TRP Trail EVO Brake Review | Better Than SRAM Code R?

- The TRP Trail EVO brakes are one of the best mid-tier brakes on the market and in this review I compare them to the SRAM Code R brakes that I've been riding for the past couple of years. TRP has really grown in popularity with their powerful downhill brakes, the DHR EVOs, but not many mountain bikers are discussing the Trail EVO brakes. I've been riding them on my Commencal Meta for a few months now and decided I would give a review. The Trail EVOs have impressed me, but they required some different brake pads to get set up well. Check out the Trail EVOs and the MTX pads I use below:

My rear brake squeals like mad! It won't lock up either. Going to try a full bleed I guess! Also intend to try new pads as well! Front feels nice but I can't push it when the rears don't work!
I don't see trail evo as an option when trying to order these pads.
Good information. Had a brake job done last month on the rig and purchased this pair to replace the old rickity. My seasonal arthritis kicked in so I contacted my contact out in pontack Ohio come for the BJ. Was a terrible process trying to make these brakes fit on a car and they didn’t work one bit on my Acura TSX. Keep in mind a set only comes with two so be order to order two packs. Also keep in mind that these brakes are for cars and are for bikes.
You need some milk.
As long as your brakes keep braking and don't start breaking
Sounds good boss🫡
I have the Code R’s but put MTX pads on. The MTX pads themselves give SRAM brakes more modulation. Had a trail bike with G2’s and MTX made me go from disliking SRAM brakes to liking them. Still curious if I’d like TRP better and get away from the dot fluid as you did.
Oh wow that’s good to know. Which MTX pads did you go with for the Codes and G2s?
in theory on the MTX site they are different codes but when you get the package they are the same pads. Ran reds on the trail bike and got Golds for the e-bike that came with had Code R’s. Also your brakes are really quiet in the wet with the MTX pads!
I wonder how does it compare with the Slate Evo. do you have any idea?
I have not tried the Slate Evos unfortunately!
i have the CODE RSC love them. definitely mandatory to have good brakes even if u aren't doing DH riding
I would like to try out the RSC since people seem to say they are a noticeable step up from the Rs. Never going back to two pistons brakes tho😵💫
But I thought the Rs are like the RSCs beside the lever (more ejustment and made out of carbon?)
I like Shimano but I’m really not picky. (Solid review BTW)
Thanks, I appreciate that! I should give Shimano a try on my personal bike someday
Have the exact same issue with the front brake, probably time for new pads
Hmm what rotors and pads are you running? And were they used on another bike before?
@@VentureMTB 2.3 mm rotors, bought at the same time as the pads, maybe 5 months old now?
How did your code R's become unserviceable?
The pistons were getting stuck unevenly and the lever blades were super spongey. Ik the levers can be fixed, I did it before, but I couldn’t fix the pistons so I just gave up.
100% better then sram codes.
💯😎
Anythings better than sram brakes lmao
