Yes, I've got a Tetro RX6 mini-v brake on my gravelish bike. Combined with Swiss Stop RX pads, they offer more stopping power than anyone could ask for.
awesome technology and fair price, have been using spyres for years, lots of descents, they get extremely hot (using sintered pads) and never fail. awesome quality.
Got a set of your HY/RD brakes on my endurance bike. 10,000+km so far and no issues, including 1400km on London - Edinburgh - London this year. Excellent product and I love them.
10:55 Oh look at that sly devil! Believe me, your camera man did this on purpose. Usually they avoid being reflected like the plague, but this one wants to be seen. Out of the shadows and into the light! Hi there, camera man, we see you and you are beautiful!
These factory tours and inside looks with your sponsors and other manufacturers are absolute gems. I must say the editing and filming of this video is extremely polished with lots of good nuances - so chapeau to the man holding the mammoth of camera and also to the team on buttons editing the footage for the youtubers. Thanks and a thumbs up.
Aaron Gwin doesn't use brakes, that's how he wins without a chain. More impressive was his win in the mud this year when he went faster than people in the dry
I hope you guys got a dozen of those laser engraved GCN brake calipers to give away as prizes!! :-) Awesome tour of a typical factory in Taiwan & a look at all the hard work guys & girls put in on the factory floor to make one small part on our bikes!! Big thumbs up!!
Fantastic vid, really like the factory tours. I have worked as tool designer for the last 30 years in aerospace (Boeing) so i can appreciate the tooling work that needs to be done to produce this product. Looks like Tektro has a-lot of tooling automation. You showed us the product design offices, did you see the tool design offices? Keep these factory tour coming, Thanks!!!!!!
I have TRP Spyres on my bike which are dual piston mechanical brakes. I had hydraulics before on my former cargo bike, but though these current mechanicals lack the modulation, they are easy to service and travel to other countries with less fuss. This new bike is a breakaway frame which makes splitting wire cables possible via a connector. I have been to Taiwan before and hope nothing bad happens there. I like the green fields of rice and if nothing else, Taiwan is famous for boba tea.
I pulled a brand new Trek (budget spec'd) hard tail out of the box and the two caliper halves on a Tektro Auriga were not bolted together properly. Quality control indeed, cost me some new pads, a quick bleed, and plenty of annoying labour.
Just ordered a pair of trp spyres for my road comuter a week ago. After almost faceplanting into a bonnet of a car at 40kmph. Hopefull that those brakes will be worth it
I'm building a classic road bike with 700c wheels so need longdrop calipers, looking at Tektro, had them on my first road bike, low end Carrera, they were actually fine, not any worse than my Ulegra 6600 calipers. I want to know the hierarchy, do I assume higher number is better? I'm wanting to buy either R539 or R737 spec looks similar but which is best. I need a 57mm drop do I go for the R559 which are 55 to 73mm drop and have them at the shortest end or the other 2 mentioned 47 to 59mm and have them at the longest end??
cool stuff. I have TRP Spyre mechanical disc breaks and I don't really like them. That is however more a general thing with mechanical disc brakes and not with the TRP specifically.
good for you. I might just be too stupid to set them up. tried alot though... never reached the braking power of a good rim brake. In future I'll stick to the rim brakes or go hydraulic.
My bike came with the weird hybrid of the two, TRP HYRDs, which are cable actuated hydraulic brakes, they are actually pretty damn good! The original pads that came with them were shocking but not a problem since. They feel much better than normal mech disc brakes
I thought Hope did some impressive machining... but after seeing this factory holy cow i am impressed!, This is why my local bike shop reckons even the cheapest Tektro brakes are dead freaking reliable, said he has worked a lot on sram and shimano but the tektro brakes seem to just keep on going with the least amount of issues of any brake, freaking bullet proof stuff.
Super Junak i havent used solidworks in a while, i know they did a bunch of changes . i mean, if your a company working in strenght and stress on design . i would probably just use inventor, theres a neat design analysis on inventor where you can setup static or dynamic loading on an object and it pretty much solve the best design based on you FOS. in solid works . its a bit tricky since you have to do different meshes snd do hickeys just to get in the same conclusion
Hi guys, Would you be able to do a video on which is faster over a commute down canal paths or bumpy sections...road bike, cyclocross/gravel, single speed and mountain bike. I can’t figure out which n+1 to look at next. Cheers
Matthew Boswell And in 1993 they recognized 'aluminum' as an acceptable variant. The British chemist, Humphry Davy, named it 'aluminum' and, strangely, the word was changed as a result of an anonymous reviewer of Davy's book who objected to the name and proposed 'aluminium'. 'Aluminum' is an accepted spelling of the word in the scientific community and elsewhere and is every bit as "correct" as 'aluminium'.
That place is a dream. Imagine the stuff you could make. To be fair I had a set of tektros and I was doubtful of quality and proformane. They never let me down once and out lived the bike with no services or anything. They just worked. Now I know why. 👍
Help!! I have a felt cx bike and it currently has 33mm tires on it. But because it’s getting cold and snowy. I was wondering if I should get some 40mm tires. And if so, would I need new rims as well? Thx for the help
When I see the tooling I must think back to my Job to Service these Tools in the Firma steinel. I learned many about that Tools and how they work and be to service
...did you know Tektro makes the most dangerous low cost Hydro Brakes in the market? Then, they make one of the best mech brakes in the world; TRP Spyke.....like wtf?
Working in german machine building I was shocked to see the lack of safety installations on most of those workplaces. When we include laser etching in an assembly line it has to be 100% eye safe.
The best scene, Si standing next to a laser with three warning signs and an operator behind a protective screen, says “I can’t get enough of laser etching”. Actually Si you got way too much laser etching. Do you still see the light when you blink Si?

