    Makes life difficult using the big impact drill instead of using 2 x spanners!
    Seems to be some kind of obsession with a lot of installers using power tools where spanner/socket would suffice and reduce the risk of damage or stripping bolts. Not always quicker, either.

      couldnt disagree with you more. i do electrical work every day and if i didnt use power tools and used spanners and hand tools for every job it would not only take a lot more time but increase the chances of getting carpel tunnel syndrome later on in life, think about it.

      @@seanmac8339 I was referring to working on cars where a bolt could be easily stripped.

    To neaten the install, include 25-30cm of pinchweld so you can hide the dodgy plastic cutting...

      Good tip mate. 👍. That is an optional part of the install and not necessary. Many people don’t worry about making the cutout at all.

    Looks like a good bit of kit. Has anyone had any issue with engine temp running a bit higher? It looks like the bracket and charger are covering a good portion of the radiator.

      no mate, that is REDARC's recommended installation location to keep the charger cool and the unit is water and dust proof so you can still do you creek crossings and hit the outback dust

      Exactly my thought too. Aren’t we restricting are flow to the radiator? Just asking.

    Good video thanks for sharing.
    I noticed you didn’t connect the blue trigger ignition wire
    I would have thought this would have been needed for the 2.8l
    Does it not have a smart alternator?

    • @AussieDrifterTouring
      @AussieDrifterTouring  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Glad you like the video mate. You don’t need the blue wire on the Prado, it’s only required for variable voltage alternators. On the Prado you have what’s called a temperature compensating alternator. With this type of alternator the voltage is always high enough to keep the charger going so it’s not required.

      Thanks for the response
      I take it this would be the same with the current 2.8l Fortuner

    Great video guys. For those wanting to run a Lithium deep cycle option in the boot area of the Prado, have you got a DIY kit that suits this type of application?

    • @AussieDrifterTouring
      @AussieDrifterTouring  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi mate, yer this kit would work well for that setup www.aussiedriftertouring.com.au/shop/redarc-universal-kit we can customise cable lengths to if needed

    @aussiedriftertouring This is a great video thanks. I understand the solar panel or solar blanket plugs in via the anderson plug, but how would you connect a 12volt fridge - does this go straight into the anderson plug? or once you plug the fridge into the cars inbuilt 12 volt socket, does it run off the battery system just installed?

      This video shows the Battery Charger kit install. So that takes care of all the battery management then the next part of the kit is installing the accessory harness to power up your accessories. Here is a link to that video. th-cam.com/video/48eAW7PLqs4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=XSgNYC3vSz93qo0x.
      To check out what’s involved with the full kit here is a link to the product on our website and all the videos associated. www.aussiedriftertouring.com.au/shop/toyota-150prado-kit

    I am looking for a fire/heat proof box that will fit in there and then use it as a secret compartment as there is no such space inside the car

    Great Video, very helpful..
    does the redarc have a ignition wire that needs to be hooked up to ignition, or is it all plug and play.
    thanks.

    • @AussieDrifterTouring
      @AussieDrifterTouring  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dale, then redarc does have an ignition wire but its only required on variable voltage alternator cars so the prado kit doesn't require it.

    Great install video. However, the radiator is there to cool the engine. If you cover a big part of it with a charger, this is not a smart idea. Redarc should definitely come up with a better location.

      That is the only place the prado bracket is designed to go but we can suply the kit with the redarc universal bracket that you could mount else were.

    does it usually draw power from the main battery when i’m at camp using solar?

      no Andy it only draws from the main battery when the vehicle light is on, on the redarc screen.
