I rewired the entire car front bumper to tail lights so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. I use the AAW kit as well, but if you are using the AAW rear wiring kit as well, make sure of the wire pinouts to the harness connection before you energize. I found that the gas tank sending unit wire was misplaced and I shot 12V to a ground wire and toasted my sending unit. All of my kits were AAW so I assumed it would just work....LOL
@@larryz24 Thanks for the reply! I am also re wiring the entire car. I have the kit and have just been educating myself about it and trying to absorb as much info as possible. I will definitely get with you if I get stumped once I start. Thanks for the help.
Hi, thanks very informative! I have a question about the negative wire from the battery; the wiring diagram does not specify exactly where to hook-it. On mine it is tied to a bolt on the engine. But I don't see any bonding strap connecting the engine to the body as you see on all modern cars. Where is the body receives it's ground connection? All my electrical is working fine, just curious about this particular setting. Thanks!
When you make the connections for the HEI could you take some time to explain the procedure. I want to put HEI in my 67 C/10, and I would like to see step by step how it's done. Great video thanks.
Great video. I just recently bought a 57 chevy belair 4 dr. I'm having some wiring issues from other owners. Is it possible to get a copy of the wiring diagram from u. Thanks
Good video on wiring. It can be intimidating for sure. Usually when your gas guage pegs out it's because of grounding I think. At least the 57 don't have a 1000 wires. But even so with a diagram you should be able to get it done. Once you get over the shock of wtf. You really present yourself good. You explain things very well. But one question?. In a few videos back.( First test drive) you said lights are for sissys or something like that . What's up? Lol
cool project... but are the spark plug wires gonna live forever hanging over the carb? I would imagine those will will get re-routed so an air cleaner can go on top?
I’m actually fighting with wiring on our 2 door 55 currently. Despite brand new wiring, updated fuse box, and schematics I’m still running into trouble, maybe this will help me out 😂 it’s sad when the rain gear install was easier than the wiring harness replacement for me
confused about wire to generator on driverside you want to extend over to pass side to alternator but then you held up some wires to alternator on the pass side. are you using external voltage regulator alternator? or ?
the wire that needs to be hooked up in for the "gen" light. The heavy wire that is alread connected goes to the starter/battery. The gen light wire triggers charging.
You done good but solder and shrink wrap is a lot less apt to come apart. I have had butt connectors come apart and wire ties so I dont trust them. Solder makes a great connection that will not come apart.
DD, is this the same car i seen on Old time garage [ Rick the owner]??? Rick said it was in the shop for rocker panels. You & him are in Canada. Would like to know, because i like both of ya'lls channels. I'll keep watching. Take care of you & yours my youtube friends....Please reply Thank You....
Double D, your so close and maybe don't know, the fuel gauge works off the power side to gauge, the other going back to sender and the fun part is to see it go to full meaning that the gauge is good, the other is like a resistance ground meaning raising and lowering the fuel unit arm tells how well grounded it is. If its not grounding the gauge goes to full by default and when the gauge control is getting a "partial ground" through the resistance will start coming down towards empty. If you look at one out of the tank you will see the metal coil in that plate inside it and you can hook a ground wire to one out of the tank so it is well grounded and then the one one the sender that goes to gauge and raise and lower it and see the gauge work. The temp gauge works kinda the same way with one of those tall sending units that screws into the head and it is larger cause it works off resistance too just as after market ones do cause they all work on same principle. The short senders that go to the head work off temp and ground out using only the warning light. Hence the difference between the types of senders. Same with oil light as apposed to gauge. Hope this gets to you in time to help you. Wiring was the easy part for me and the system in front of you is way easier than rigs with ECM's and other goodies that will make sense if you work it backward also. Know what it does, figure which is power, which is trigger/sender, ABSOLUTELY make sure what your doing is well grounded and walla boom, done deal. What do I want to see, one of the four to two door conversions but that is asking too much. Been so long for me to twist wrenches and I know I could of worked with you cause if it doesn't pertain then it goes away for another day or gone if sure never change mind.

I have a 56 four door hardtop I’m getting ready to take out the tired old 235 and put in a v8 with a 700r4 ....I also have a floor shifter....was the floor shift difficult to do? .....have never done one.
