Rescuing a NASTY Warhammer Model, SO SATISFYING | The Baby Diaries Vol.8

- This week I decided to take a little break on the Deathguard army and do a quick little rescue. The model I found was a nasty lookin warhammer model I got for $13 off of ebay. The paint is THICK! Which really makes this rescue very very satisfying to watch. The best part, is that the model ends up being the perfect mini to actually fit into the Deathguard army! I promise I wasn't planning that or expecting it! The last time I showed this particular model on camera, which was a few weeks ago, a keen viewer pointed out that this model is in fact a warhammer model from the blackstone fortress game. All in all, a mini rescues, a little more work on the DG army and and overall good week in the hobby. Well you just made my life easy on what to do with my extra Chaos Lord. Papa Nurgle shall welcome him into his family. Very cool find and showing at the end where in the codex.
I was surprised at how well he fit! I think the tubes really give him a super Nurgle vibe, really cool model :)

For turbo dork color shifts, if you do a gloss varnish over the area and then do about 5 thin coats through the airbrush it makes a huge difference.
That "plasma glow" looks like the poor pistol should have exploded 5 mins ago, and is just barely holding together because of old habit!

That green turned out excellent, I love turbo dork, I have painted all my ork vehicles in their paints and they look excellent.
For stripping in a properly temperature controled USC, try putting the model in a seal container of meths and heat to 45°C.

At first it can be tough to get the time in, but it gets easier and you get used to having them around. My daughter is just about 1 year old right now and I she takes a few long naps a day! Perfect to take a break and paint some minis :)

When you pulled out that cleaner I thought it was a chip (uk thick fries) fryer - it's so big you could probably fit a whole landraider in - FULL SIZE!! always enjoyable - keep rescuing!

I don't know about favorite (not the biggest fan of Death Guard, its a green thing...lol) but man, most improved for sure. What a difference. I don't want to badmouth anyone, but wow... There's thinner black on the interstate. Really dig the detail on the flesh bits. Took me a long time to slow it down and start to do more with my flesh tones. Lol...more I think about it, you may just be winning me over here lmao. That's one bad looking dude.
I get speed is the reason for the glow effect this way but it just looks wrong. Its making its way to places that require the breaking of reality to do it. Still I really like the candied green.
Hi Casey, I have purchased some Chaos marines and after 2 weeks of sitting in LA Totally awesome, I've noticed there must be at least 4 different layers of paint as the minis have changed hands amongst the hobby group and each person resprayed it again. It's not really lifting the paint after 2 weeks of soaking, even after a few cycles of the ultrasonic and a toothbrush session. Have you ever encountered paint that just won't come off?
Nice, we had the same ultrasonic bath at my old workplace. It's good stuff, we did air emission testing so something glassware would return caked in filth and sooth. One time we suffered a malfunction and our filters caught fire. Bosses were ready to declare that rig total loss because of how full of ass the glassware was. Good thing it was a slow week, and after meticulous scrubbig, and few cycles in the bath at triple the usual detergent dose, they came out clean. Now that use mention that it didn't clean some models as well... I think ours had a sweet spot where the vibrations are stronger and clean better. Always thought it was a quirk of our particliar bath.
I used to use chemicals to strip metal but then they got banned. Recently started stripping plastics with IPA & getting good results. Since leaning that I bought about 200 Orks though because they look cheap now.

I bought a bunch of random deffkoptas on trolltrader and stripped them in ISO with a toothbrush.
I don’t know what kind of paint they used on the one kopta but the alcohol only bleached it slightly 🤷♂️ I’m just gonna prime over it I think

Casey, have you seen the hobby airbrush media blasters? So long as you use a really soft rubber, foam etc media it should work great for stripping the paint off without damaging the plastic. Also you should do a video sometime of buying some non-GW minis and bringing them into 40k showing that you don't have to use their minis to make cool stuff. I got all depressed today.. all our local Walmarts stopped carrying models and model supplies. Though I do have like 13 models I've never finished sitting in my room.. mostly due to not having the right paints for them. (I need to order those damn chromate and flat yellow/insignia red paints already)

Another great project there Casey, I always enjoy seeing the way you do things but I have to say sometimes your advice leaves something to be desired. I tried pushing my face to a new place... she wasn't impressed 😏

It is amazing what just the littlest touches on a model can do to great effect. That model was fairly standard for chaos, with just those tubes to show any sort of Nurgle influence. Yet once they were painted I found them more unnerving than most of the Deathguard stuff! Tubes make me think of parasites instead of normal decay/corruption etc. That could be cool theming for your chaos lord if you do decide to use him. All hail the Parasitic Lord! Really great work, keep it up!
Do you have a video on how to use the ultrasonic cleaner? I bought one and nothing happened to the mini at all .... so I am kind of curious as you seem to be really satisfied with it.

great work here. you give me ideas for painting up the chaos lord in blackstone fortress since i am permanently on the fence with regard to getting blackstone fortress (though sheer cost is the thing that keeps putting me off getting it
in the sonic cleaner what liquid is it? Also this is a great channel really top content, for an ex miniture modeller its awesoe to see and remember when i used to do this i soaked them in detol to remove paint!

Could you talk more about doing the plasma glow you did there with the airbrush?
ca. 3:44 : Doesn't Colorshift have two Problems? First, that it works only on a glossy surface and secondly, that you can't varnish a colorshiftet surface? Or are the colors you use differently to Vallejo or GSW? (Or aren't you varnishing your miniatures at all?)

Technically that's a thunder hammer, but I do the same thing with my Deathwatch Vanguard Vets, because they don't get thunder hammers in Kill Team for some reason.
They definitely do get thunder hammers, both standard and heavy.
@@ZX-ou5op I haven't played killteam in a while. it was Mauls I had to use as Thunder Hammers.
@@Nikolaijuno Ah yeah, I do believe it was true that they couldn't take thunder hammers prior to the Pariah Nexus "updates." IIRC, Vanguard Vets were also forced to take jump packs, but that's no longer the case - Deathwatch in general now has access to every unit and weapon option that regular Astartes do, except for Tactical Marines and Scouts, and a lot of weapon profiles were buffed. Nice if you play Space Marines, but aside from them and Necrons, no other faction really got anything.

I'm pretty certain that guy is black legion not death guard.
The model is Obsideus Mallex from Blackstone Fortress, he is being sold individually as a generic Chaos Lord. It isnt confirmed if his warband, the Servants of the Abyss, are Black Legion but from the armor they all used and that they were under Abaddon at the fall of Cadia its a fair assumption the original character was Black Legion at one point.
Why are't you paint eyes? I know this is not easy and most people will not see it on a table, but on a detailed view it will be cool

man so tired of every chaos army/painter being a deathguard video, where are the alpha legions, the Khorne zerkers or even god forbid Thousand sons, every paint video is Deathguard when its chaos, christ.
