  • This video shows the process of installing one of our pre-wired Redarc dual battery kits in an under bonnet dual battery setup. This video is done on a Hilux but all of the Toyota range is quite similar. Check out how easy it is to install in under 15mins.

    Hi mate
    Is that particular bracket available to purchase for a 2013 Hilux. ( bracket only) ?
    as I already have the charger and that bracket seems to be more user friendly then the bracket redarc sell on their website
    Cheers !

    Hey mate, I would like to order your settup for my new Fortuner but I am not sure about the alternator/blue wiring as well as the mounting bracket. Can you advise? Fortuner 2021 model

    • @AussieDrifterTouring
      @AussieDrifterTouring  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi peter. you have a temperature compensating alternator on the Fortuner so there is no need to connect the blue wire up. As for the bracket we have confirmed that it fits the new 2021 Hilux and the Fortuner should be the same front end as the Hilux like they have always been so that should be no problem.

    Easy setup. Where can I get one of those mounting brackets for 120 Prado? Did you have to wire in the Blue ignition wire? if so where did you connect to? Also does it matter what type of fuse's you use?

    • @AussieDrifterTouring
      @AussieDrifterTouring  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      cduxson hey mate the bracket is “longranger” brand but I’m not sure if they do one for the 120 prado, you might have to give them a call. As for the blue wire you don’t need to connect it on the prado as it runs a temperature compensating alternator and not a variable voltage (smart alternator).

    • @AussieDrifterTouring
      @AussieDrifterTouring  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      cduxson sorry forgot to mention the fuses. Yer you should use midi fuses and for the 25amp charger a 40amp fuse is recommended.

  • @bsmith2955
    @bsmith2955 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Kurt, you mentioned in a previous comment that the prado doesn't require the blue ignition wire, is that for the 120 or the 150 series? Cheers

    • @AussieDrifterTouring
      @AussieDrifterTouring  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      B Smith hi mate. That is the case for both 120 and 150 series. At this point Toyota run a temperature compensating alternator not a smart alternator or variable voltage alternator so you don’t need to hook up the ignition wire mate.

    Looks like there's a Anderson plug connector..if correct so can add a fridge?

    • @AussieDrifterTouring
      @AussieDrifterTouring  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul G hey mate, yer there is an Anderson plug in the kit but it’s so that you add a solar panel. Simply plug a solar panel
      Or blanket into the solar panel and the redarc charger becomes a solar controller. Once the dual battery kit is in then any thing you wire to the aux battery such as fridge ect will run from the aux battery and not me able to flatten the start battery.

    A lot of excess cable for a “custom to vehicle” kit

    • @AussieDrifterTouring
      @AussieDrifterTouring  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Blake. We find different people route it different ways and some have said its tight so we have put extra because most people don’t mind extra but they certainly mind not enough😜. Also some people like to mount the fuse holder on the side panel and there is enough length to still reach the battery if they choice to do that, others just cable tie it to the hold down clamp. Check out the photos of the complete instal all cable ties up on our website 👍.

      So you just sandwich the bcdc on top of the alternator leads, you dont need to put the leads to the bcdc then bcdc to battery? How does it charge this way?

    • @AussieDrifterTouring
      @AussieDrifterTouring  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      zom zom no mate that’s why we use redarc. They can handle the elements and it is a redarc recommend location. Because the charger derates at 50c and shuts down completely at 80c so it needs good air flow to keep it cool. You can imagine how quick it would get to those temperatures under the bonnet 🥵.