Looking at a genuinely decent production process.. and for the price and decent power at what level you can afford.. there is nothing wrong with tektro brakes.. some high end bikes come out factory spec with them.. just to have people change to shimano or other.. all just to say I have this and that etc etc.. Nothing wrong with Tektro brakes.
Do you have Tektro-TRP brakes on your bike? Let us know in the comments below 👇
Global Cycling Network I had one on my cannondale cadd bike.. But Shimano brakes feel much more alive and responsive than tektro ones.

Never before, but after seeing this I’m considering trying a set out
Ofc, on my MTB
I use them and I did not know so much went into them. Thanks, Si, for the tour, amazing.
Thanks for visiting we hope GCN enjoys the custom engraved brakes!

Respect for Tektro-Trp nice to see a factory tour
Cheers!
Thank you Sjoerd!
Great. I will watch later, during my brake
As an engineer I love factory tours. Please keep them coming. Great job guys!
Factory planning engineers go through a factory the other way around, starting from the final product.
All of my bikes have Shimano brakes. GCN can easily do a documentary on how Shimano came to dominate the bicycle component industry!
Si-borg always looks so happy around the robots.
You guys do a really good job making videos. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Jeff, glad you like them!
These facility tour videos are better than "How it's made..." tours. Keep 'em coming!

More of these please 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it Jon!
Taiwan bike component manufacturing is leading edge man.
Love the factory tours
Great infomercial. TRP marketing dept is on point.
Can I get my brakes engraved with "$$$$$" so that everytime I apply the brakes, I remember how much it's costing me.
only if they're road disc brakes
That's for other vendors, and brakes made of carbon.
Great vid!
I hope there will be a discount on that fondled brake box when it gets to my LBS.
Another awesome video!!!
Cheers Bill!

Need to get those GCN brake Calipers on sale!
So where is that GCN etched? I want to see that on one of your bikes.
When I upgraded my MTB drivetrain to 1x XT, I kept the Tektro Auriga brakes as they were perfectly adequate for the riding I do.
Just ordered a pair of trp spyres for my road comuter a week ago. After almost faceplanting into a bonnet of a car at 40kmph. Hopefull that those brakes will be worth it
put some bbb pads in mine. chaep and good pads. the spyre is the second best mechanic discbrake out there

Hey, check out our ride on the cobbles - cx vs MTB - think you'll like that one!
I can help but feel the lady running the laser etching machine was not as thrilled as Si about watching it burning in the GCN logo.
I guess half of the people in the factory didn't understand a word of what Si was talking about.
She focuses on work because she wants to provide people with good products. Do you understand? ?
I like how Si says "aluminium", correctly.
If he said "aluminum" that would also be correct.
No!
YES!
No, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) officially standardised on aluminium in 1990

Simon, why didn't you interview anyone at the company?
When I see the tooling I must think back to my Job to Service these Tools in the Firma steinel. I learned many about that Tools and how they work and be to service
para hacer justa la confiabilidad del video, seria interesante una visita a hope, o shimano en alguna fabrica de frenos
How much coffee had Simon had before making this video as he is buzzing in it?
trp spyre - got them on my Giant Road e-2.
10:19 The girl in the background didn't look too happy at being filmed :D
The way he says Taiwan is hilarious.

He is so cool :)
I wish you could have asked the engineers for their opinion on the campagnolo delta brakes.
I'm putting Hopes on my next bike. Take that, Asia. But still, 160 cnc machines is pretty awesome.
I'm building a project bike with a Gary Fisher Mamba mountain bike and will be installing SRAM Level hydraulic disc brakes on it.

I have mechanical TRP disc brakes on winter bike, hopefully they don't make them anymore. To say they were dangerous would be an understatement!
you really need to put a stop to all this quality control (pun alert)
quadiems are good, but can be tricky to bleed. full metal pads

do you know than most tektro products are not available in Greece i was able to find only 20 ,,,

Plus..thats my stand
Video was too short. Or maybe should have been several parts. We want MOAR.
In your discussion of the two brands and their connection, what if you pointed out that TRP stands for "Tektro Racing Products"????
I think Simon's got his highs and lows confused, ey 6:32
Yeah, totally mixed up with precision. Tolerance should be tight though. Like Si's jeans.
